I think it is awesome that these guys identified that they had a problem and are taking some responsibility for this happening. Now, it wasn’t much their fault. As far as Richardson and Leonard go, they didn’t play as much as some other guys, and in my opinion they didn’t have any major issues. It’s good to see these guys identifying the issues they had and attempting to resolve them. McCamey was a good player, but he was the main reason Illinois had its problems. He was a very selfish player, as all he wanted to do was run the offense himself, and not listen to any of the coaches. He wanted to run his own plays, and let the coaches sit back and watch. Having Jereme Richmond last year did not help at all, as he was just a distraction. These guys were the main reason Illinois started slumping, not Leonard, Richardson, or Paul. I myself am hoping that Illinois has good chemistry this year, because they have lacked that in the past. Without a true leader on that roster, I look for a lot of unselfish play and hopefully they will get along with the coaches better. What’s your guys’ take on this situation?

hiphopismylifeParticipantYeah I agree. There’s no excuse for this team consistently underachieving considering the level Bruce Weber has been recruiting at. Going into last season I really thought they were one of the more complete teams nationally and had a real chance to make a deep tourney run. They’ve shown flashes but just can’t seem to put it together.
I look for Brandon Paul and/or D.J Richardson to really explode and take a leap forward this season. They’re both athletic, competitive wings and have the tools to be good leaders.
Meyers Leonard has to step it up.
