thetruthParticipantto compete with the nba. what would be the leagues name, how many teams would you start off with and in what cities, what would be the rules , how many games in the season, the rosters limit , do you think espn or tnt would broadcast it. and oh yeah if you had to choose one player thats not in the nba to be your league’s lebron who would it be.

JoeWolf1I just bring back the old ABA teams, and players, they’d all be in their 50’s and 60’s, but I bet Dr. J can still ball. I know this is purely hypothetical, but In reality, no league could compete with the NBA. Professional football has tried for years to rival the NFL and not since the 80’s have they had any success. There was a USBL team close to where I lived growing up, and I’d go watch their games for like 8 bucks a ticket when I didn’t have anything going on, but to rival the NBA and play on major networks in prime time, isn’t going to happen. If I had the money to start my own league, i’d be in the front row of a Bulls game watching the NBA.

kong47272ParticipantWell I agree with Joe Wolf that another league wouldn’t have much of a chance to stand up to the NBA, but it doesn’t make it interesting to think about.
I guess I’d call it the NABA – North American Basketball Association
I’d start with 10 teams, avoiding NBA cities as I don’t think we could compete head to head, some would say not being in LA or NY would be a major set back, but I think the league would get over shadowed anyway.
East:
Louisville
St. Louis
Baltimore
Montreal
PittsburghWest:
Seattle
Las Vegas
Vancouver
Mexico City
San DiegoRules changes from the NBA
*two 24 min halves
*shots beyond the half court line are worth 4 points (we need at least one gimmick to set ourselves apart) Also I like to see it when defenses pick players up farther up the court.
*The Basketballs will be colored like the old ABA ball, but each team can design the ball for their home games after their own color scheme
*5 fouls and your out of the game
(I’d strongly consider territorial draft picks like the ABA did to attempt to steal players from the NBA, however I don’t think it would be that effective now days)
30 games in the season (you play all conference opponents 5 times, non conference 2 times)
Top 2 teams from each conference make the playoffs
I think ESPN would cover our highlights but no games, we would try to work something out with Spike TV or a lesser cable station to start out.
We would also make it so you can play straight out of high school, in attempt to steal talent from the nba, even if we only get them for one year before they jump to the NBA we will get publicity, and revenue from those guys. Its the leagues best chance to stay relevant. If you graduate high school early you can jump straight to the NABA.
So our stars would probably be prep kids who don’t have the grades to go to college, atleast this way they don’t have to cheat (like Rose). Also they can make money right away instead of being a one and done in the college ranks.
We’d also go after Iverson since he isn’t signed yet, that would give the league a star right off the bat, and some team would build around him just like he wants.

jeff416ParticipantI like your idea kong47272
Im not sure what I would name it so I guess it would be something like NABL- North America Basketball League
I would have 20 teams and I would include some NBA cities but mainly cities without NBA teams
EAST

Baltimore
Lexington
Chicago
San Juan
Pittsburgh
Cincinnati
St. Louis
Kansas City
TorontoWest
Vancouver
Seattle
Las Vegas
Los Angeles
San Diego
Mexico City
Tulsa
Anchorage
Honolulu
DallasRule Changes from NBA
25 minute halfs
50 games season
players would be able to go straight from high school
It would brodcast on the NABL channel and whoever would put it on there network
Half court shot would count for 4 points
There would be less foul calls than in the NBA
We would have a Allstar game and have 3pt competition and dunk contest but I would add a 4 player 1 on 1 tournament
We would go after NBA free agents like Iverson, Lebron, Wade, etc…
The draft would be the worst team gets the first pick champions get last pick like the NFL
There would be 8 playoff teams 4 from the East 4 from the West

Buffalo
Nashville
Albany
Honolulu
Boise
AlbuquerqueInt. League

OttawaI picked cities that didnt have an NBA team.
– 10 teams per division
– 47 Games in a season
– Play every team in your division 3 times, Everyone in the other division twice
– Play two 24 minute halves.
– Top 4 teams in both divisions make playoffs
– Every series in playoffs is best of 7.
– 3 point line is 23.9 feet away (like NBA) shots from 30 feet are worth 4 points.
– Players can come straight out of highschool and get drafted.
– 12- 15 players on a team.
– 2 round draft
– Worst team gets best pick, champions get last pick, lottery for everyone else who doesnt make the playoffs.
– 5 fouls and your out
– Charges taken is an official stat
– 1 All star game, 3 pt shootout, dunk contest and 1 on 1 challenges
– We would go for players like Iverson who hasnt signed yet to get the fans off the bat, then we would go for a player like Sun Ming Ming to get the Chinese fans.
– Other notable players to go for.. Boykins, Childress, Kleisa, anyone not drafted.
– There will be an NABA Channel, and we would try to get a a tv station(Spike TV for example) to broadcast some games to start off, and try to get ESPN, TSN. The Score to show our highlights.

-12 players per roster with a 60 Mil Cap.
– Rule Changes
1. Hand-Checking
2. 2 30 min Halfs
3. 5 fouls and your out.– To Compete with the NBA on TV, I would try to get a program show on Versus and try to get a deal with Dish Network.
– I would go after players like Brent Petway, Von Wafer and would allow HS Kids in my league.
My LeBron would be Will Barton or Enes Kanter
