With the signing of J.R. Smith, Lin-Sanity, Baron Davis, and nice play occasionally by Landry Fields, does this make Iman Shumpert expendable to an extent, as far as trading?

I think no. I think Shumpert is a promising rookie and can help the Knicks a lot not only now but in the future. Baron Davis is getting old and J.R Smith is so up and down it’s ridiculous so I think he stays.

I don’t think he’s expendable at all. However, with the Knick’s backcourt the way it is now, he’s going to be the odd man out in the rotation.

He’s one of there best if not there best perimeter defender and us a bundle of energy.
JR can play some D but it’s in spurts and unreliable.
I remember watching the game where Lin hit the game winner and Iman was suffocating an extremely hot Calderon .
I know he’s no Kobe but his defense and hustle is the reason the Knicks came back and had a chance to win that game.
All in all Knicks need all the defenders they can get and should keep Shumpert.

Why would they trade him, he’s the best defender they have on the perimeter.

What are the chances J.R. Smith and Baron Davis are both back next yr.

What are the Knicks trading Shumpert for when they have a decent bench once Harrelson comes back.

iman shumpert will be such a good player, i wouldn’t trade him for anything they would offer the knoicks at this time. this dude played defense against nowitski, not like in one play either, he got matched up against him. i also see so much room for improvement, specially his off the dribble game. I really like iman shumpert, and enjoy watch him

Erm..how many of these have shown to be good defenders from when they 1st entered the league?

I think their roster is great as it is. Shumpert has so much potential on both ends that they haven’t seen out of anyone for years imo

I wouldn’t put it past the Knicks trading anyone though.

I think he is expendable. I think he could be dealt for a young backup PG. He might not, but there is news he could be dealt to Houston for Goran Dragic. And that’s honestly not a bad deal.

I don’t think the Knicks will trade him, but the Goran argument above is a possibility. First, let’s accept that neither Bibby or this year’s Tony Douglas should be allowed to play in professional basketball games anymore. Then, suppose Baron Davis also can’t get it together. That is a distinct possibility. Do you just continue to play Lin 40 minutes a night? Shumpert is doing fine for a rookie and for a current draft pick. But the Knicks need to win now. Amare’s knees are going. They might be gone, but we certainly don’t have a three year window with this guy. Melo is in his prime and might even be slightly on the downside. If Baron Davis implodes and the Knicks need a backup point guard, Shumpert is valuable enough to get one. Besides he is a two guard and currently number three on the depth chart behind Landry and Smith. It wouldn’t be the first time a promissing rookie had to be traded by a contender who needed a piece right now.

But if Baron can regain his form from last year and both he and Lin can stay healthy, then I don’t see the need to make a trade.

He’s the Knick best perimeter defender and in a point-guard heavy league he is too valuble to their future.
