ForTheWinParticipantWith the lockout now at one month I will admit that I have no clue what is going on or why the players have been locked out. I’ve tried my best to understand the situation but It confuses me in the end. Could someone please post why players have been locked out, where they are in the lockout process, and what the topics under discussion in the new deal. It would be greatly appreciated.

OhCanada-ParticipantIll explain it as simple as possible.
Owners are getting greedy, players are standing up for themselves, sooner or later the players will settle for whatever little bit the owners give them because the owners are so rich they can stand to holdout alot longer then the players so the players have no choice but to give up sooner or later. Especially veterans at the end of their careers do not want to be out of action too long. The players will give in but you should pretty much have the mindset that this year will be called off.

hiphopismylifeParticipantWell according to a report 22 out of 30 teams are losing money. Some franchises are on the verge of folding and this is forcing the owners to try and tighten things up, which the players obviously won’t take kindly to.
The players made their initial proposal which would see them cut salaries by a total of $500 million over the next 5 years. David Stern responded by saying that was better than previous proposals, but they were still very far apart.
There is also an issue of the owners trying to take away guaranteed contracts.

vertjumpzParticipantIt’s all about the money man. Both sides are to blame…and it’s crazy that you can make millions as a backup player sitting on a bench most of the year.
