Make’Em Say UGHParticipant"I been ballin’ hard since like the 5th grade, Watchin’ A.I. gettin’ 40 with the French braids."
Yup. Lance Stephenson just dropped a freestyle over the infamous Bobby Shmurda, "Hot N***a" track and it was actually pretty damn good! I’ll be honest here, I’m pretty biased: Hornets fan, Charlotte resident, rap fan (I mean Master P is my avi when he was on the Hornet’s summer roster lol)
I’m curious to see if this will end up as bad press for Born Ready (considering the song title), although it was ALL in good fun. Either way it feels good to be excited about basketball in Charlotte again!

dcaseParticipantDoubt it was a freestyle. Not sure if he is going to catch bad press for the song title….but maybe. If he was to catch bad press for anything it would and should be for letting his little daughter listen to it and for both of them rolling around in a car without a seatbelt.

Shaquille OatmealParticipantIn this context, "freestyle" means someone’s just dropping bars (usually on someone else’s beat) instead of actually making a full on song. It has nothing to do with whether or not the bars are written before hand.

dcaseParticipantIn this context? What context? I would say ‘freestyle’ isn’t context specific, rather used incorrectly.

ConsiderableUpsideParticipantIn hip-hop there are off the head freestyles, which is what most people think of when they hear the word.
There are also what is called structured freestyles. A rapper spits a verse freestyle, but he uses lyrics that are either written down previously or in his memory bank. If you keep in mind that a real MC has endless lyrics and bars floating around in his head it makes sense. That’s why if you listen to a lot of "freestyles" you will hear artists reuse lines, Eminem is known for doing this a lot. Check out some of his newer "freestyles" online. It is still considered a freestyle because he isn’t sitting down and writing a verse. There is a documentary where Krs-One and other legends discuss this in detail.

ConsiderableUpsideParticipantShouldn’t be too big of a deal, all he did was use the beat of a song with a somewhat questionable title (and a good one I gotta say). Only thing would be if he pulls an Iverson using various f-words, if you have heard his freestyle years ago you would know what I mean.

goneParticipantWhy is the title questionable?

FearTheStacheParticipantThe title is Hot N-Word, not exactly the most PG thing in the world

ConsiderableUpsideParticipantWell… it doesn’t bother me in that context, but it’s the most controversial word in American history for starters.

tuck243ParticipantBut I think Lance off one verse is the best basketball rapper (yes it’s a term apparently) today… Stack 5, Jewels, Kobe, C-Webb, or Shaq aren’t touching Lance with the bars son!!! LOL

dcaseParticipantHaha! I was kind of partial to Cedric Ceballos – Flow on or Dana Barros – Check It. All jokes aside Shaq wasn’t bad on his collaboration with Wu Tang – No hooks.
