As we all know… The Kings have completed a blockbuster trade by traded Greivis Vasquez, Patrick Patterson, John Salmons and Chuck Hayes to the Toronto Raptors for Rudy Gay, Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray.

FACT: Since acquiring Rudy Gay the Sacramento Kings are 1-4. Lets break down the stats of each game…

    December 13 – Phoneix Suns 116 – Sacramento Kings 107 – Rudy Gay’s Debut
    Rudy Gay: 24 points, 1 rebounds, 1 assists, shot 8 for 12 = 67 FG%

    December 15 – Houston Rockets 91 – Sacramento Kings 106
    Rudy Gay: 26 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, shot 10 for 20 = 50 FG%

    December 17 – Charlotte Bobcats 95 – Sacramento Kings 87
    Rudy Gay: 4 points, 3 rebounds 1 assist, shot 1 for 6 = 17 FG%

    December 18 – Atlanta Hawks 124 – Sacramento Kings 107
    Rudy Gay: 22 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, shot 8 for 13 = 62 FG%

    December 20 – Miami Heat 122 – Sacramento Kings 103
    Rudy Gay: 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, shot 7 for 13 = 54 FG%

Overall Rudy Gay’s stats are: 18ppg 3.2 rpg 3 apg while shooting 50% from the field

So the ultimate question is… Have the Kings actually improved?

Do you really think this question is even answerable at this point in time? It has been 5 games…

Give them a chance to play together for a while first (and I dont mean 5 more games…) and we can discuss the trade in depth at that time.

Alright, we will discuss this trade after the all-star break and see how the Kings are doing. Sound good?

Still, I think it’s fun to re-assess our positions at the time of the trade with the limited additional information we have.

Personally, I like the team makeup better now than I did immediately before the trade. I felt that way when the trade happened as well. However, Gay’s .500 shooting is going to come back to the mean. I will be shocked if his % with the Kings is above .450 by season’s end. Having Cousins taking so much of the D’s attention is a huge boost for his efficiency though and I expect it to remain above his career .411 average and well above his abismal % he carried in Toronto.

Wouldn’t call that a blockbuster trade.

Defensively no, they need a rim protector in a bad way. Surprisingly they are alright offensively, but their defense is god awful. Isaiah Thomas, Cousins, and Gay are shooting rather effeciently, sadly their defense at this point has to be the worse in the nba, and until they improve on that side of the floor they will continue to struggle to win games.

Gay has been more disciplined on offense, but that was foreseeable, he has been traded twice in like 10 months and his reputation is as low as possible, so he has to do something if he wants to get a good contract, this year (unlikely at the moment) or the next one.

I agree it’s hard to say anything after just five games, but I don’t have great expectations. They were very bad, they’re still going to be bad. Maybe a little better, but I can hardly see the point. Why would you win 30 games instead of 20 and sacrifice cap space to that purpose?

It’s too early to say, but I don’t think this is a playoffs like team. It comes down to defense. Cousins is a terrible rim protector. Put one next to him, then what, have Cousins guarding the other team’s pf? I think this, trying to win now objective, will fail. I think they should have traded Cousins while his stock is high. Other teams out there will give up a lot for him. Think PHX, actually competing, I could see them giving Len, plus picks and cap filler for Cousins. Rebuild around McLemore and Len.

Wait wait wait…so you want the Kings to trade a legit franchise big man(my opinion) who is having a monster year for Alex Len(who hasn’t done anything at all for the Suns), a pick that will probably be lower because Phoenix is actually playing well, and cap filler? No offense but that is just an awful trade for Sacramento. Cousins might not be a monster on defense but it’s not as if he is the weak link on defense. That defense as a whole is playing like garbage.

Cousins is in the top 20% of players in both defensive rating and defensive win shares. He may not be an elite defender but he is improved this year.

I’m sorry, but what the fuck. You think the Kings would trade a 20/10 big man who is top 5 in the NBA in PER for a rookie who’s averaging 1 point per game? If Len were so great, he probably wouldn’t be buried on the bench behind Miles Plumlee.

I actually think Rudy has played really well. You know you aren’t getting a defensive player or a play maker….you need other guys to do those things on a team with Rudy Gay.

Sac is the ultimate "what if they played in the East" team. There are a few like Memphis and Denver who would undoubtably be playoff teams. I honestly don’t know in the case of the Kings what they would look like. But in the West, that schedule is just brutal, they have no rim protection, and have a roster filled with new parts. The good new for them is they still will have a top 8 pick even with this trade.

The Raptors are 5-2 since getting rid of Rudy Gay, including an epic come from behing victory @ OKC today.

The Kings are 2-4 since acquiring Gay.
