TravelinTravParticipantI don’t understand what’s so demanding about playing basketball. I’ve played all day multiple times a week outdoors. ( which is harder on your knees) Sure I got tired but nothing a quick rest and water couldn’t fix. Give a few million/year and I be a modern day Mad Dawg. I can’t dunk so maybe that’s it.

Hype MachineIf NBA players think that their job is physically demanding….they need a taste of the real world.
And Im not talking about cushy journalist jobs where ESPN writers sit at a desk and email articles to their editor.
Im talking about 95% of the worlds population who bust their freakin balls just to rub a few pennys together. Working 2 jobs, never taking a day off…putting in OT just to pay the bills. These guys can retire for life on their rookie contracts alone. Give me a break…they’re athletes in the prime of their life living a dream. Some days I dont feel like going into work either….too bad!
Youll never get an ounce of sympathy from me regarding how gruelling their schedule is. If they dont like it….quit.

doubledribblerParticipantStop being so self-righteous. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows that pro sports are nothing like anything else in the "real world." These guys get paid millions and the people they are employed by make millions more from doing something that in general doesn’t contribute much to society. There are all kinds of jobs out there. Some cake. Some hard. I just read an article a few hours ago about a guy that literally did not do his job for 6 years and he was getting paid. The city I live in has a huge hole in it because some developers promised something they couldn’t deliver, but their pockets are lined. Not everyone out there is grinding, but I guarantee the kids making your shoes, shirts, and people being paid pennies to make your cell phones would like for you to shut the hell up because they would take your grind over theirs. Afterall, you have enough time and security to be able to randomly get on a sports website. That is a luxury for many.
If you actually read the article what is being said makes sense. It’s not about sympathy. It’s about looking at the game in a different way. Stop trying to pretend like you can get the local guys from your church league or YMCA out there and think that people are going to keep watching. Steph Curry’s misses are going to be more entertaining than the shots they make. The schedule is affecting the quality of the game and you’re dealing with bigger than average humans. Not only that but these guys are moving a lot with the more intricate defensive schemes. This isn’t like when Mark Jackson or Charles Barkley would back you down for 23 seconds. At some point you want as many of your stars to stay as healthy as possible. Trimming down or better spacing out the games, would improve the quality, which personally I prefer over quantity and that’s the only way it is going to happen because I don’t see contraction happening.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantI think you guys are missing the point. Obviously these players know what they are signing up for when they become professional basketball players. They earn more money in one week than most people earn in a year. The money isn’t what’s being questioned though. It’s that the NBA could change their schedule to have games more spaced out or could decrease the number of games and as a result would not only having healthier and fresher players but would also be putting a better product out there for its viewers. As a former college runner, I know the demands that high level training puts on the body. Running and basketball aren’t the same in terms of impact that it has on the body but hard exercise takes time to recover from regardless of the sport. When these guys are at best getting a few hours of sleep on their flight to their next game, their body is not recovering like it should be. This leads to inefficient movement/overall fatigue which also leads to overuse injuries such as stress fractures and torn ligaments. I’m no expert on how the human body works, but I do know this. You can only push someone so hard before they break.
