In this case I’d pull the trigger on MKG. Drummond could end up special but the ‘Cats aren’t exactly in a position to pick a "maybe" type player.

Harrison Barnes would be the best option as far as needing an offensive player goes, but I think 2 is a stretch for Barnes.

Chances are they aren’t going to get the first pick as only 3 times in the last 22 years has the worst team in the NBA landed the first pick.

I’d take Michael-Kidd Gilchrist or Bradley Beal. I think both of these players are the best fits for the Bobcats’ needs and they can bring leadership and a winning attitude that the Bobcats are lacking. I’d probably give the edge to Beal as this team DESPARATELY needs someone who can shoot.

It’s too bad the Bobcats aren’t the team with two lottery picks in this draft as this team is weak at basically every position and every team statistical category, and one player is not going to help them improve much. No matter who they get, I still think they will be the worst team in the NBA next year. (or the Nets if they dont re-sign Williams and dont land a draft pick.)

I would take Harrison Barnes with the number 2 pick.  It may seem high but at one point he was said to be the number one pick.  You will get a lot of college fans to come just see him play.  I also think he will do well at the combine and draft interviews.  He will also be a better pro than college baller.  Bobcats really don’t need any big men unless there is a Shaq or Zo in the draft.  Davis would be the closest thing to that.  Drummonds could be good but do you want a young player with more potential than skill on a young team that loses a lot.  That is not a combination.

Also Bobcats need to find a way to get Evan Turner.  A Turner/Barnes/Augustine lineup would be tough.  Turner could play the point guard roll and Augustine could play the 2 guard roll.  Barnes play better off the ball anyway and he can be shooter type we know he can be.

Cats have the pieces to make this work.

If they get #2 i could see them moving down, Drummond more than likey is going to impress in Workouts and some teams are going be willing to move up to #2 for him. Maybe a Portland who may have  two picks in the 4-10 range and no C for next year. And take someone who can put the ball in the basket like Beal, Barnes, Lamb etc. And depending on what Tyreke Evans trade value is now since he’s supposely on the trade block maybe they swap picks with Sac. and aquire Evans.

Basically the Bobcats need talent and if they cant move the #2 pick for a good young player or a couple of 1st rounders alittle later in the draft, i’ll reach on a guy like Barnes, Beal, or Lamb. In a draft lacking Superstar talent and potential these 3 scores have all-star potential and scoring is their biggest need as a team.

If Augustine is let go which shouldn’t happen because he has not played well enough to demand a crazy amount of money subsitute Kemba for Augustine.  Also Bobcats should try to grab Humpries.

They should also look to move or remove some deadweight contracts.

Most of their starters should be on the bench so I am looking at this team with Barnes and possibly Humpries or Randolph(this would not be my first option but he has played well enough to deserve some consideration from things who do not want to spend big)

Also trade future firsts and whatever for Turner.  If they play this right, they will not need anymore young talent for a while and they could always protect for top 5 for 2 years and top 3 for 2 more after that.

    DJ

    Turner

    Barnes

    Humpries

    Biyoumbo

    Bench

    Kemba

    Henderson

Reggie Williams/Maggette(should be moved or amnestied)

Tyrus Thomas(costs to much to amnesty right now but hopefully his play improves so he can be kept or traded for value)/DJ White

    Mullens

Taking up a roster spot but could be bought out or moved because they rarely play

Matt Carroll(could at least be kept for shooting and vet leadership)

Diop( a big body but that is about it)

This is 14 players and they should leave a spot open for their second rounder or a D league type player.

If they can get rid of some of the players not contributing as much, they can pick up some quality vets.

I’m glad i’m not the only person that thinks Barnes could be taken if the Bobcats had the 2nd pick, it may seem like a bit of a reach but considering Jordan’s tendency of drafting UNC players and the fact that they need a legitimate small forward piece leads me to believe that Barnes could be on the their radar.

However, it would be interesting if they took Drummond, he could be the next best thing available after losing out on Davis. Physically, a Biyombo and Drummond bigman tandem would be monsterous and they’ll be getting better game-by-game, i think Drummond gets a bad wrap most of the time, his averages were pretty casual but, it’s admirable that he didn’t stay in High School (bypassing the easy route) and went to College, i suspect it’ll take time for Drummond to fully develop but Charlotte can afford to wait on Drummond, he has more raw potential then anyone on the board at #2.

Most people compare MKG to Gerald Wallace and Bobcats gave up Gerald Wallace so why get a player that is similiar with less experience.  I do understand he would also be cheaper but Barnes and MKG that is close and Barnes being from UNC gives him the edge.

Barnes being from UNC gives him NO EDGE over MKG from a championship Kentucky team. Barnes may have went to UNC but he never got it done. No Final Four, no championship, and he can’t create his own shot w/o a quality point guard. And he has trouble defending. He’ll get your GM fired.

The Bobcats traded Gerald Wallace to free up cap room b/c Jordan wanted to try to lure an elite player to Charlotte. You take MKG b/c he plays hard nosed defense, hustles every play, and is somebody you can count on. His offense may need work but if you’re a coah you know that’s something that can be worked on.

BTW name one player on the Bobcats roster from Carolina? There are 2 from Duke. One MJ drafted the other he traded for

If they don’t get Davis then I think they maybe need to look at a safe pick like Roibinson, Barnes or MKG. Drummond maybe has more upside but a 7-59 team needs some sort of improvement and a more NBA ready guy should give them that.

I would consider amnestying Thomas and maybe looking for a veteran FA or two. I seem to recall that Antwan Jameson stated a desire to play for Charlotte and if he doesn’t want to chase a ring, then he could give them 15 to 20ppg maybe. He’d fill minutes and could use it as a springboard to reach 20,000 career points. The Bobcats are likely to be lottery again next year so they might as well look to give the youngsters minutes and try to show some improvement along the way.

"Jordan’s tendency of drafting UNC players"

Please…since ’05 the Cats haven’t draft a single UNC player outside of Brandan Wright.  Tendency of drafting UNC players…I think not.  In ’05 both Felton and May were positions of need and I am sure he thought the chemistry they had would be an added element.  Hell since then he has drafted just as many Dukies as Tarheels.  He doesn’t have a tendency of drafting UNC players.  IDK where the hell people get that idea from.

I’ve been thinking about the Turner to the Bobcats idea for a few weeks now and it really seems like a perfect situation for both teams.

it will be between MKG and Harrison Barnes… i’m high on Gerald Henderson, i think he’s a cornerstone piece, so i’ll take Harrison Barnes who accomplish him better.

They have so many needs and if they miss out on Davis they should just try to get some pieces they can build around… Honestly I am not convinced that if  I was mj and Portland offered both of their lottery picks, I would turn them away, even if I got the first pick..

I’m not complaining about the negs…but I am complaining about what they symbolize, which is disagreement.  How can you disagree with facts.  Fact is Jordan isn’t some homer only drafting UNC players.

Drummond. They have been in desperate need of a franchise player since the franchise started. IMO, Drummond is the best shot they have at that. As much as i like MKG and Robinson with their high character, they just don’t have the franchise changing potential that Drummond does. He’s not seasoned yet I agree, but the potential is simply too high to pass on for players with pedigree and high character. After all, it hasn’t seemed to work out too well yet with the drafting of guys such as Walker, Okafor, and Henderson. Most times I would say take winning pedigree, but in this case with nothing to really lose, go for the potential homerun. Unfortunately, with failed memories of Kwame Brown, I have to think MJ will go with Robinson.

My personal darkhorse for the pick would be Bradley Beal. While Henderson has progressed nicely, Beal has a much higher ceiling and could top out similar to Ray Allen or Eric Gordon.

if they cant get a sure franchise changer this draft, then  i would try again next after selecting a quality wingman. the three most talked about names are Beal, MKG and Barnes, and honestly, i agree with that. some are giving MKG and Barnes the edge since the bobcats need a small forward more than they need a shooting guard. honestly, i would take Beal over the two of them just because i believe he’ll be much better than Henderson in three years. Henderson will still be a solid wing man, but i wouldnt mind seeing him off the bench on a revamped Charlote squad while Beal is starting. but if they insist on going for a small forward, then i would then go with MKG.

id rather the bobcats try to acquire defensive players and try to grind out games rather than outscoring them. to change the franchise around, you need to get high charachter guys who will do everything you need for the team to succeed and i see those qualities in MKG over Barnes. not saying Barnes is bad for them or a cancer, far from it. i just think that if a situation came up that one of them had to sacrifice for the team, i see Barnes accepting what the coaching staff will ask of him, but MKG will go to the coach’s office and volunteer without being asked.

high charachter guys, thats what you want when youre building from the ground up. talent is nice, but theyre like the preety leaves of a tree. high charachter, those are the strong roots you want to be the foundation of your franchise.

As bad as Charlotte was let’s hope they win the lottery. I kinda agree that if they don’t getbthe number one pick and Portland was interested I’d possibly do the trade. The Bobcats have a lot of holes and just were not very good.

okay, let me throw a scenario that im really curious on what you people think. lets say they dont win lotto, and some team offers their picks instead for charlote’s lotto and second round picks. but its not portland, but houston, offering their 14th and 16th picks. and to sweeten the deal, they offer a swap of Kevin Martin for Tyrus Thomas. What do you do?

We were having a discussion about Melo vs J Smoove and I think that observation applies here.

On a team as bad as the Bobcats, you go with the deadliest scorer with the best all around offensive game.  Thats Barnes.  As far as who is better, I cant say that Barnes is better than MKG, but if the Cats have a chance to get him thats who you take.  I think J Smoove is a much better all around player than Melo and he is just as valuable to a team…but he is not a cornerstone, he is a guy that you pick up AFTER you get Melo.  The same applies here I think.  If it is a team that will need a big time scorer to get the pieces falling in place, Barnes is the guy.  If you have that scorer already, MKG is the guy.

I do feel however that Barnes and MKG will go one after the other in no particular order.   My top 5 are Davis, Drummond, Barnes, MKG, and Robinson.

The Bobcats traded to get a 2nd top 10 pick last year, this year I think they have to draft as high as possible. At worse their pick will be 4th so there should be some very good still on the board but Davis could be a franchise changer and help them to move forward much quicker.

i see your point and it makes a lot of sense. as i was reading your post though, i was thinking to myself. MKG is closer to Josh Smith than Barnes is to Melo. given that MKG is still far from the player Smith is right now, what he did the past season kinda reminds me of Josh’s rookie season in the NBA. a lot of hustle and athletic abilities being displayed. very raw offense mixed with a lot of intangibles. however, you cant say the same for Barnes. Melo was a great scorer on his own, one on one, even one on two in college. he dominated there and lead his team to the title, as a freshman. Barnes though showed he could score, but lacked the ability to consistently create for himself when the flow isnt going his team’s way.

when the nuggets drafted Melo, they knew he was their main guy, their first option. when someone takes Barnes, they’ll still be wondering how he will turn-out.

The deadliest scorer will be Beal, not Barnes IMO. Barnes is closer to Luol Deng than Melo. Purely a second or 3rd option. I still say they need to take Drummond,Beal,MKG,Barnes,Lamb in that order if Davis is gone.

Benny15, if it’s top 2 I say Charlotte keeps it, even if it’s top 3, T-Rob could really help them, but if it slips to 4, that’s when they may start to entertain such an offer, however I doubt it, and the only way I could see if is if MJ only has 2 or 3 guys he really wants in the draft.

M-DYMES, the Bobcats haven’t really been in a position to warrant drafing a UNC player recently, besides the 09′ draft where they passed on Hansbrough (who they had Okafor and Diaw producing well during the 08-09 season) and Green, the point is valid.

To reiterate, one of their needs is a capable small forward, Harrison Barnes fits the description and the UNC link makes it a very possible outcome, the fact is, when in the position, Michael Jordan will select a UNC player most of the time, that is a tendancy.

aamir543, but getting out of Tyrus Thomas’s contract could go a long long way for the bobcats. getting Kevin Martin for him works for them in two ways. one is the obvious one where he would be helping them on the court, putting the ball through the basket which they are in dire need of. the other is his conttact status. the fact that kevin martin’s contract ends in two years means this team can have a clean slate then. all them contracts will be ending then apart from those in rookie deals and if Augustine is only signed to his qualifying offer or to a one year deal like David Lee was for New York.

getting that high potential star player will be great for them, i agree. but clearing bad contracts to me is of greater importance. with the 14th and 16th pick in the draft i feel that Charlote can still get very serviceable players in this draft, possibly high impact ones depending on who slides, every draft has those type of players.
