Last couple of years a lot of star players been injured.

My idea is that get rid of preseason or make it only two games.

Preseason should start october 1st and regular season should start about october 10th.

injuries are part of the game.  it’s the role of the gm to build depth and the coach to utilize bench players effectively when a starter is injured.  look at how the spurs have managed their elders and maintained a spot in the playoff standings.

shortening the preseason won’t put an end to injuries.

82 game NBA season is too long for good players not to get hurt. Juves hit it on the head, don’t have a 2 man team and injuries won’t derail you.

good coaches shouldnt be over extending their key players in pre-season. besides many would argue that its lack of time on the court that leads to injuries and guys who stay busy in the off season tend to keep their bodies more sharp during the long haul of an 82 game season. Subtracting a couple pre-season games would only make the start of the season that much more sloppy and not give coaches enough time to figure out rotations and who should be the final cuts etc..

    Pre-season is not the issue.

It is a mix of the following –
Too many games (regular season + playoffs could mean over 100 games in a full season!)
Back to backs and back to back to backs (how many players get injured in these stints – there is no recovery time!)

There are a bunch of ways to reduce this –
Not over extend players (You see stars sitting more in stretches of games now)
Build more depth (This is always going to be a trade off for quality players over quantity of players)
Reduce the number of games in the season (less games spread over the same time or shorten the season)

I am actually all for the league reducing the number of games so teams don’t play back to backs (to backs). This way you would see star players sitting less as the schedule would be less rigorous. I would be a fan of a 62 game season (play all teams twice) where the best 16 teams make the playoff (get rid of the conferences). I think this would encourage teams not to rest players and improve the quality of games. There would be more time between games so I think young players (and old) would benefit from time in the gym during the season.

A high impact sport mixed with a lengthy season means large player loads, especially when you consider the inclusion of training and weight sessions too. This inevitably leads to injuries, both acute and overuse. Scrapping the pre-season won’t help though as players need those games to become reaccustomed (or accustomed for rookies) to the pace and intensity of the NBA both on a physical and mental level, jumping from nothing to the regular season will just result in a large spike in player loads and result in WAY more acute injuries early in the season.
