I really don’t like how much people over react over rookies. They act like they will come into the league and just put up huge numbers and start over veteran NBA players. For example, in the post about Udoh, several posters have him starting over Biedrins… Like seriously? Biedrins averaged 20 and 10 when healthy (i think) and is over 7 feet tall. How good do these people think every rookie is going to be?

I agree, rookies shouldnt have such high expectations, especially in their first year…he should be thankful if he ever averages 11 rebounds, let alone as a rookie

as for Biedrens, career year in points was about 12ppg

Okay, so 20-10 was a reach lol, but he did average 12-11 in a guard oriented offense lol. But still, do you think some rookie who doesnt look that great, will take his job? I just see everyone over estimating the impact of a rookie in their first season..

“Biedrins averaged 20 and 10 when healthy”

12-11 for a year got him $54 million despite the fact his range is whatever he can dunk.

As for Udoh starting, Nellie is crazy. He had zero rhyme or reason for what he did last year. He can fall in love with Ben Woodside this summer and make him the starting point guard. He can bench Biedrins, Udoh, Randolph, and Wright to go with Chris Hunter and Anthony Tolliver again.

I didnt say every rookie, but there always exceptions, but how many rookies start most of the year in their rookie season? People act like most rookies will start, but it usually doesnt happen.

i see wall starting next to arenas. i see turner and iggy starting on the wings. i dont see favors starting right away, yi will probably get to earn that job and favors will develop off the bench as pf and c, he also wont start if they get a pf in free agency. Wes might get to start, but i see brewer and webster as the opening day wings. Cousins should start, but he will probably be behind dalembert and landry, maybe thompson, but will start next year when sammy is gone.

    Wall gets 15 and 6
    Turner gets 17 and 6(reb)
Favors gets 11 and 9 the first year
    Johnson gets 13-17 and 5
Cousins gets about what favors gets (maybe a little more offense)

I agree, there are usually only a handfull of rookies who average more than 10 points per game. A lot of great NBA players averaged under 10 their rookie seasons, but I agree a rookie rarely (there are exceptions) is the piece needed to put a team over the edge into a playoff team or a contender, but rather players to build around for the future, or valueable role players.

These are my predictions for these rookies

    Blake Griffin 18 ppg 9 rpg 1 blk 1stl
John Wall 17 ppg 7 apg 1.5 spg
Evan Turner 14 ppg 4 rpg 4 apg
Derrick Favors 9 ppg 7 rpg 1.5 bpg
Wes Johnson 14 ppg 5 rpg 3 apg
DeMarcus Cousins 13 ppg 9 rpg
Epke Udoh 8 ppg 6 rpg 1.5 bpg
Greg Monroe 10 ppg 6 rpg 3 apg

Those are just my predictions for the top picks, outside of the top 10 I think James Anderson, Luke Babbit, Xavier Henry, Willie Warren, Dominique Jones, and Jordan Crawford could all average around 8-10 ppg. I don’t think any rookie scores over 20 per game this year.

I think of the top 10 picks this year Gordon Hayward or Al Farouq Aminu averages the least.
