Tyreke Evans = Brandon Roy

JJeff6ParticipantI dont see Derrik Rose as Dwayne Wade at all. I dont see OJ Mayo as Agent 0. i see derrik rose as more of a marbury than a wade.

td8118ParticipantDerrick Rose = Superstar, More Athletic Jason Kidd or Better Passing D-Wade….HOF Talent
OJ Mayo = All-Star….Gilber Arenas less explosive
Russell Westbrook = Perennial All-Star.. Rajon Rondo but better scorer…awesome talent
Eric Gordon = All-Star…good scorer
Tyreke Evans = All-Star…good player not great
Brandon Jennings = Pernenial All-Star…putting up better numbers as a rookie then i thought he ever would in the NBA…scary thought0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/13/2009 - 9:23pm #229615
gcb3ParticipantDerrick Rose- All-star (his speed actually limits his game as he will rely on this opposed to becoming more of a complete player. I see him as having a game more similar to Leandro Barbosa than D. Wade)
OJ Mayo- All-Star
Russell Westbrook- All-Star
Eric Gordon- Perenial All-Star (he is like Ben Gordon but with Westbrook’s athleticism!)
Tyreke Evans- Solid starter (eh, not sold on Tyreke yet…could be an all-star though, who knows)
Brandon Jennings- Superstar (maybe too soon to say this but I like Jennings chances the most out of this group)

THUNDERstruckParticipantDerrick Rose- superstar (kid got skills)
OJ Mayo- All-Star (ive heard it all but i think this is his ceiling)
Russell Westbrook- All-Star (he can go much further if he wanted..)
Eric Gordon- solid starter ( only a scorer not rounded at all and i dont think he will become)
Tyreke Evans- perennial all star ( this kid is the next d wade)
Brandon Jennings- [erennial all star (if he can stay of drugs and stuff and not become just like marbury off the court the kid will be special )

BasketBalAllanParticipantAnyone who compares Tyrekes current play and potential to that of Fred Jones has obviously not seen him play in the NBA, other than maybe a highlight reel or two from nba.com…
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/13/2009 - 10:54pm #229629
gcb3Participanthaha dude you gotta catch up some hoops history. Harold Miner actually has athleticism sorta like D. Wade. He was called Baby Jordan and even won a couple dunk contests if I remember correctly. Terrell Brandon was a 5″11 bolt of lightning, he could dish it and score too. He was sick before he got hurt. And I am guessing you didn’t know who Fred Jones was too–eh thats forgivable. He did win the dunk contest too one year though. Does anyone know if he is still in the league?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/13/2009 - 11:00pm #229632
gcb3ParticipantDude, my intent was to add a dose of reality to the ever grandiose comparisons we always hear; As I mentioned in my post I was comparing a player’s game styles. I do not think the players I compared them to have comparable statistics.
Obviously Westbrook has better stats than Miner who averaged like 4.0 ppg in the league. And Tyreke already averages more points per game than Fred Jones ever did. My intent wasn’t to be all matchy matchy with stats but look at players body, athleticism, and style and who they remind me of.
So thanks for your criticism Basketballallan but I can say the same for all the people who compare Derrick Rose to Wade and Brandon Jennings to Allen Iverson–do these people who make these comparisons actually watch basketball?
and btw i watched Tyreke in college and on the Kings. He had a rough start but has been playing well. I can see how he is a valuable asset to that team. But I still think he is the worst of the group of point guards mentioned, and I still think he has a game more similar to Fred Jones than Brandon Roy.

llperezi can understand the terrell brandon/jennings thing. But there is no comparison between either harold miner/westbrook or fred jones/tyreke evans. Miner had zero handles and never played pg. He also was not a good defender and might have been an even worse shooter then westbrook. You must be basing that completely off athleticism and not how they played. And Fred Jones never had tyrekes one on one skills or ball handling. He was also probably a better shooter then tyreke.

gcb3ParticipantFirst off, guys, I have NBA League Pass. I see all these players all the time. But let me once again clarify because I can see why some people might not agree on my comparisons.
The Tyreke/Fred Jones comparison was sorta a last minute realization–i laughed and I thought what the hell, he DOES sorta remind me of a young Fred Jones (minus the three point range)… and yea Tyreke is a better handler and will have much better stats especially considering he is starting for the depleted Kings–with Martin out, it’s a dream situation for a rookie to develop his game. And honestly I had similar expectations for Jones *even though most people probably didn’t even know who he was until after the dunk contest.
The Jennings/Brandon comparison I think is more easy for people to see. They have similar athleticism and skills and Brandon i think even played a year or two with the Bucks right? Either way I thought of Terrell Brandon immediately after seeing Jennings for the first time in the NBA.
Harold Miner sucked. Westbrook is awesome. I was mostly comparing their insane athleticism. But if Miner could handle better I feel like they would be similar. For instance, if Westbrook was thrown into the early 90s of the NBA he wouldnt get a sniff of NBA action–the dude cant shoot and turns it over quite frequently. We have different values today and who knows, if Miner played today and could handle better he would fare better than a Desmond Mason even– I think he would be similar to Westbrook.
Also, someone mentioned how Westbrook is a point guard. Look, Westbrook just happens to play point guard, but he really is a tweener and in most situations he would probably be better off to play off guard to a point guard who can shoot. Like if he teamed up with Steve Nash, Stephen Curry, or Chauncey Billups then the back court would fullfill all needs–shooting, running an offense, defense, and athleticism. Traditionally a player like Westbrook is not a point guard. The Thunder will soon realize their team will be a lot better if Westbrook plays the 2–they should have drafted Curry…
Anyway like I said before, my intent was to bring some reality to the comparison conversation. I wasn’t looking at stats, but just body types and how they move and use their athleticism.

THUNDERstruckParticipantive had my doubts about russell but he has shown some flashes of brilliance at the point at times. and although he looks lost at times and out of control resulting in a high amount of turnovers those are young man mistakes and yes i know it doesnt happen to every young point guard. but with his athleticism rebounding ability and some more experience russell could become a great point guard in this league. in his second season he has shown a lot of growth. he actually shoots the mid range shot quite well right now and if he continues to develop that he will be a perennial all star. he would be unstoppable. think cp3 with less court vision and handles.. lots and lots of ifs though lo,

trueone313detroitParticipantI like the Terrell Brandon Comparison with jennings. Jennings is more athletic and quicker with the ball, and terrell was better with the mid range game and passing. Westbrook reminds me of a young steve francis Minus the IQ. Both had hops, speed, and where tough. Brook has mad Defense and less handle. And if you want to campare Jennings to someone from the 2 G’s he has a game similar to Nate Robinson. Quick, Athletic, No J, But way bigger, and higher IQ.

*edit* okay, i don’t care about points, but I’m getting killed on this thread for a simple joke. He originally asked us how high these player ceilings were, and thus the “i’ve never been to their house” comment. Not exactly comedy gold, I know. But it was good for a little chuckle. I went from +4, then he changed it, and now I’m minus 9. Just wanted to explain that since it doens’t make any sense now.
