I am from Chicago and when I was growing up the talent in the area was unbelievable. I used to cut out the all area and all state teams from the Sun-Times and was looking back at them recently. Check out the players from the 1998 all-state team

    Corey Maggette- Fenwick
    Quentin Richardson- Whitney Young
    Dwayne Wade- Richards
    Bobby Simmons- Simeon
    Brian Cook- Lincoln
    Darius Miles- East St. Louis

Eddy Curry was a freshman and didn’t make the team. Other guys who made the team were amazing high school ballers like Frank Williams and Michael Wright that did well in college but didn’t do much in the pros. That team is pretty talented though.

The 1995 team was pretty strong too with Garnett, Maggette, Melvin Ely, and Ronnie Fields, who in my opinion was one of the best high school ballers ever, definitely top 3 dunker. Check out some of his youtube vids. Imari Sawyer was on that team too. Unless you are from here you probably have no idea who he is but the kid was amazing, just too troubled.

The 2002 All-State team was impressive as well

    Andre Iguodala- Springfield Lanphier
    Luther Head- Crane
    Shannon Brown- Proviso East
    Dee Brown- Proviso East
    Eddy Curry- Thornwood
    Will Bynum- Crane
    Alando Tucker- Lockport
    Sean Dockery- Julian

Chicago has a rich history of producing point guards such as: Rose, Collins, Bynum, Wade, etc. and wing players such as Maggette, Q-Rich, Iggy, etc. but for some reason the bigs fail to produce. Some big names that come to mind:

    Eddy Curry
    Rashard Griffith
    Tommy Hamilton
    Leon Smith

All of those guys were All-Americans but never lived up to their potential. Curry has had the most success but that isn’t saying much. Griffith was actually rated above Rasheed by most experts. Hamilton ballooned to 400lbs and Leon Smith went batsh@t crazy. The point guards from Chicago have a rep for being tough as nails and the bigs have a rep as being soft.

This is starting to ramble on but with people being from all parts of the country, I was wondering if anybody can think of some talented classes such as these. Some of the pictures of these guys are great. Lots of box tops!
