If the Pacers are smart this off-season i think they should try acquire Darren Collison from the Hornets. They have expiring contracts in Ford, Dunleavy and Murphy and could take on a contract like Posey or Peterson. It will free up cap space for the Hornets at the end of the 2010-11 season.

The trading of Draft picks would most likely also need to happen. If Pacers can’t get Wall or Turner i think that they would be willing. Then they can get a likely lottery pick of NO and take a risk on a guy like Ebanks or James Anderson.

If the pacers were smart they would have made a lot of different moves and would have never been a bottom 5 team.

True, how about if the Pacers (i.e Larry Bird has a flash of normality and realizes how to be a GM) moment.

does that really mean they arent smart?..i mean every team cant make the top 5 or middle of the pack. someone has to be near the bottom no matter howsmart they are ya know. i cant think of alot of there decisions that people were vocal about when they happened. its easy to say in hindsite that some decisions were bad but at the time i dont recall people in outrage

Not terrible moves…one recently would be taking hansbourgh over lawson/collison…that one didn’t make a ton of sense considering they have a good pf in Murphy, and had a pretty big hole at pg.

yeah i agree with you on that one. i think they know troy will be gone soon and thought tj ford would be better. cant blame them too much because no one(here or in the media, most nba teams) thought collins and lawson woul dbe doing what they have been doing this year. if they did im sure they both would have went higher

I doubt the Hornets would trade Collison during the off-season… Especially if the reports are true about Paul’s knee injury and surgery being more serious than team officials are saying.

As much as I like Collison, I don’t like the idea of taking back Posey’s contract, which goes beyond 2010/2011. The summer of 2011 means everything to us Pacer fans lol… We’ll be significantly under the cap and a major free-agency player for the first time in almost a decade. We have Murphy, Dunleavy, Ford, Foster, Tinsley, S. Jones and McRoberts coming off the books for a total of $45,529,540.

I think we need to just sit tight, unless we have a chance at a deal that’s just a no brainer. Wall and Turner are at the top of our draft board, so it’d be a dream come true if we won the lottery or landed the second pick. If we fall below the second pick, I’d like to see Bird be aggressive and at least see what deals are out there. One of my criticisms of Bird is that he’s been too conservative.

I’d also like to see Bird be aggressive during the regular season with our expiring contracts… I really like what Morey was able to do with McGrady’s expiring contract.

On another note… Bird needs to make a decision on Jim O’Brien too. I know we’ve had some injuries, but we’re about to miss the playoffs for the third season in a row. Not only that, we just don’t look like we’re improving. I think the players are starting to ignore him.

Pacers are a stupid organization. They dont really compete for their talent and they have the same issues all these years and they have yet to upgrade anything and they dont like playing people who can still play. The get drafted unathletic guys and seem to be making a effort to have an all white players team. I really dont know where they are going with their team now and they may need a new GM.

It’s definitely time for Larry Bird to go… He needs to take his “yes men” (Coach Jim O’Brien and other various members of the Pacers Sports and Entertainment Front Office) with him. They’ve made some poor decisions around here and haven’t held themselves accountable for them either.

I honestly feel bad for Danny Granger (not THAT bad considering he’s making millions) that he’s spent more than half of his career on a bad team… He’ll be 29-30 years old by the time the Pacers are actually a playoff contender.

Remember last year Ford was in a time share with Jarret Jack, so they musn’t really have had much faith in him. Lawson and Collison wern’t projected to be stud pgs in the league, but it was obvious that they were going to be at least solid…both were proven, polished, and winners throughout college…anyone who thought they wern’t going to be solid starters were dwelling too much on size and athleticism, which has been shown time and time again to be overrated in the draft.
