The Pistons are the most frustrating team to cheer for in this league. We have been stuck in no mans land for the last 10 years. Never good enough to be a top conference competitor, never bad enough to get a top draft pick.

Here are some trades to blow it up and finally get a chance to bottom out and start getting some talent in the draft.

Blake griffin for Austin Rivers and Ian Mahinmi, 2nd round pick

Washington is the type of team that might be willing to trade for griffin in order to increase their chances of getting to the finals.

They dont lose any key players and get a potential top 20 player in the league.

Wall, Beal, Porter, Griffin, Howard is a ridiculously talented starting 5

Andre Drummond for Joakim Noah, and Frank Ntilikina, 2nd round pick

Joakim Noahs contract is the worst bang for your buck in the entire league. The Knick who are looking to impress Kristapz coming into a contract year, and their perennially angry fan base, get a star center in his prime. Drummond would complement them well.

This gives the Pistons a lineup of

Reggie Jackson, Frank Ntilikina, Stanley Johnson, Henry Ellenson, and Ian Mahinmi.

That has to be one of the worst lineups in the league. Definitely going to start getting top 5 picks.

Tank the next 2-3 years and hopefully get something worthwhile and exciting to build around.

I would trade Blake Griffin to the bidder who offers the best package of young talent and/or picks.
I then try the exact same thing for Drummond, if the team want both then fine.

Those 2 off your roster you aren’t winning much, I am a firm believer of building through the draft and this would 100% be how Detroit does it.

They are in that limbo position agreed upon not good enough to contend and not bad enough for a good pick.

The only players they have that they could use either for trade or to rebuild around: Blake,Andre D,Stanley J (Debatable though),Henry E and Luke K. The rest have no real value unless its to make up numbers in a trade or to take an even worse deal on but get an asset..

So they have two options: Somehow free up enough cap room to get a legit 3rd and maybe 4th option,if you don’t believe any other players on this team can be it. To pair With Blake and Andre.

    OR

Trade players away and hit Full Reset…

The problem with trying to trade their two best players Blake and Andre is this though: You are dealing with a very niche  market  that you  could actually target: Teams that think they are one piece away from either contending or just about contending or That they would actually fit on…

    Teams they could fit on:

    Andre D: Houston,Toronto,Milwauke,Lakers,NYK,Indiana,Chicago,Minnesota and Portland.

    Blake:Miami,OKC(if Adams was kept),Washington,Portland,Utah,Phoenix and Dallas(lol)

However the teams that would actually trade for them is the different story due to cap room or if they would actually see a legit fit..

It’s not a great roster. Teams aren’t really keen on giving up first round picks these days, especially for guys on big dollars. It’s more likely you need to give one away for someone to take on an ugly contract.

I’m not big on either Stanley Johnson or Luke Kennard. Id start trying to get at least one 1st rd pick and a young player back for these guys. It might mean taking on an unappealing contract.

Reggie Jackson is almost immovable. You may have to attach him to a first.

It’s one thing to overpay someone, but he’s got the keys to the car in Detroit and a crash is inevitable. Without adding a first, Id move him for someone with an equally poor deal, just making sure its not for a point guard. Someone like Vucevic or Tim Hardaway Jnr.

Drummond and Griffin are both on too much as well. They are good enough to keep you in NBA purgatory – draft range 8-16. If you can fix the rest of the roster they may work together. If not, look at Atlanta  a ssa model and start taking back 1st rounders attached to guys like Evan Turner and Chandler Parsons. It’s an ugly path though..

I don’t think Detroit would be able to move either Blake or Drummond due to the cap situation in the league right now. Both are signed long-term and have trade kickers at 8% for Drummond and 15% for Blake which was activated when he was sent to the Pistons. Teams probably wouldn’t want to commit that much money to Drummond until after 2019 free agency plays out and Blake is most likely untradeable at $35MM per year until 2022.

I think that Blake is the perfect big man in today’s NBA he just needs to be healthy. He’s a great passer and rebounder. He can drop 20 with ease his only issue is health. I think you roll the dice with Blake and Trade Drummond. I don’t think you give Drummond up for cheap either.

Drummond is the best rebounder in the nba. He is a great passer can score and improved from the line last year. Yes he’s slow but he’s still a talented player. I think a lot of teams would have interest in Drummond. Just to name a few hornets blazers raptors but a trade I think works for both is Miami.

Whiteside for Drummond. Miami Drummond fits perfect next to Kelly O not that it’s winnig you a championship but Drummond is liked among his peers and Miami is a popular destination. The Pistons experiment with a Whiteside Blake combo is intriguing. Whiteside makes up for Blake’s lack of D and Blake is good at the lob. He tossed DJ lobs in LA all the time that would really help Whiteside on offense.

Not sure if Detroit is down for a straight up trade but I would love Drummond on this team. His passing and dribbling skills would fit in Spo’s system since he also lets his bigman push the ball too like Olynyk, Bam, etc. Sure he’s on a 3 year deal as opposed to Hassan’s 2 year deal but it’s not like Miami is going to sign a big free agent anyways.
