The Sixers were stunned when Holiday fell into their lap at No. 17 in the June draft, and after a few days of camp you are starting to see why. Holiday is by far the team’s best ball handler and the coaches have raved about his natural defensive skills. The 6-foot-4 Holiday is showing signs that he may be ready for a significant role, a surprising development for a player who in his one season at UCLA was forced to play out of position at shooting guard.

“He’s more point than I’d like him to be,” Jordan said. “He gets in the lane so well and he could easily go up against his defender and take the shot. But he’s looking for a dime and he’s looking for a draw-and-kick. He’s got a terrific learning curve. He wants to be good and he’s doing it the right way. He loves to pass, loves to defend — I mean loves to defend. We think he’s a little bit of a secret weapon.”

it was clear watching him at ucla at that he was best suited as a pass first pg. He just played out of position and his skill set didn’t translate well. I watched him in the summer league and he does a lot of things well including breaking the press at will, getting into the lane and defending. He needs lots of work on his shooting and finishing in the lane though. I think Philly will be very happy with him. I thought he was gonna go top 10. I’m not sure I like the Westbrook comparison though.

Royal Ivey 2.0…he looked bad in SL too when I watched. They played Terrence Williams at point when I watched one game because he was so ineffecive. He’s just not very talented offensively, but he can be a defensive specialist.

Hell no, Holiday is not ready to start at all. He should play at most 15 minutes a game.

We can say what we want but if Jordan thinks he can produce then obviously Jrue is doing something right. There was a reason he was rated as one of the top 5 players in 2008 just because he had a bad year playing out of position doesn’t mean he isn’t good and suited to play the pg position in the nba.

He’ll get PT, but he’s not a starter. That’s what Im saying. He’s a defensive role player, who is an unspectacular PG. Essensially a Royal Ivey or Eric Snow type player…

Snow idk….I seen plenty of Jrue’s games in hs being I lived right by him and I just wish he wudda stayed one more yr at UCLA to show everyone what he’s capable of at the pg position. Hopefully he doesn’t end up as a Snow or Ivey type of player because he has such a good skill set

His skill set is just about the same as their’s, except he’s a slightly better shooter (not saying much) than those 2 and he isn’t the playmaker that Snow used to be.

i can kinda see the eric snow comparison, but that would be like if Jrue never really got any better. He is only 19 years old. Plus he is way more athletic then Snow was, I saw a couple nice dunks and plays in the lane where Jrue would hang in the air and double pump. The tools are all their.

That’s very true, that’s what Holiday would be if he didnt get better. A comparison of what his upside is like is Delonte West.

West is a good comparison, very similar on D, both hawks. And both have some potential on O, but I like Holiday’s Pg skills much more than West’s

Their PG skills are about the same to me, especially when you compare them at the same stage of their careers. West wasn’t a PG either because of Jameer Nelson back in the day. But Delonte can run the point effectively now, about at the same level Holiday will be able to run it. Solid but unspectacular. I mean, when has Holiday ever made a pass that made you say “Wow, how’d he see that?”…

i don’t think so he just doesn’t have the heart and isn’t very aggressive Westbrook is a very aggressive player he can still be a pretty good player though.

Holiday has the potential to be a really good pg, he is capable of doing multiple things well on the court and has an improving jump shot, he can and probably will be better than Delonte West

A PG generates offense by being a threat to score
and thus drawing double teams
his upside to me is Chauncey Billups
another 6’4 guard who can post up and
has the strength to bully smaller PGs
the downside of this is that “Mr. Big Shot”
couldn’t find his jump shot for years
until Detroit that is

That was a good video of him, but all college guys make plays like that man against HS competition. That was nothing spectacular. Except 1 or 2 crossovers and the between the legs bounce pass.

I think Delonte West is the best comparison, he is nothing like Chauncey Billups at all. He’s not big or strong enough to bully anybody in the NBA, that would take much more time in the weight room. Holiday just isn’t very talented offensively.

you have to realize that this is just practice and that most coaches rave about there rookies and players before the season starts..i dont recall any coaches saying a rookie wasnt at least a pretty good player during there preseason practices. another thing is hes not going up against any starting pg while in practice. the best hes going against is lou who granted is a pretty good and talented man but isnt on the level of some of the other pg that holiday would be facing night in and night out, who know the lil things it take to be a good pg. untill i see holiday prove hes a actually pg( didnt in his college and didnt look so hot in summer leauge) then im not gonna jump on the bandwagon

How is he like Delonte? I get the defense thing but Delonte is a shooter before he is a slasher. That is the exact opposite for Holiday. He cant really shoot but he can get to the rim. They are the same size and all but Holiday will never be a SG like West because he cant shoot. West has always been a SG and learned to play the PG when he got to the NBA. Holiday has always been a PG and thats where he will play. They are defenders but out side of that, I dont see the comparison.

actually west played alot of pg in highschool back in maryland and a lil bit in college..he actually has played more pg in his basketball career then holiday..i think hes like delonte as far as how his career will go in my opinion

Thank you, Delonte West wasn’t a really good shooter at 1st in the NBA, he developed that and he was much more of a slasher at St. Joe’s in college. They are eerily similar.

yes they are pretty similar. its funny i recall me and kurtis on here talking about how we dont believe in holiday yet and everyone swore we were haters now people are starting to understand where we were comming from when we said he didnt show that hes a future all star pg as some have said

Yea, I had like 80 points when I 1st got on here, and then I talked about how Holiday and Rubio weren’t going to be good players and I had like -20 when I woke up the next day…all I could do was laugh and wonder what everyone saw in them.
