sjobljaParticipantIf a team has a pick that they acquired in a trade….for example the Jazz pick coming up from Golden State which is protected 1-7. Let’s say the Jazz get the pick because it ends up at 8 and then win in the lottery (lets say it moves up to pick #3)….does it go back to Golden State because of the protection or do the Jazz keep it meaning that the potection only occurs before the lottery balls bounce. I would appreciate an answer from people that REALLY know the draft rules…..not just assumptions. Thanks.

Cosbysweater7ParticipantIt would go back to the Warriors. Just like if the Trailblazers’ pick that is via New Jersey gets into the top 3, the Nets would keep it because it is top 3 protected. If I was a Warriors fan I would be pissed that they won that game against the T-wolves the other night. That would have tied them with Toronto and New Jersey for the 6th worse record in the NBA with New Jersey and Toronto, who are playing each other on the last game in the season, so someone has to win that game. Instead they are stuck in 8th place with their pick likely going to Utah.

rwd5035ParticipantI remember when Detroit took Darko, the pick they received (forgot from who) was protected only on the 1st pick in the draft. If I remember correctly, that is.
