Huge game from McDermott tonight.  His shot is pure, and he scores from everywhere on the court.  Everyone knows he has limitations (athleticism, defense), but as a shooter/scorer he’s lights out.

How good do you think he’ll be in the league?  What’s his ceiling?

I think he could be good, reminds me a bit of Wally Szerbiak (probably did not spell right). He is limited athletically, but he should have a successful career due to his shooting. I would say at best he would be as good as Wally, and at his floor Jason Kapono.

Probably the best comparison I’ve seen on this site.  I think he will be successful because he’s tough and he’s an elite shooter who can score at all spots on the court.  In the post, off the dribble, he’s the real deal!

I was thinking Kyle Korver but Wally is pretty much on point.

Wally was a good solid athlete by NBA standards and also a solid defender.

IDK but everyteam in the NBA could use a craftier Kyle Korver.

I pray every night that somehow the Spurs get him. Popovich’s system would make this guy an absolute stud.

He’ll never be an All-Star but he’ll definitely enjoy a 12+ year career in the NBA.

Ya I agree with pretty much everything that’s been said above. He will struggle in the paint against the length of the NBA, but he has the crafty YMCA type moves to be efficient when he needs to. Just like Korver, I think his bball IQ and hustle will make him a decent defender in the league. He has been working on that dirk (leg-up!) fade away and (as Steve lavin called it) the larry bird quick fade out of the triple threat stabs. I think both of these moves will work in the nba, to give him something else besides the spot-up shot.
Seth Greenberg called him a 15-20pt scorer with a long career in the NBA. I think 20 is pushing it, but in the right (pick friendly) system he can be a stud.

I forgot to mention I went back and looked at Rivals rankings for his class to see where he ranked, wasn’t even top 150.  Oladipo was 144th.

Can’t wait to see him drop in the draft and watch every team regret taking him. He should 100% be a lottery pick imo.

Szczerbiak has always played on the perimeter and sometimes even as a shooting guard. That’s not an accurate comparison. He also was a very versatile scorer and never much of a volume 3 point shooter. Many of his points came from pull ups in the mid range area, or mid range shots coming off screens, close shots after curls. He wasn’t a wizard with the ball in his hands but could shoot off the bounce and create some offense (mostly for himself). McDermott has always played as a 4 in college, he scores a lot on post ups and I think he projects mostly as a spot up shooter in the Nba. I don’t see him being able to do anything out of the dribble in the Nba. One thing they have in common, they both score a lot of weird close shots on cuts and transition. But Szczerbiak came in the Nba as a freaking 245 pounds wing and could overpower most SF and SG.

I think McDermott would have a long Nba career because he’s too good of a shooter and 3 pointers are too important in the Nba today. I don’t know how good, to become a solid starter imho he has to work a lot on his team defensive skills (helping from the weak side, rotations, communication etc) and on his ability to come off screens if he wants to develop into a 3. I see a Danny Ferry worst case scenario, shorter Ryan Anderson as a best case scenario (though it’s hard, Anderson is 6’10").
