This has probably been mentioned but I guess Minny gets Utah’s pick now.  It should be a decent pick with some solid players still on the board.  Lots of forwards in that area but the T Wolves look to be set there with Kevin Love and Derrick Williams (plus Beasley and some other guys who might be traded).

Is Terrance Ross the pick here?  If he is there?  Or what about Doron Lamb.  Solid player who can hit shots.

Or do they take the best player on the board and try to make it work?

They might be busy on draft night trying to trade Beasley, Randolph, or both.  If I were them I would try to trade Beasley, Darko, and a second round pick for Tyreke Evans (although Sacto might want a first rounder), and possibly Luke Ridnour if that is what it would take to get the deal done.  I am not sure what Tyreke’s trade value is but the Kings are looking to move him. Minny would be a good place for him.  Although he can’t shoot too well outside, he can drive and get his own shot.  If he gets his jumper to go down he could be an all-star.

I think that Love, Rubio, Derrick Williams, Tyreke, and Pek would be a great core for the future.  JJ Barea looks like a good 6th man type with Wes Johnson being a defensive/glue guy/utility player off the bench at the 3/2.  With Utah’s pick the T Wolves could then take the best player available and hope that Martell Webster and Wayne Ellington turn into the long-distance threats that they need.  If Arnette Moutlrie is there or if John Henson is there they might be the kind of athletic, versatile bigs that Minnesota needs.  Love and Pek are great but they aren’t really athletic and are subpar shot blockers.

There’s a risk to going after Tyreke.  He can’t shoot that well and tends to dominate the ball.  But, he can score, drive the ball, and pass and rebound some.  He is too much of a talent at a position the T Wolves need (a scoring 2 guard) for them to pass up.  He would also give them a great young core for the future.

It would take at least Derrick Williams to start talking to Sactown about Tyreke Evans. Beasley (free agent) is going to make more than Tyreke and has even bigger character concerns than Tyreke. So why would Sactown do that. They will not give Tyreke away, I do think it is time to move on though, for both of them.

I think it is a misconception that the wolves need an outside shooter. What they really need is an effective slasher/scorer from the SG spot. They have a quality group of 3p threats in Love, Beasley and Ridnour (Ellington and Webster have shown some spot up ability as well). Tyreke could fill in the midrange gap nicely. So would Waiters or Ross…

A true center like Fab Melo wouldn’t be a horrible addition as a defensive presence down low and would also make Darko unnecessary, but that’s only if they can’t land a good SG with the Utah pick, which is unlikely. I disagree with you on the John Henson, Arnett Moultrie idea though; one thing they don’t need is another PF, even if they will be good players they wouldn’t play, so they wouldn’t help.

There have been almost too many posts about Minnesota’s pick this year (not complaining as a Wolves fan).. But I think this is the third or fourth I’ve posted on this week..

… the problem is : randolph is almost gone (no qualifying offer and no will to extend him), beasley could be very soon… you could go frm a logjam to a lack very quickly (the draft could help you to prevent that kind of issue before they make decisions on beasley’s future)

love and pek’ are a great frontcourt but not very atletic, milicic is big but not really athletic, tolliver is… tolliver. So you’ll need some back up pf : athletic and defensive if possible.

It will be interesting to see how much trade value Tyreke Evans has.  He has value, but I doubt that he is worth more than Beasley, Darko, and possibly the Utah pick and Ridnour.  I don’t think that a team is going to offer more than Beasley, Darko, and a mid-first rounder.

I am a fan of the league and I like the T Wolves.  I am also a Tyreke Evans fan, so a Rubio, Tyreke, Williams, Love, and Pek team would be a very interesting team going forward.  That would be a great core with JJ Barea, Anthony Tolliver, Anthony Randolph, Wes Johnson, and Wayne Ellington/Martell Webster would be good rotation guys.  Use a second rounder on a backup big man or sign one in free agency.  Darrell Arthur might come cheap and he can score, hit a midrange jumper, dunk, block shots, and rebound.  If they can keep Ridnour that would be great, if not sign a steady backup point guard or have a smallish, interchangable 3 guard rotation of Rubio, Tyreke, and Barea.

Yeah this is like the 4th thread about the Wolves in the last couple days, but hey I aint complaining either.

If the Wolves stay at whatever pick it is (15-18) I would assume, then they should have about 3 guys on their radar.

Terrence Ross: everything Wes Johnson was supposed to be. Big, athletic wing player who can score without dominating the ball. Moves well off screens, rebounds, defends well, could be a better version of Jared Dudley

Doron Lamb: if he measures out taller then 6’4 then I’d probably favor him more. Great spot up shooter, mid range shooter, and has played on a team where he was not "The Man" so the transition to a role player may be smoother than some.

Austin Rivers: may have the most potential of anybody in the class, but I’m not sure if he can play off the ball effectively. He could be Steph Curry, or he could be a bigger Barea. If Ross and Lamb are gone, I’d roll the dice, if anything it would get the Wolves even more hype and rep.

I personally would love to see the Wolves try to trade up into the top 10 and get an upper echelon wing like Beal, Barnes, or Lamb. I dont buy the argument that the wolves need a veteren to guide all the kids, they need talent. Love has been in the league long enough now, Ridnour is a vet, and Adelman and the rest of the staff can guide young guys plenty.

That’s what I was going to suggest. I would much rather they trade that pick PLUS Beasely, Randolph, Barrea or some combination of those guys to get into the top 10 to get Beal. He would be great for the Wolves because he isn’t ball dominant and is very effective at picking and choosing his spots. He could put up 12-18 points in his first year as a starter which would be great. If not, I think they should target Austin Rivers. While its true we have a lot of shooters, he’s the guy who has IT. He wants the ball in the 4th quarter and he has proven he can succeed in that position. Right now our two guys like that who demand the ball are Rubio (who can’t shoot) and Barrea (who is a very selfish player in the 4th quarter). Kevin Love is to an extent but if we could have him playing the pick and roll game with Rivers, there’s no doubt that they would always have an advantage over the defense.

@Biggysmalls… I am not a huge Rivers supporter and have been struggling on comparing him to an NBA player for ages now. But comparing him to a slightly taller JJ Barea is right on in my mind. Not a great PG but ball dependent scorer who is undersized and likes to attack the rim with a inconsistent outside jumper.. Good one!

There is no way Austin Rivers can play PG effectively. Even if he is 6’3 we have seen undersized guards work. Maybe not win championships but he could be the kinda guy that the lifts the team in the 4th quarter.
