There’s no question that if you’re good enough to play in the NBA regardless of your size, you’ll find a way, but I was wondering the average size per position of the best players at their positions.  Sean Livingston is a 6’7” PG and Chuck Hayes is a 6’6” center and both are valuable contributers to their respective teams, but I was curious as to where the best players at each position stacked up as far as ideal size and weight.

I took the top 5 scorers are each position, the top 5 rebounders at C, PF, SF, and SG, and the top 5 assist leaders at PG as well as the top 5 shot blockers at C and PF, and the top 5 steal leaders at SF, SG, and PG and averaged their heights and weights just to see what would happen.  The results surprised me a little because they were very much what would be considered "ideal" when scouting a player.

    C- 6‘11.25’’ 262lbs

    PF- 6‘10.5’’ 247lbs

    SF-6’8’’ 234lbs

    SG-6‘5.5’’ 207lbs

    PG-6‘2.4’’ 190lbs

Just something I threw together out of boredom, but what do you guys think about "ideal" size and how it fits in when you are scouting a player.

    Sullinger = Sean May.

He will eat himself out of the league with his poor conditioning.

i think those are pretty spot on.

ideally id prefer my SG to be 6’6, and the C to be 7’1.

but that is in a perfect world.

I think i doesnt hurt to be taller than everyone else at your postion. so being a 6"4pg or 6"8sg or 7’3 center isnt gonna hurt.

Poor conditioning?..Yeah you obviously havn’t watched Sullinger play. He actually is in better condidtion then every big man he has faced( shows from the way they are sucking air near the end of games while he is still beating them up in the post and beating them down the floor). Don’t let his big frame fool you(too late obviously)

Nice list. I prefer my players to look like this

    PG:  6’4

    SG:  6’6

    SF:  6’8

    PF:  6’10

    C:    7’0

But your statistical output looks about spot on.  Nice man
