When I look at prospects I like to see how they performed against top teams with talent in big games. It shows how they will fair against tougher competition in the nba and it shows their ability to show up in Big games.

I’ll take a look at the stats of some of the top prospects against teams that were in the top 25 when they were playing them or currently are:

    The Big Men
    Anthony Davis: 5 games:     12.2ppg, 8rpg, 0.6apg, 4.4bpg, 2.4spg, 66%FG in 30.8 mpg
    Andre Drummond: 9 games: 11.3ppg, 8.1rpg, 0.3apg, 2.4bpg, 1.1spg, 51%FG in 29.6 mpg
    Jared Sullinger: 8 games:       17.0ppg, 8.9rpg, 1apg, 0.5 bpg, 1.6spg, 47%FG in 35.1 mpg
    Thomas Robinson: 9 games: 19.8ppg, 12.2rpg, 0.8apg, 0.9bpg, 0.6spg, 49%FG in 33.1 mpg
    Perry Jones III: 7 games:     10.7ppg, 6.0rpg, 0.9 apg, 1.0bpg, 1.1spg, 38%FG in 31.5 mpg
    Arnett Moultrie: 5 games:    12ppg, 10.4rpg, 1.4apg, 0.8bpg, 0.4spg, 51%FG in 35 mpg

The Swingman (no point guards among top prospects)
    Michael Gilchrist: 5 games: 16.8ppg, 12.2rpg, 1.8apg, 0.8spg, 55%FG, 43%3PT in 36.8mpg
    Harrison Barnes: 7 games: 15.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 0.5 apg, 0.6spg, 37%FG, 35%3PT in 30.7mpg
    Austin Rivers:  9 games:  16.4 ppg, 3.3rpg. 1.9apg, 0.4spg, 42%FG, 46%3PT in 33.2mpg
    Jeremy Lamb: 9 games: 15.1 ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.8apg, 1.6spg, 41%FG, 37%3PT in 38.4mpg
    Bradley Beal: 6 games: 15.7ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.8apg, 1.7spg, 41%FG, 33%3PT in 35.1mpg

If I was a GM I’d pick MKG over Harrison Barnes.

I don’t care about the athleticism, it’s more about the mentality that MKG plays with. As you can see Gilchrist gets up for big games, that’s a valuable trait in a young prospect.

This really shows how special Kidd Gilchrist is he posts the second highest FG% including the big men and gets more rebounds per game than every big guy with the exception of Robinson who had the same.

I feel like this should finally end the Robinson vs Jones III argument as Robinsons’ production blows Jones’ out of the water.

This also makes me question mystery man Arnett Moultrie more as his numbers werent bad but werent that good either.

Davis shows why he is an elite prospect with 4.4bpg, 2.4 spg and 66% Field goal percentage.

Both of these guys are the type of players coaches love. Unselfish will do what’s ask not afraid of the big moment. For me, I describe Barnes as a Luol Deng type player and I look at Kidd Gilchrest as the type of role player you’d love having on a championship team he could help put you over the top. These are the type of guys that you surround a superstar with.

I see Barnes as more of a Glen Rice type guy.  I don’t watch a ton of UNC games(I’ve probably seen 5 this year), but everytime I catch one he seems to have much more potential as a shooter than a defender, like Luol.

Is nobody else impressed by how similar Davis’ and Drummond’s numbers are, especially considering Drummond’s are from 9 games, and Davis’ only 5. People who say Davis is the definite 1st pick need to look at these sorts of stats.

That is a good grouping of players. I would have Anthony Davis first and then a slight drop off to the next best big man Andre Drummond.
My third tier of guys is made up of two sets, wings and big men (mostly power forwards). For the wing players I have MKG, Rivers, Lamb, Barnes, Beal, and even Will Barton there. The only thing really separating these guys is need. I like MKG’s intangibles and Barnes shooting with Will Barton and Rivers being good all-around guards.

The big man group is made up of Thomas Robinson, Perry Jones, Arnett Moutrie, and Jared Sullinger. Again, these guys are all
solid it just depends on what you need. Sully is more established with Jones having more potential.

Then you have another drop off with 3 guys who are solid. If you need a point guard Kendall Marshall is there with Fab Melo and Tyler Zeller being solid center prospects, just not in the Davis-Drummond class. Then, there is another drop off to the rest of the guys who are either potential sleepers or projected role players with Kabongo, John Henson, Terrence Jones, and even Draymond Green being there. Outside the lottery these guys should all be great value picks.

So, I have Davis as the number one guy then Drummond a little bit behind him at 2 based somewhat on potential. After that there are 10 or so guys who are all right there with the deciding factor being the best fit. Then use late first round picks and second round picks to fill secondary needs and get role players.

If you want to include Barton than:
    Will Barton: 5 games: 19.6ppg, 8rpg, 1.8apg, 1.6spg, 48.4FG%, 33%3PT
