Assuming injuries aren’t an issue going forward for either player, who has the higher upside/skillset/career in your opinion between Karl Anthony Towns and Joel Embiid?

Well if injuries didn’t exist, Embiid.  But since they do, and by the time Embiid sees the court, if ever it will have been close to 3 years since he played an actual game, and never an NBA game.  It’s KAT hands down and it’s not even close.

Expecting anything out of Embiid at this point is quite optimistic.

In college he had those moments during a game that just made me say "Wow".  I believe he would have been special had it not been for the injuries.

He had very little basketball experience prior to the injuries.  Going so long without playing when you are already so inexperienced.  Pile on the crappy work ethic and unfortunately I think Embiid won’t make it very far past his rookie deal.  I see a very Oden like career ahead of him, but probably without the Chinese resurgence.

I’m guessing it’s Embiid – He is Rudy Gobert w/ a polished offensive game – …… it’s actually scary to think what he could accomplish if he plays……… & all reports from Durant’s surgeon (who was part of the surgery) are that Embiid will be 100%…… So I guess We’ll see next year……. The way Okafor & Noel are kicking the hell out of other team’s front courts…… It blows your mind to think that Phila might be bringing on Embiid, Saric & two more Lottery picks next Fall….

How do injuries have anything to do with upside?

Upside is how good a player can be if everything goes well with him.

Embiid definitely has more upside than KAT for the simple reasons that he has all of the same skills, plus he is a better athlete, and is at least 3 inches taller with much longer arms.

KAT measurements I think were 6’10.25 barefoot with 7’3 wingspan, and Embiid was measured at 7’1 in shoes, and a 7’5 or 7’6 wingspan.

However, since then Embiid has apparently grown 2 inches. So he is around 7’1.5 or so barefoot, and his wingspan has probably grown as well.

KAT has elite size for the PF position, but Embiid has elite size for the center positon, with MORE mobility, coordination, speed, and hops. Skills wise they can both do everything that you would want in a bigman.

Plus Embiid probably has the edge in terms of competetive nature as well.

I agree with you for the most part, except I think KAT definitely plays with more competitiveness than Embiid does. He plays with an edge, and KG will only encourage that

i saw him play in the hoop summit, and I thought he would be the #1 pick, over Okafor and Mudiay.  I remember being impressed by Russell too.

For people to question Towns work ethic on a stacked Kentucky team kinda baffled me.  Would you rather have Towns, who does everything beautifully, or someone like Randle who makes bonehead plays but plays aggressive?

I mean, you see little flashes of brilliance in Towns game.  Those little hints is what makes you get all giddywith excitement.  Obviously its teh same with with Embiid.

I just hope he can come thru, and Junkie, I hope the surgeon report is accurate.  Where did you read that?

I was reading about the Material that was used in Kevin Durant’s bone graft… It was a non FDA approved genetically engineered material pioneered in Medicine for people who have issues healing properly…. This surgeon repaired K.D.’s foot on his 3rd surgery…. So Phila went out & re-assesed everything they did last year regarding Embiid’s health…..

One aspect was bringing in this surgeon to assess if Embiid needed this non FDA approved material to successfully Graft his broken foot bone… This guy was in the room during surgery…. & basically on stand by if they needed to go that route…. I learned this myself w/ the multiple cancer surgeries I had & that is until they open you up, they really can’t be 100% sure what is going on inside any person….

So according to this surgeon, he claimed that he was extremely conifdent about Embiid’s recovery…. He claimed that Embiid’s foot was in far better condition than K.D.’s b/c he was getting "great blood flow" to the area… He said that in a lot of these foot issues…… a person can not get proper blood flow to the area so the bone is never able to heal 100%……  & that is why they created this non-FDA approved bobe material…. (I keep describing it that way b/c I don’t know any other way to describe it)……

Anyway, this surgeon claimed that b/c Embiid’s blood flow to that area was so good & the bone looked great…. & they did Not even need to use that artificial bone material they used on K.D. – & that they were able to harvest bone from Embiid’s own Hip & graft it to the foot to actually thicken the foot bone….  increased thickness was doubly important b/c apparently Embiid has grown to a full 7’2” since the 2014 Draft… & they were concerned that he could grow even more…… & that added growth could affect the foot healing……

We’ll see what happens….. I ‘d like to see what this guy can do…. Wiggins & Parker look like outstanding prospects & heading into that 2014 Draft Cleveland was going Gaga over Embiid & supposedly not even considering anyone else….

They are both excellent players that can literally do it all, its just Embiid is more raw.  And his work ethic is questionable.  He is just one of those talents though where I think the game is going to come easy to him, especially at the NBA level.  Brett Brown was saying he is the best shooter on the team.  The between the legs dunks I don’t see Noel or Okafor or antoher 7’2” guy pulling off.

On that note, let me say that I seen Ben Simmons work out.  The guy does everything beautifully, easily, as it should be done.  Liek with perfect symmetry.  Blakeney is doing the same workouts and looks like he struggles, whereas Simmons is this engine that does everything perfectly.  The fact that Simmons is ambidextrous probably contributes.  Man if Simmons can develop that shot, he is another well oiled machine.

If Simmons lands on the Sixers, with that winning mentality that he and Okafor have, with Noel and Embiid, and then Saric and maybe Murray, it will be beautiful.  Simmons as a ball handler driving to the hole and then dishing it to the bigs or finishing for himself, other teams without that size would just be helpless.

watch Murray and Simmons play together in the hoop summit, those guys just had an awareness, just like naturally knew how to play the game together.  Its that extra feel-thing.

Anyway, Let’s say they both Towns and Embiid reached their peaks, avoided injury, and played for years.

I think Towns would be perennial all-star, and Embiid could be an all-timer.

Towns is maybe a KG C-Webb type, and Embiid is an Olajuwon.

Embiid if he still remembers anything about basketball. He’s been out a while and he hasn’t played that long. A few years. It’s not like he has 15 years of motor memory like most of these guys.

I don’t think you can properly evaluate embiid without taking injuries into consideration. He is going to miss 2 full years of development and he was already very raw to begin with. His physical tools are amazing but I have serious questions if he will ever be able to avoid injuries long enough to actually make an impact on the court. Hes just too big of a question mark right now. Towns, at worst looks like a guy who will be an impact player for a long time and still has a ton of room to grow. If you asked me this question a year ago it’s embiid easy, but right now I’d say towns without a doubt.

I am Dominican so I specially like KAT. Always had him as the top prospect of the class but when you’re comparing him to Embiid, unbiased, as I’ve said before Embiid is the best prospect I have ever seen together with Anthony Davis. I take Embiid. He was the type of prospect that would sky for a block like Nerlens Noel in one end, run the break like Anthony Davis, and post up score like Okafor….. all after only 2 years of playing basketball?

KAT does have more competitiveness nature though, and could be what possibly would make him better than Embiid.

Karl Anthony Towns is playing better now than Embid would be now if he had never been injured.  KAT has a feel for the game Embid could only dream of ever having.
