Mr. JewboyParticipantI was just checking NBA salaries, and I saw that Boston still pays Wallace and Shaq (if the season were to start anyways). Rasheed Wallace retired last year! and Shaq retired this year!
Now I know that they signed conracts that last until this year, but how is it possible that they still get money after they RETIRE?
I really don’t get it..and how is nobody talking about this now that players conracts is such a big issue with the lockout and all?

mikeyvthedonParticipantThis happens sometimes. I am guessing it probably does not count against the luxury tax and their must be some system to pay the players what they signed for. I do not see this being a major issue, while it may indeed suck for teams to have to pay players after they do indeed retire, it has happened before when players have had to retire due to injury. I thought they reached some sort of buyout with Rasheed, so that he did not count against the cap, and I thought the same with Shaq, but I see they are still listed on HoopsHype. Nonetheless, I do not see this being a major issue, what is not to get? When you sign a guy like Sheed or Shaq long term, you are taking a calculated risk that they will remain healthy enough to play. The Celtics took that risk. Player contracts are as big of a deal as the people offering them and paying them are making it. Shaq and Sheed were not exactly breaking the bank, what is not to get here?

ProudGrandpaParticipantWhat a discovery you have made! Your perceptivity puts your Jewish brethren in the NBA front office to shame. I will call up Deputy Commissioner Adam "The 2nd Round Guy" silver right now.

aamir543ParticipantWait, so I get lectured by MDymes for admittedly overdoing the whole Indian thing, but this guy’s username is Jewboy, lol, Just kidding.
But if the salaries still count against the cap, does that mean that Shaq and Yao are in NBA2k12?(I obviously haven’t gotten the game yet.)

theEDGEParticipantEverybody here also forgot about the Keith van Horn trade, who was also retired and got traded to (I believe) the Mavericks.
And wasn’t Stackhouse part of such a deal also.
So, I think it’s weird that you can still trade a guy who’s retired and that the other team could reap the beneefit of that money not counting against the cap.
