jjmass22ParticipantPractice, practice. Few pointers, make sure ball only touches figure tips, snap wrist ball should have good rotation. Feet should be shoulder length apart, bend at knees and use your legs, elbow should have a L shape, eyes should never leave back of rim, don’t follow the ball in air will help your follow thru, confidence is the key so see the ball thru the net, lay on your back and practice shooting in air will help your form , remember keep your elbow in and you’ll, like me have the green light to shoot from any distance.

omphalosParticipantPractice shooting one handed and on balance so that you stop the guide hand contaminating your form. Make sure your shot has a nice high arc too.

Striver347ParticipantRelease the ball off your pointer and middle finger. That dramatically improves accuracy and control. Also, use legs for strength. You’ll need tons of patience depending on how slowly it comes to you as it doesn’t come easily. Look up JJ Redick on better basketball’s short shooting clips. They alone teach alone. And pretty much watch Stephen Curry’s motions and release points. Study him and soon when guys play you, they’ll truly see why they hate defense. Good luck

Bison 49Participant1) Have good core strength to ensure your upper body is balanced, even when your power body is not.
2) Once you commit to shooting concentrate on the hoop and do not break this concentration until you have completed your follow through
3) Remember that your shot always starts with your legs.
4) Make sure your elbow is in, and forearm is straight up and down.
5) Put good arc on the ball. The more arc the more likely the ball is to bounce through the hoop when it his the rim. Again use your legs to get the extra power for the arc.
6) Follow through on your shot. If your arm stops the minute the ball leaves your hands, you have lost considerable power on your shot, and this will translate to a loss of control.Practice practice practice. Once you get the stationary shot down, proactice in game type situations (i.e. on the move, and with a defender on you.

llperezgrowing up, i just watched the best shooters in the league that had the prettiest shots and would watch close ups of theri shot in slowmo and take note of every little detail in their form from begining to end. Go out and practice this form over and over until everytime the ball leaves your hand it feels the same and feels like it should go in.
a couple more tips.
You want the ball to feel effortless when it leaves your hand. You should not feel like you are straining to get it to the rim from college 3 distance. If you have proper form, this shouldnt be hard. Practice shooting 3’s flat footed without your legs so you can get the feel of an effortless stroke once oyu actually do add your legs in.
Always make sure your shooting elbow is tucked in nice and neat. Most people just think this means focusing on your shooting hand, but it also means focusing on your guide hand and bringing it in front of your face so that the shooting hand can stay on its own side of the body and thus stay straighter.
Dont guide your shots to the rim. By that, i mean dont let your shooting hand over extend all the way to the rim and tyr and guide it to the basket. The trajectory of your shot is mostly based on when the ball is close to the body.
Keep both your shooting hand and guide hand close to each other through out the shot. Your guide hand should come up, follow through, and come back down with your shooting hand all in the same motion.
Practice.

PureshooterParticipantKeep the same release point as well, if possible. You should bring the ball up in line with your right knee (assuming you’re right handed) and make sure you shoot at the peak of your jump. If you don’t get much height on your jump shot, your release should actually start as you are jumping. This will increase the range on your jumper a great deal. Whatever you do, make sure you don’t hold on to the ball too long and shoot on the way down.

R-Dot-13ParticipantOne drill I like to do is stand a few feet away from the basket, shoot the ball and work on your form.
Try and keep your elbow in, the ball on your fingertips and a nice follow through.
Everytime you score, step back two steps. When you miss twice in a row, start over.
I got this drill from this video

I love doing this at practices and before games.
Hope this helped0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/20/2010 - 4:37am #358046
