It just takes a quick glance from the boxscores to the standings to see that a rediculous amount of teams are tanking hard on this last day of the season. Sitting 2-3 of their starters and best players regardless of how they are playing. Teams like New Jersey, New Orleans, Toronto, Portland, Philly, Cleveland. Is this what their fans really want to see on the last game of their season? Should the NBA step in and put up warnings and punishments for teams they decide are blatantly throwing a game?

"Have we ever seen this much blatant tanking?"

for real. this year is like you can clearly see teams are tanking.

    there’s more… warriors…

this says something about this year’s draft

The fans that buy the $500 front row seats care about winning now even if it means it’ll take longer to actually contend. The fans like myself and others fans on this site that know we can’t win without a bonafide franchise player, or know we need this years lotto pick completely understand that it is neccesary to tank. We’ve blown several draft picks, but we’re in a good position with some really really good talent, and if we get some lucky ping pong bounces, we could be looking at a Davis Lee Bogut frontcourt. Unlikely, but possible.

Soloman Alabi? Wow, the only place I’ve ever seen him is in 2K, lol.

I just looked at the box score for Nets – Raps.

…… The Nets started none of their starters… Raps started none of their regular starters.

Are you kidding me? Half these guys were in the D League at some point this year. I would have demanded a refund.

Solomon "Who the F is that" Alabi had a double double of 11 and 19!

But the ccombination of excessive resting players due to the schedule and quck playoff turnaround and tanking due to the loaded draft has turned this inro one of the worst weeks of the NBA talent wise. And I’m not kidding, just look at the Miami Boston boxscore from earlier this week. There were 7 all stars on the rosters(guys that are sort of current All-Stars to an extent, you know what I mean, the big 4 and then the big 3) that played a combined of 18 minutes, all to Paul Pierce. Sasha Pavlovic was the leading scorer in that game. Sasha Pavlovic for heavans sake! Kobe is resting tonight, the lotto teams are tanking so badly, 75% of the rosters are D-League guys, I mean seriously.

^That’s because a loss today garuntees us to be slated as a top 7 pick.

^Yes it does and the reason I said slated is because one of the 8-14 teams could get a lucky bounce and get ahead of us, so if we lose today that gives us a 90% chance of keeping our pick, that is if the lotto tiebreaker is head to head record witht he team with the losing head to head record getting the higher pick, which we would own over Toronto.

Thank you Patty Mills, 16 points today halfway through the second keeping the Spurs alive, they’re only down by one but are shooting 42% from the field compared to my dubs’ 50%.

Nope. It would come down to a coin-toss. 50/50 chance.

^Oh, thanks for clearing that up, in that case we’ll probably lose the coin toss and get screwed again, and won’t be relevant till like 2017. My team’s front office sucks. Damn.

New Jersey, Toronto, New Orleans, Portland and Cleveland yeah they are tanking but how can you say Philly is tanking when they made the playoffs since they’re not a high seed they can’t rest their starters or its tanking

I gained some respect for the Kings tonight. They sacrificed a few ping-pong balls to both give their home fans a show, and work towards instilling a winning culture in Sacramento.

Or they could be trying to keep their seed at eight to face the Bulls instead of the Heat. I just think that if a win has the chance to move you up then you should go for it.

Wow i carried the team on my back tonight…..

    34 points, and 12 assists.

And to think Popovich thinks Parker is better than me……

Put that in your juicebox and suck on it!!!1

Winning 6 in a row definetely can’t be accused of tanking. I hope teams that have blatantly tanked like Cleveland and Golden State don’t get rewarded by good draft picks.

I take it no one here likes the NFL?

Adrian Petrerson’s leg got destroyed in a meaningless regular season game.

I’d sit my star players too for the las 2-3 games at this point. Why risk a significant injury?

Well CLE in 2002-2003 and San Antonio in 1996-97 are probably the two most blatant tankers of all time and the NBA rewarded them….so I’m not holding my breath.

Contrary to popular belief… Tanking doesnt work. I think these teams are just crappy teams. This is why they are at the bottom of the table. When was the last time the worst team actually got the 1st pic?

I think they are putting in their "sub par" players just to see what they can do. This is done all the time in " garbage time"

Toronto and GS flip tomorrow at noon for 7-8 place for record. Each team adds their chances up and divides them in the draft proper, so the 7th and 8th pick have the same chance of moving up.

Even then, there’s a chance that the team with the 7th best record slides to 8th or 9th.(Teams leapfrogging)

If there’s any fairness in the world, GS will lose the pick to the Jazz. The Jazz will then pick a player who will be the star of the draft, winning the Championship in 2013, while Bogut and Curry will get hurt again, and now the Warriors can tank without trying, as they usually do. Mark Jackson, aka the LOSER, sat his PG and SG for most of the second half, including ALL of the 4th quarter. So despite the Spurs looking really bad, GS eeked out a win….er….loss.

    The NBA, where LITTLE happens.

^Disgusting? Try being a front office exec, and you’re still a bad team, but like 12th pick bad, not top 7 bad, and you have to explain to your fanbase that you didn’t do everything possible in your power to go and get your team the top 7 pick it sorely needed? You have no lotto pick to show for it? Man that’s messed up.

I don’t get it, it’s not like there is a Lebron James or clear cut star in this draft.  Anthony Davis could be an elite defender, but this is kinda crazy.

    1) These teams SHOULD be tanking. It’s the smart thing to do.

    2) The raptors are not tanking…. Dwayne Casey has done a very good job this year. If the raptors were tanking we’d be at least 3rd or 4th worst record. I’m pissed that the raptors didn’t tank properly this year.

    3) It’s late in the season… playing your best players makes no sense when they’re banged up. Plus, you want to give your young guys playing time. (and if I was paying $500, I’d rather see interesting and energetic young guys than a bunch of tired and injured guys anyway)

GOLDEN STATE: I think it’s fine if they’re going to tank, but they really cut it too close and should have gone all in. Tanking, only to end up losing the pick anyway, is just assinine.

Portland isn’t tanking. All the players that didn’t play are hurt. Plus they almost beat the Jazz on a buzzer beater three. Heck Matthews was foul on the play too.

Yes!!!!!!!!Yes!!!!!! We won the coin toss, we’re now slated as the 7th pick, we have a 12.6% chance of landing a top 3.6% chance of landing the top ick, and a 72.5% chance that we keep our pick. Pretty good odds if you ask me.

^Exactly, it’s the players job to go out there and go hard on every play, but once again, the Front Office has a fanbase to respond to, and if the team continues to middle around the 11-14 picks and is never bad enough to get a franchise player or good enough to contend, that’s not good. It’s the Front Office’s job to make sure their team has the best opportunity to succeed in the long term or short term, and that’s either contending now or later. If your not contending now, how do you conetend later? By getting good draft picks, and you get that by losing more. It’s not a good system, but that’s the way it works, and if you want to keep your job in this buisness, you have to do everything possible to get that franchise guy, even if it means starting Mickell Gladness. If you were a GM I’m sure you’d try to tank rather than middle around get th 12th pick year after year.

The draft lottery was brought in to try and stop blatant tanking but it still goes on and also teams with nothing to play for may hve a look at their fringe guys to maybe help decide if they have a future with the team.

Players have aways sat out a game if the team is in the play offs and it cannot effect their seeding, this is nothing new.

The only way around this could be to do a bye for some of the top seeds but that could still be settled with games remaining and I doubt the NBA would in anyway reduce the play off schedule as it makes money.

    No, some GMs have integrity.

The Pacers built their team through the late-lottery, and they’re starting to see results.
