mikeyvthedonParticipantI was a little surprised no one has posted something like this, but when you start an "Association" in NBA2k11, they actually rate players by position and by how their actual overall ratings are by league standards. I just did it by position, up until the top 150 players. Well, how do you guys think that 2k has rated the NBA? I think there are obviously some changes I would make, and I will remark on them later, but I want to know thoughts and opinions. It is of course only a video game, but it is definitely an interesting gauge on the NBA.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantIt will matter more in Nba 2k12 when they update some of these players who had spectacular seasons and what they change everyones ratings at. But i’ve always thought 2k doesn’t always give credit where its due.

aamir543ParticipantAllen Iverson has like an 81 rating (without live rosters). That is crazy. But yes you do have to give them credit, they do a fantastic job. One feature I oved that they added this year, was that in the draft in association mode, you are able to make trades. That is sweet. I hope they add a sign and trade feature next year.

JunkYardDogParticipantIt doesn’t reflect the real impact of players on a team (on and off the court : winning attitudes, behaviour, collective work) as afflalo, noah, aldridge, billups…

mikeyvthedonParticipantThe ratings at the beginning of the year are wack. That is why I like the concept of Live Rosters, this was the first year I had them and felt they did a pretty decent job. Pau Gasol as the best PF over Dirk Nowitzki is obviously mental, as is Dirk being the 6th ranked PF in the league. I think Tyson Chandler should have been rated higher, he is definitely a top 100 player in my mind. You are right, Josh Smith is a big time video game guy, and Bosh being below Boozer is a joke. But, put in Dirk instead of Pau, and I think those are the 10 best players in the league, not necessarily in those exact rankings (Though that top 6 looks solid, with maybe Dirk squeezing in there).
Also, where would you put in rookies? One of the things I really want instituted in 2k12 (if it comes out) would be Player Templates. For instance, maybe have ratings automatically brought up of a similar player, so it would be much quicker to effect ratings and tendencies in creating players, ie for draft classes. I can post some possible templates to use soon. But, I have been trying to make the drafts as realistic as possible, and think I have 2011 pretty down pat. 2012 is getting there, but 2013 has a ways to go.
@JYD: Well, obviously, lol.

Tha King2121ParticipantI love playing association mode, I always make a team of crappy players that normally go undrafted in the association mode draft. play a 29 game season with them. and at the middle of the year I start scouting the players in the next up and comming draft. I play on the hardest mode and with a bunch of crappy players I normally end up the worst team, and have the first overall pick and get a dominate player.
Once I scout all my players and find out who is going to be good I get. You also have to do the workouts like 2 on 2 games to figure out whos going to be like 2nd round steals and good late 1st rounders. And trade a few of my players for 2nd rounders so I have 1 big player and an a few 2nd rounds that get a lot of minutes.
Play that season and basically do the same thing for the next year. I normally have an A team and a B team. The A team plays the 1st and 3rd quarter and the B team plays the 2nd and 4th. Both the teams are normally the same skill level. So basically my team is made up of all fake drafted players but its kinda fun for me. Lol most people will prob find this weird but idk I always do this.
And my bad MikeyV for saying you write essays and you should "summerize" < haha them, because I now no how it feels to write something long.

surveParticipantA lot of the guys you are naming like Dirk being underated is because this is an old update. I personally have not gotten around to Association mode as I play seasons. BTW, Josh Smith is good in the game overall like he is in real life, I think he is underated in real life as Horford gets more credit…on the game I think they have Josh just right…and you are correct, the Hawks are a great team to play with on 2k.

GrovesinternationalParticipantone problem i have is all the loaded draft classes are like 2003 with 5 players rated around 80 or up to 85. no rookie should really be rated 85 straight up. most rookies for a regular draft class have maybe 3 players that exceed 75 if its a good draft class. i am hoping for a mix of medium strength draft classes with positional strengths and weaknesses (strong PG class, weak PF class), and then a few strong (2003, 1996) and weak draft classes thrown in over the course of a dynasty (2000, 2011).
also the weaker players in the undrafted-second round range should have a large number of players that are particularly good at specific skills (goudelock=3pt shooting, bryan-amaning=athletic big) but with weaknesses or things that need to be developed, like real life. currently the undrafted-2nd rounders are all just pretty average at everything and just bad

OhCanada-ParticipantSo…Shannon Brown is a better player then Demar Derozan? Okay…but do they seriously believe Barbosa is better then Derozan? Luol Deng is stupid low, Dirk Nowitzki is low, Josh Smith is getting tooo much love, all the Lakers players are getting too much love, Pattrick Patterson on that list is a joke (sorry to sound like a bias Raps fan again) but Im pretty sure Davis had a better rookie season. Where are the guys who play great without stats or hype like Thabo Sefelosha, Nick Collison,Darrell Arthur, Regie Evans, Dejaun Blair, Tyrus Thomas.

GrovesinternationalParticipantthey need more attributes to do with attitude/leadership and such to separate veteran players from rookies in terms of ratings, because in real life a rookie may have more talent than a vet, but that vet is consistant, a good locker room presence, can read the game, and knows how to use his body.
three attributes that should be included are, 1) body control/use of body, 2)court vision, and 3) play recognition/positioning

providencefriars1ParticipantI remember in NBA live 07(almost positive on the year) they overrated rookies so much it screwed up the game. They had the two top rookies as Morris Almond and Josh McRoberts who each had a rating around 85 and if you simulated a game with them they would always drop over 30 points.

Dirk is vastly underrated, Kevin Love is an 82 overall, Steve Nash is like 83 or 85, D Rose only a 91, Deandre Jordan 66….guys have breakout years, it happens, but it has to be accounted for, if not by 2k, by us the users.

WestConfsOverratedParticipantA lot of the NBA 2K11 stats are off. For example, draft Wesley Johnson and he automatically makes the All NBA 1st or 2nd defensive team, and averages close to 2 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.
Or draft Terrance Williams, and he’ll get you at least 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
Pick up Nick Young in association mode and he’ll give you like 25 PPG.
I do like their durability stats though, I’ve never been able to have Yao Ming, Andrew Bogut or Michael Redd on my team without them getting injured a few times for 5+ weeks.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI can’t wait until 2K12 drops. I can’t even play with Dirk in 2K11. He doesn’t shoot like the real Dirk. I’m expecting 2K to improve that. As a matter of fact, Dirk should have his own shooting package just like Kobe, LeBron, Wade, etc. I mean, I’m expecting his off of one leg shots and everything.
Dirk is tough to rate though. He’s an amazing offensive player. However, he isn’t a great athlete nor is he a very good defender. All of his athleticism and defensive ratings are low. You have to really know the game in order to be good with Dirk because he can’t just iso, fly past defenders and dunk like LeBron, Wade, etc.
