I found on this ^website^ some interesting verticle leap numbers .Now these numbers are standing verticles and in the article on the website http://superverticaljump.net/nfl-players-the-better-jumpers/ says NBA players are better on a run and jump. Test a 40 inch vertical leaper in the NFL in a run up jump and he will probably get 2-5 inches more, where as the NBA player with the 34″ inch vertical will get a additional 5-10 inches. This is based on the last 2 scouting combine reports for the NBA and NFL.
The first thing i noticed was Randy Mosses 51 inch verticle jumpwhich is justcrazy for a tall wide reicever .Then i noticed George Saint Pierres 48 inch vert and he is a UFC fighter
But talking about the NBA Wilt Chamberlain with a 48 inch vert!? He is 7’1 and he can jump that high !? Dam .I have also heard Wilt might have had a vert of 50+.But the most suprising thing is that Dwayne Wade isnt on that list and have heard that his vert is 36 inches but for some one who is 6’4 with a 36 inch vert he can freaking fly on the run.

NO EZ BUCKETSParticipantno way wilt jumped that high! his head must have been WAY above the rim every time he dunked! I’ve never seen him play but it still doesn’t sound very realistic

StF616ParticipantWilt also averaged 50.4 Points a game scored 100 points, grabbed 55 rebounds averaged 48.5 minutes a game(an NBA game has 48 minutes) It may seem impossible, but after he has done all of these i think we can believe this 48" vertical. Remember he wasn’t just a Basketball Player, he also did Track & field he high jumped 6’6, Long jumped 22 feet etc…. And he also played Volleyball.

WinterSoldierParticipantThese are not real measured verticals, there is tons of sites trying to sell a product that just completly make stuff up I have tryed searching for real verticals of basketball players and the fact is most of them(before the year 2000) have no recorded vertical so there is no way of knowing what there vertical really was.

jazz270ParticipantThose numbers are totally made up.
I’ve watched a lot of the dunk specialists, and they have tremendous hops……But anything over 40 inches is suspect. There may be a few guys who get in the middle forties, but it’s very rare. LIke many things, there are different ways these things are measured. Some 40 yrd times are taken when the runner starts, others are taken when reacting to a gun. It makes a huge difference.
Think about it. If Wilt had a four foot vertical, his head would be a foot over the rim when he dunked. I’m probably one of the few guys here on this site who actually saw Wilt play live, and while he was an incredible athlete(he was a track and field star too), he didn’t have a four foot vertical. That’s ridiculous. I’m not sure what his actual reach was, but I suspect it was about 9’5"(he had very long arms), that would make it so he was way over 3 feet above the basket when he dunked. Sorry, that didn’t happen. I saw maybe a hundred of his games live, and while he could really get up there for the time, a 36" vertical would be far mor realistic..and even then it might be too much.
Over the many years the combine has been measuring veticals, only a few players have ever gotten above 12 ft, and then only barely. IF the four foot vertical was true, Wilt would have been able to get way above 13 feet. It didn’t happen. I’d believe the 20,000 women thing long before I’d believe that four foot vertical…..And that legend is a load of crap too.
Think about that, and then think about those other numbers.
Baloney.

jazz270ParticipantFootball players do have tremendous hops, I can testify to that. I played pickup bball with a cornerback from the U of U who had a brief career with the Cardinals(St Louis back then), who could really sky at about 5’10" inches tall, he could easily dunk it with both hands….but over 30 years of organized and pickup basketball, he was the best leaper I ever saw….and I played with several NBA players over the years in pickup games.

WizardofOzParticipantThere’s this 5’4 dunker named Tone, and they think he’s the shortest dunker in the world, and he throws down some crazy dunks. I’m taller than him (5’7″) and can’t even touch rim (but I’m only 15).
Wouldn’t you have to have like a 50 in. vertical to do this?

llperezi see they have jameel pugh listed at 50", i doubt that. He was listed at 47" in college. But guy had some great ups. I watched him a few times at sac state Vince carter said that some of his dunks from the 2000 dunk contest were stolen from Pugh. Pugh was the only sac state player to ever be invited to compete on espn’s dunk contest.

Lotto StudParticipantThat 5’4” dunker is going so have serious knee problems in the near future……He always lands on the same leg when he comes back down….it’s only so much his body will take after awhile.
