We are still months away from the 2016 draft but there has already been some movement in on mock drafts and big boards.  As of right now I believe the top three players in the draft are Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, and Jaylen Brown.  Simmons is the clear favorite to go #1 overall but my question is who do you guys see going 2nd.

Ingram struggled for little bit after a quick start to the season but has bounced back in the last couple of weeks.  His length allows him to be disruptive on defense(averaging 1.5blks and 1.4stls) which could make him a two way player if he added some strength to his frame.  Ingram shows flashes of shooting ability and highlight dunks in the open court when you watch him play.  I wonder how much his slight frame will affects teams opinion about drafting him so high.

Brown on the other hand is a physically strong wing player.  He uses that strength to attack the basket.  Like Ingram he has potential to be a two way player in the NBA because of his frame and athleticism.  With Brown the concerns would have to be his jump shot and he can be turnover prone.  Both Brown and Ingram are shooting around 60% from the free throw line but Ingram is shooting 35% from three compared to 26% by Brown.  Shooting is a skill that can be improved so maybe teams would prefer his stronger frame.

So who do you think would go 2nd right now?  Does it depend on the team that is picking?  Are there any players right now that should be in the conversation for the 2nd pick?

I don’t see him falling outside of the top 5. The talent is there.

I think Brown ends up Top 5, but kind of by default. Poetl SHOULD be top 5, but it would take some guts by some team prioritzing winning over selling tickets right off the bat (see Porzingis going #4 after superior workouts and game tape. Should have at least been the #3 pick). I also don’t think Ellenson will declare this year, who I would also take at 5.

Clearly Ingram is the #2 pick, as it should have been for months now. Everyone is on the Ingram bandwagon now, but I and several other posters on here were saying all along he had a superior skill set way above anyone else in this draft besides B. Simmons. And I will say this while Ingram looks good: Ingram will struggle sometime during ACC play, and I STILL say he is the #2 pick. Scouts draft primarily on skill set, and then potential. Production comes after that.

I was quick to knock Ingram after his slow start.  I knew he had too much talent to go the whole year playing like that.  He has been on a tear recently, albeit, against non-elite competition.  He had a chance to rescue Duke with a last second finger roll against Utah to tie the game and send it into a second overtime, but missed.  You can tell he’s just more confident, and has that swagger he had in high school back.  I expect Brandon to struggle some once ACC play starts.  Conference play is a completely different animal.  Even with games where he might completely dissappear or have awful games, I think he is the number 2 pick now based on his potential.

Personally I’d take Ingram over Brown if the KD comparision is anywhere near true but I’m big fans of both guys and don’t have them far behind Simmons on my hypothetical mock.

I personally think there is a bit of a fall off outside the top 3 and that Ingram and Brown are closer to Simmons than the person at 4 on mocks is to Ingram and Brown.

I think Poeltl should go #2. Size, Touch, IQ, looks very coachable, plays with intensity. I like Ingram, I go to Duke and attend every game at Cameron, but Poeltl’s progression this year has been great.

Ingram is not KD, not even close.  People need to stop those comparisons immediately.

He is not Durant but I do like the Gervin comparisons, Ingram is bringing the finger roll back.

Poeltl is an interesting guy in the draft who I think has a legot chance of going in the top 5 and for no real reason he has slid down the mock boards. He has great size and would be fairly NBA ready IMO but I think he’d need a huge season to get in the top 3 mix.

I think he only slips cos he’s kinda vanila. If a team already has a guy that sells jerseys, he’d be perfect.

      However…

As for ‘huge season’…I’d argue that he is having one. Utes have to be a contender this year and his improvement should be making NBA teams optimistic he can be a career starter.

It’s a very weak draft for Bigs and he wouldn’t have been top-5 last year. However I’m pretty confident he’ll be the first front-court player taken.

I definitely agree, if Poeltl keeps this up, he should def be considered a consensus top 5 prospect and a darkhorse for the #2 or #3 Pick. I think the Celtics, if they get that top 5 pick from the Nets, should heavily consider him.

    Won’t be popular around here, right now I’ve got it;

    Ingram
    Murray
    Bender
    Simmons
    Ellenson
    Skal
    Poeltl
    Brown
    Qi
    Korkmaz

Poetel would be a nice fit with the Celtics I agree. There are a fair few times like Philly, T-Wolves, Pelicans, Utah, Phoenix who have young prospects in the front court so they are unlikely to go for him but I could see a team like the Bucks having a real good look at him.

At the Bucks Poetel would effectively just need to be a defensive anchor allowing Giannis, Jabari, Henson etc to guard the perimeter and any scoring from him would be a nice bonus. Jason Kidd would run a few plays to give him some baskets too.

     Question?

Is it a coincidence that the updated mock looks really similar to one I posted at the top of this thread?
