that’s it; inflated numbers make players to be overrated, and vice versa wich it’s a pitty, because players that really deserve recognition, either they’re being disrespected or not being valued the way they should..

i understand we live in a material world where quantity is more than quality, and the NBA is a perfect reflection of that statement.

i understand it’s all about money and therefore you need good marketing to sell your products well, but it’s getting to a point that it is almost shameful, especially for the people we love the game of basketball..

why i say all this? because i’m getting tired of all that, tired of reading things like demarcus cousins is the best center in the league, tired of gazing at how pau gasol has to make the all-star after butler’s injury or at how dirk nowitzky is not even mentioned to make part of that game while players like cousins or carmelo anthony make the list just because of their inflated numbers… and going even further, tired at watching kobe as a starter in the all-star getting the love that duncan or dirk won’t get when they retire..

because somehow, kobe, even though he’s a leyend of this game, he’s had inflated numbers, personally and collectively..i’ve enjoyed the game thanks to kobe and he’s been one of the most "fun to watch" players in history, but when it comes to recognition, i think he gets too much..to the point of being considered by many a top 5 in the all time list or many times ahead of players like duncan or o’neil, between others..

the truth is that o’neil was the true star and most impacful player on that team, and the reason why they won 3 rings in a row..and if it wasn’t for kobe’s ego it could have been many more..the proof is o’neil still won another ring in miami despite being fat and out of shape while kobe didn’t make the playoffs or got beat in 1st round until pau gasol arrived and took that same year the lakers to the finals..it’s amazing how less love pau gets for those 2 rings..the truth is pau was the best interior player in the league in that 3 years strech..again and like before with o’neil, since pau left kobe hasn’t made the playoffs while pau is still shutting mouths with 2 all-stars in 2 years with the bulls despite his age..

the truth is kobe could have never won a ring the way duncan or dirk did..but still these 2 don’t get enough credit, especially dirk..(ask kareem)

again, and going back to cousins..is kevin love the best PF in the league? i don’t think so..well he’s the perfect example of what i’m saying..2 years ago he was averaging 26pts/12.5rb/4.4ast/2.5 3p..not bad..now, playing along a true star and for a contender team, you can see the reality: he’s not a franchise player but even more, he’s not even making the all-star game..

i’m sorry to say, but demarcus cousins is another kevin love type of player..so overrated because of his stats in a bad team without a true star-leader..it’s true that we’ve had a decade without great centers compared to other decades, but still, players like the gasol brothers,al horford, drummond now and even duncan or howard when healthy are way better players than demarcus..even centers like gobert, deandre or whiteside are showing they impact the game(in a good way) more than he does..karl towns will also be better than him next year, if he isn’t already..

it’s disgusting how some people make these kind of comments instead of posting about basketball, just to get some points in their account.. but i have a suspicion that you have no talent to do better than that..

you’re the perfect reflection of what i was trying to explain above, about inflated numbers..so congratulations..you’ve just made the kevin love list..

I’ll give you +1, since you’re somewhat of a triple threat.

        Attacks with Bold

        Defends with Italics

Closes the game with a themed Kevin Love Diss.

Just out of curiousity…why does the word "suspicion" attract both bold AND italics fonts.

kobe couldn’t win a title like Duncan or dirk? Care to elaborate?

To try and belittle kobe’s significance in those 3 rings from 2000-2002 is silly. Those titles were won in the western finals where the lakers played their toughest competition each year. In game 7 of the 2000 western finals vs the blazers, kobe put up 25..11…7 while shaq got 18 and 9. In the 2001 western finals vs duncans spurs, kobe averaged 33 points 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the entire series on 52%fg shooting and scored double digits every 4th quarter of that series. In game 7 of the 2002 western finals vs sacramento, kobe merely put up 30…11…7 on the biggest stage. The fact is they don’t win those rings without BOTH Kobe and Shaq.

If you wanted to make a thread about meaningless stats, you probably shouldn’t have decided to base it around a guy who went to the finals 7 times and won 5 rings.

when i say kobe couldn’t win a title ala duncan or dirk, i mean that he couldn’t carry a team without playing next to another top player..

duncan has played with parker and ginobili..both have been great players, actually 2 of the best international players of all time, but none of them were considered top players in their position at any stage of their careers..parker has had jason kidd, steve nash, chris paul, deron williams, derrick rose,westbrook,curry,etc.. ahead of him and manu was behind kobe, wade, mcgrady, carter, ray allen,iverson,harden,etc..

while dirk, the year they won the ring he played next to a 37 year old jason kidd, caron butler, tyson chandler and old versions of jason terry, shawn marion…

in the other hand kobe played with shaq, whom during those 1st 3 rings he was the most dominant player in the planet, and in the other 2 rings he played with pau, whom during that strech between 2008-2011 he was a top 3 interior player with duncan and dirk..then you had howard, stoudamire and garnett 1 or 2 steps below..and you could actually argue that gasol was the best of them all during 2009-2010..

kobe couldn’t carry a team by himself playing along a core of good players like duncan or dirk did or like jordan did or like curry is doing now.. or even like lebron almost did carrying very bad teams in cleveland to the finals..kobe couldn’t do what lebron did in cleveland..actually he could not pass the 1st round..

kobe couldn’t make players around him better, he could not elevate their games and turn a good player into an all-star.. jordan did elevate pippen’s game and turned him into a top player in the league..the same way today, curry is elevating thompson and green’s game making them all-stars and top players in their position..

i’m not trying ti diminish what kobe did during those 3 first rings, but it’s easier to score the ball when shaq is attracting defences and getting doubled all the time.. if you give that kind of advantage to a player with the talent like kobe..then he kills you..

but the thing is that it’s a fact that after shaq left the lakers, kobe didn’t even make the playoffs the 1st year and couldn’t pass the 1st round for 3 years until pau arrived and suddently went to the finals..

same thing happened to wade..right after shaq left he didn’t even make the playoffs and couldn’t pass the 1st round for 3 years until lebron arrived..

and same thing happened to penny hardaway…

If you’re saying that Timmy and Dirk didn’t have anybody you’re crazy. Tim had one of the best centers ever in David Robinson and after that had ginobli, Parker, and eventually Leonard. Dirk had Marion, Kidd, and Tyson Chandler

I don’t love Kobe, but saying he is over-rated because he needed help to win a title doesn’t make sense. Even Jordan couldn’t win without Pippen.

The closest anyone has come to winning single handed was Walton in ’77. But even he had Maurice Lucas.

They were a huge team & Lucas & Walton were absolute Beasts… but they also had Lionel Hollins, Johnny Davis, Larry Steele, Bob Gross & others…. That was a very deep team, w/ good solid NBA players…..

Those 2000 – 2002 Lakers were obviously Shaq’s Lakers – he was the most dominant player in the NBA back then…. but Kobe was growing from a solid All Star to a Super Star during that time….. & the combo of Kobe AND Shaq is what made those Lakers So Dominant….. To knock Kobe b/c they were killing teams in the Finals isn’t fair & more importantly it’s just not accurate….. Kobe was instrumental for those Lakers ….. & the post above outlining what a War the Western Conference Finals were during those years is entirely accurate……

i’ve just read the espn all-time nba rank and it seems they have the same line of argumentation than mine about kobe..

i see he’s ranked at nº 12.. behind players like lebron, chamberlain, bird, duncan,o’neal, olajuwon and oscar robertson despite having won more rings and having scored a lot more points than all of them..

that’s exactly what i was trying to expose..

kobe has been great, one of the best ever but there’s no way he is a top 10 player in that list, and much less a top 5 as media tried to sell for some time, getting to a point where they even debated the possibility of him being better than jordan…

so when i said that kobe’s career had been inflated it’s not that i was comparing him to kevin love..come on kobe is a leyend..but i was trying to say that even with those 5 title and all those points scored, he is not a top 5-10 player..

i feel pretty comfortable though with his place in that espn list.

Espn hates Kobe because he said their analists were idiots a couple of years ago. That’s when they put him as the 40th best player in the game. Since then they’ve been merciless with the guy. They shut up a bit this year, cause it’s his farwell tour.

I’d pick Kobe over Lebron any day of the week.
