Meaning, if Stephen Curry wasnt fair skinned w/ blue eyes (pause), but had the same game, would he be this hyped? An emphatic No is my answer. What’s yours?

Think about the number of mid major scoring champs (almost all scoring champs are undersized midmajor SGs, look it up) and ask yourself what makes him different?

Wow..that is a good point but…

Curry has one of the purest shots I’ve ever seen..not to mention a very quick release. Ha also has the ability to play PG & SG with ease.

Name some mid major scoring champs and I will tell you why Curry is different.

I can think of one from this years draft….Lester Hudson. Curry is smarter, better shooter, better ball handler, more experienced, higher IQ, way more offensive moves etc..

I honestly agree. I think he wouldn’t have been a top 10 pick if he didnt have the NBA pedigree.

Think about this….LeBron James Jr is 4….he is projected to be 1st overall in 15 years…..crazy

Not really if he was white, but if he was darker skinned…or didnt have the ‘innocent little kid’ look.

But not just that, its the whole underdog theme behind him. Remember Bryce Drew? He made that shot and in turn was the 16th pick in the draft. 16th! in the entire draft! Curry is better than him, but the same overrating applies. Probable undrafted player goes 16th, potential late 1st rounder ends up going 7th.

Actually if Stephon Curry was Stephen Jones and went to a bigger college his stock couldve went both ways. He couldve gotten less opportunities to shoot than he did at Davidson because he wouldve had better teammates. Thats both a positive and negative because his stats wouldve been worse, but his team likely wouldve been better. It wouldve given him a chance to show his PG skills earlier in his career, which is a positive. So really he really wouldve been in an addition by subtraction kind of situation. You know what I mean?

Actually Curry would probably be a better point guard if that happened. Also I remember when people was calling Curry a bust and weak until after the columbine. Dude has earned his status for playing well and having people get lost in watching him shoot. Once he understands when to shoot and when to pass he will a beast. That is his only issue I see in summer league. Dude is too good of a shooter to not be shooting well but he is trying to do more things than he did in college.

This is a real good point. His father/NBA pedigree and the way he looks definitely have something to do w/ all the hype surrounding him. However, if he would’ve sucked at Davidson, all that wouldn’t have mattered. He stepped up and played really well on the big stages consistently. Even though he played for a Mid-Major, if you look at his skills… Most of them translate over to the NBA. A lot of past great Mid-Major players didn’t have skills that translated to the pros. I think Rodney Stuckey, Kyle Korver, Courtney Lee and George Hill are a few more examples of Mid-Major players who had skills that translated to the NBA. Add Bonzi Wells in there too.

tezo83, Good point, but that also backs up my original point. Of the players that you mentioned, all (except Stuckey and Wells, who were big guards) were late 1st round picks.

Those guys I mentioned also didn’t have nearly as much exposure as Curry. If Hill and Lee would’ve had more exposure, they’d have been lottery/mid first round picks. Curry had quite a few games on the big stage and played huge in majority of them. What put him on the map is his freshman year when they played Maryland in the tournament. They ended up losing in a close game, but Curry played huge. IMO, Curry made a name for himself by his play. I think he deserved where he got picked and will prove it w/ time.

There are a lot of players that had famous dads that did not even get drafted. Curry did not even get attention from top colleges neither did his brother until recently and he transfer over. I have kept track of Curry and if anything he was being said to be too soft and an small two guard until he proved people wrong. They said he was not athelic they compare him to Trajon Landon. Dude was not getting love because on his father. He did get attention because of what he did his second year in the NCAA tournament and being friends with Lebron. There is where his hype came from but with his hype came people expectation being large so when he did not make the NCAA this year playing more point, people started hating. Dude that promise to the Knicks was looking like another dumb Knicks move by some people until he shot up in the draft and they said he could go from 3 to 7. Before all that if the Knicks did not pick him he was someposed to fall to the late teens.

You know what that could have been him first year. I know it was one of those years and not this past year when they went to the NIT.
