abrowniiParticipantIf Philly gets the 1st Pick in the 2014 NBA Draft… would will they take? Case for Jabari Parker: Probably most NBA-ready prospect. Has an all-around game which could make him Philly’s goto guy in their Half-court offense. Andrew Wiggins: Superior Untapped Potential. His Athleticism makes him a great fit in Philly’s up-tempo offense. And has the most potential, only downfall is criticism about his work-ethic. Joel Embiid: Maybe the next big Center: Last time Philly had a legit post up big man. Was Derrick Coleman. Some would say Chris Webber or Elton Brand but both were plagued with Injuries. Embiid back injury and Andrew Wiggins great performance may caused his stock to drop a little. My Pick: Wiggins With a lineup of MCW, Wroten/Wiggins/ Perimeter Shooter, Wiggins/ Young/ Perimeter Shooter, Young/ new PF/, Noel… very explosive fast, defensive unit. Wiggins would be the defensive specialist, and take a role like Paul George. Also with a possible 11th pick, look for Aaron Gordon, Gary Harris, Dougie McBuckets, or James Young to fall to Philly. So what do you think?

burgessfourParticipantIf the Sixers get the #1 pick I agree one way or the other they’ll end up with Wiggins. Embiid is tempting, but I think Wiggins is the player they want. Assuming the team with the #2 pick wants Embiid, there’s no doubt Hinkie will try to
get something for letting Embiid fall to #2. There are also a lot of Bigs expected to come out in 2015, and let there be
no doubt about it, they’re lottery bound next year too.0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/17/2014 - 1:35pm #880103

ibe12ParticipantIf it were me I’d go with Parker but I think Hinkie is a high potential type of guy so I think he’ll go Wiggins. I’d be happy with either pick. With the 11th pick I see him taking a guy like Lavine or Gordon although I’d go with McDermott or try and trade up to get Randle or Vonleh.

joecheck88ParticipantHow would you feel about drafting Harrell from Louisville? I know it’s a little higher than most think he should go but I really like his game.

Ebown5ParticipantI think that they would probably go with Wiggins and I probably would too. From a pure prospect standpoint I think that Embiid is the better prospect, but given that we have Noel I reluctantly am ok with then taking Wiggins.
They probably would take Parker number 2 if Wiggins goes first and I would be ok with that too.
Where I would be really concerned though is if they were sitting at 3 and Parker and Wiggins are gone. You HAVE to take Embiid in that situation, and I hope that they would.

HitsterParticipantHinkie worked under Daryl Morey and is a well known fan of advanced statistics but whether he could use them to judge if an elite college player would make it in the NBA I don’t know.
Of the big three, I would say if the 76ers get first pick at this moment it might be between Parker and Embiid with Wiggins just a little behind but a lot can happen in the next three months before draft day. There is always a feeling that the next elite big is harder to find than the next elite scorer so you could put Embiid ahead of Parker for that reason alone.
But you could factor in that Parker has spent a year under Coach K and that whilst Bill Self has an excellent college record and his achivements may bbe HOF worthy in a few years, he’s not produced the amount of top NBA players that Coach K has over the years. Also as Burgessfour points out the 2015 draft looks to be big man heavy so Sam Hinkie could wait to nab a big then and the 76ers have Nerlens Noel to potentially be a key frontcourt component going forward too.

220ParticipantNo disrespect meant to Coach K, but he really hasn’t produced many top NBA players. Coach K has had a mulitude of top picks that were never more than servicable rotation players. The top Duke playerd in the league currently are Kyrie Irving, Luol Deng, and Carlos Boozer. Even among Duke’s multiple championship group none of the players except Grant Hill really became stars and Hill would’ve likely been much better had he not gotten hurt. Christian Laettner was really never produced as expected although he did make an All Star team. Bobby Hurly and Jay Williams had massive injuries derail their careers.
All that being said the overall mediocrity of Duke’s stars in the NBA makes me believe even more that Coach K is a remarkable coach who covers up his players inadequacies thanks to his system.

Ghost01ParticipantI’m sorry, but this whole "Coach X can’t produce NBA talent" is just complete and utter bs, and the argument is so weak and unfair I can’t believe people still make it.
Most players that are going to go be NBA stars are going to college for 1 year. They are already 90% of who they are going to be in the NBA, and who ever is the best recruiter (Calipari) is going to appear to have the most NBA prospects. Most older players who are NBA stars didn’t go to college, and lately, what college/coach has been ripping off the NBA stars? Calipari has brought in the best recruiting classes for the past 5 years, and Rose and Davis are the only two legitimate studs he brought in. Kevin Durant went to Texas, who hasn’t been ranked for the majority of the time he left. Paul George went to a mid major. Blake Griffin went to OU, who doesn’t have another current NBA player.
College coaches don’t mold NBA stars coaching them for one year. That is a complete fallacy. Most of these guys are studs before they even play college basketball, and wouldn’t be playing if they had the option to go pro.

Ghost01ParticipantI’m sorry if my post was more a direct response to you, it should have been to you and the post you responded to.
His thought was completely wrong. Coach K is a great basketball coach, with incredible acolades. I am a Duke fan, and even a bigger Jabari Parker fan. But the fact is, he playing under Coach K has given him virtually no advantage over Wiggins. I have read about some of the 1 on 1 teaching and that’s fine, but they are still running an offense where half the time he’s standing in the corner. And the other half hes posting up, which still isn’t ideally what he should be doing. Out of necessity or not that isn’t exactly grooming Parker for the NBA.
Self also runs too many sets but apparently that’s what all college coaches do. Even Calipari has misused some of his NBA guys, in my opinion.
Base your system around your personnel. Duke should be running PNR with Parker and Hood way more than they do. KU Should be allowing Wiggins to run more and playing around his strengths more. That’s why gauging these guys becomes tough. I have no clue if Wiggins has just been holding back/isn’t getting the ball enough, or if he’s just one of those dudes that doesn’t always have the killer instinct to be super aggressive.

burgessfourParticipantI said in my earlier post I thought Hinkie would take Wiggins because I think that’s who he wants. I would also like to add that it wouldn’t really surprise me if he took Embiid then assuming they get the N.O. Pick and it’s around 11, Hinkie tries to trade up for Hood. I could even see him going with C.J. Fair (yes another SF) with their first round 2 pick.

juves4783Participanti agree that he’ll draft wiggins but it’s more because wiggins is versatile enough to play sg and would have a lot of length with mcw in the backcourt. then he could add hood to be the other starting wing since both of those guys seem good enough to play right off the bat (even though the team would still be pretty bad). cj fair in the lottery is laughable though. if they would take fair there, why not draft gordon first? same skill set but more potential.

abrowniiParticipantIf he gets drafted in either round I’ll be surprised. Why he’s not a great defender. He can’t dribble. He can’t go right. He can’t score going right. He’s a 6’6 SF with on-ball abilities. His best asset is running off of left pindown mid-range jumpers. Or shooting a baseline floater. He’s highly overrated and is the reason, why Syracuse was slumping. Just Saying

NeggedFolyfethe sixers second pick can be anywhere between 8th or 11th and could move up with the lottery
theres alot of talent on the board I fell as tho you take bpa
wether that’s smart randle, lavine ,embid (who may slip like Noel, lopez and Drummond )or whoever impresses in workouts just make sure their solid I just urge against gary harris or Rodney hood I also feel like the other half of the first round is being downplayed I remember the 2008 draft.

blink3ebfanParticipantWiggins is far and away the top option in this draft for the Sixer’s in my opinion. The key factor that seperates him from Parker is his ability to effect the game on both ends of the floor. Parker doesn’t have the lateral quickness to be a factor on the defensive end and Wiggins has already proven to be a game changing defender. His ability to change the game on both ends of the floor will make a more tangible factor overall in the NBA landscape (although maybe not in fans eyes with Parkers already prodigious offensive game). With the abundance of shooter/scores in the mid to latter half of the lottery with McDermott and Hood, and bigs such as Randall, Vonleh and Gordon, the Sixers can take a player that is guaranteed to be an all around wing rather than a pure scorer.

vulture711ParticipantNo way am I risking a high pick on a guy with a history of injury, especially coming off the Bynum debacle. He also doesn’t fill a need with Noel ready to go. Either Wiggins or Parker would fill a need at 3. The 2 & 3 spots on this team have been weak spots since the Dr J & Toney days. If we could land either of them and add Dougy Fresh I’d do cartwheels. I’m not sold on Gary Harris as he’s small for a 2 so they magically list him as a combo guard and none of the other 2 guards are exciting. I don’t really want to reach with the Pelicans pick I’d rather grab someone I know can ball

Andrew1984ParticipantIf things could go ideally for each team at the top of the draft (within reason), this is how I envision it going:
1. Philadelphia: Wiggins (A good-sized market for him, and a young core)
2. Milwaukee: Embiid (in hopes of reviving the Lou Alcindor days)
3. Utah: Parker (LDS country, and they could go Burke-Hayward-Parker-Favors-Kanter)
4. Orlando: Randle (They like ‘Dipo, Afflalo, Harris, and Vuc, but O’Quinn and Nicholson just aren’t what Randle is.)
5. L.A.L.: Exum (It just makes so much sense.)
6. Boston: Smart (This would give Ainge the flexibility to figure out what he really wants to do with Rondo. They also don’t really have a prototypical two-guard on their roster. Smart can play either spot.)0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/18/2014 - 2:01pm #880280
