Howard unlikely to re-sign

Just saw this on ESPN, Dwight Howard has very little chance of re-signing with LA, just wondering what everyone thinks about it….

There is a rumor he has 8 kids, so he better take that Laker money or get a sign and trade. Thats going to be a lot of child support.

I don’t think it should come as a huge surprise to people. Dwight was subtly vocal this year about his dislike for both D’Antoni’s system and having to play with Kobe Bryant. I use subtle because he hinted at his dislike for things but never came right out and say it. Meanwhile his body language said a whole lot, especially when he brushed off Kupchak after his last game.
Safe to say I dont find it very shocking that he would leave the Lakers. Kobe’s personality is a clear clash for Dwight. But I don’t necessarily see Houston as the solution as has been reported at great length. If Dwight wants to be the clear cut #1 player Houston isn’t the place. Harden is emerging and was 5th in scoring in the league…
I think if he wants to take over a franchise then Dallas or even *gulp* Atlanta are his best bets.

  i agree 100%, i think Houston is the best bet as far as basketball team for the next 5 years, but with Dwight you never know, i also think he wants to be “THE MAN” and he won’t be in Houston, i think if he went to Houston they would be atleast a 4 or 5 seed every year and be a really tough team, Even in Atlanta it would be a good team in the east if they managed to keep Smith, but i never see them winning it all. Dallas even w/ Howard is still pretty far away, they would have alot of other moves to make to put together a contending team.

  The Lakers wanted Griffin and Bledsoe, which is a lot considering the fact that the Lakers have no leverage anymore.

This guy is ridiculously annoying. He does not know what he wants. He wants to be THE MAN AND WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS but instead of just talking just play and show you are the man and you can win!! The Lakers will surround him with talent that fits into his game even if that means firing D’Antoni. But honestly this guy is confused and can’t make his decision. I thought LBJ “south beach” decision was bad but that is nothing compared to what Dwight is doing this past few years.

To be honest, aside from Houston (if we’re able to S&T for him and sign Josh Smith), I don’t know where he’ll have a better team.
If you don’t want to play for the Lakers, then there isn’t a team good enough to help you win a title. Play with Kobe another year and try for a title, if that doesn’t work, let the Lakers build around you. The Lakers ALWAYS find talent in free agency and the trade market. He’s not going to have a better chance at a title anywhere else outside of the Lakers.

  just my opinion, but i think Houston is the only place out of the teams everyone throws around (ATL,DAL,LAL,HOU) that he has a real shot at winning the title. Kobe is not gonna play more than 2 more years and theres just no way i see that team winning it all. maybe Dallas could pull off some amazing moves but just signing Howard their still a team that gets knocked out 1st round. If ATL could keep Smith and sign Howard, i think they could be good, maybe make second round, but they can’t come out of the east. Houston however even without Josh Smith, just adding Howard is very intriguing. The team would still be very young and to have Harden and Howard locked up for the next 5 years is a good looking team to build around. The first year they prolly wouldn’t come out of the west but after the chemistry sets in and they are all playing well together and with even a couple moves here and there continuing to build around Harden and Howard i could see them being a very good team and contend for the title some point down the road. Anywhere else for Howard i just don’t see it w/o another superstar coming to play.

    The thing about the Lakers is, even if they don’t win with Kobe and he retires, the Lakers always sign or trade for stars, it’s just the way things happen.
    I would love to S&T for Howard and sign Smith though, that would be my dream scenario

      yeah everyone loves to play in LA, cant blame em, i love southern California as well. After Kobe retires there will be some big name free agents that go there, i agree w ya there but imo their pretty far away. The Lakers are even short on good role players, could they get em……..absolutely, but w the teams in place that Rockets team plus Howard looks really good on paper. Paper doesn’t always work out tho, i understand that. I think theyd be really tough tho, Asik would be their backup, prolly the best backup C in the league if Howard went to Houston. you could even play dwight at PF and Asik at C depending on who ya play. I just think theyd be set for the next 5 years just gotta make the right tweaks and adjustments but a line up like Lin,Harden,Parsons,TRob,Howard with Asik and everyone else off the bench looks really good.

Is the Lakers only hope for next season. Considering his back issues I’m guessing Howard would like to cash in now than banking on his health and performance over the next three years. However you never know with this guy
