Olowakandi had bust written all over him but the clippers were really the problem. he could have been a decent center maybe a bk up center for many years had he gone somewhere else.

i rmeber him. in college he was actually pretty good. its easy to say now he would be a bust and that has more to do with where he was picked because he had some nice numbers for a season or 2.but thats a risk you take when you are dealing with a mid major.they could end up to be good but they also have bigger bust factors then someone who plays in a major conference

I have indeed seen Whiteside play, and he is quite a talent. Once again, however, I feel that people are letting their excitement get the better of them. Here is what I have seen: Whiteside is a crazy athlete with a ridiculous wingspan. He runs the court extremely well and has excellent agility. If he could ever develop even a semblance of post footwork he could be unguardable (the way KG was in his prime). Unfortunately it is easy to say that only based on his physical skills. He has no handle to speak of, no advanced post moves (although he has a decent looking baby hook). He also shows a decent looking jumpshot. In the few games of his I have seen, I’ve seen him knock down a handful of 15-18 foot jumpers, showing a really high release that few if any college players could even hope to get to. On D he is an amazing shot blocker. His timing is so good that I have seen him literally cup the ball in the air and toss it back out. At that point just catch it man!! His post defense is another story. He is so thin that when he goes up against other NBA caliber athletes he might get badly exposed. He needs 20 lbs + to be able to bang and he needs to learn play position D instead of always trying to recover with a block. All in all a totally different player than Kandiman. More of a center version of Brandon Wright. I like, but not nearly as high on him as this site. His triple doubles? Against Brescia (Ooh, Brescia!), and Central Florida (hardly a powerhouse). We shall see.

Good point about the triple doubles. Jarvis Varnado had one against Arkansas, and was a block or two shy against Vandy and Bama. Cole Aldrich had one against Dayton in the tourney. Whiteside has a lot of potential, but competition should be considered when looking at his stats.

Saw him play the nationally ranked UTEP Miners about a week ago. This guy can play. He has better offensive moves than I imagined and his defense was causing problems for the Miners. UTEP has Derrick Caracter and Arnett Moultrie both NBA prospects and Whiteside was still getting it done. I think he is right now a better prospect than Thabeet and he went number 2 overall.

yeah both of those big men right now are second round prospects.. i also watched that one..thats the first game i have seen. liked his game but chrisp is on point with his scouting repor. the guy does need weight and work on his man to man defense

Oh JoeWolf, I watched Varnado’s “triple-double” against Arkansas…here’s what happened.

He had 14 or so points, 11 or so rebounds, and 9 blocks. Closing seconds, a Razorback drives into Varnado and shoots. He jumps into the Arkansas guy and doesn’t touch ball at all, it even showed a different angle on the replay and the commentators said it wasn’t an official block, but they ended up listing it as one.

I saw him play the second half against some random team and i was quite impressed.. he made his presence known on the defensive end and rebounded with ease. on the offense end he hit a couple beautiful sky hooks against a 6’10 guy and looked comfortable handling the ball on the perimeter….hopefully they televise his conference tourney games other than that this guy is pretty much the real deal

Marshall will play the winner of Tulsa-Rice (i.e. they play Tulsa) on Thursday at 7:30 ET (6:30 local time in Tulsa) and the game will be on CBS College Sports.

If they beat Tulsa, they would likely face UTEP on Friday in a game that will also be on CBS College Sports.

lol, He became kind of infamous on this site somehow, even before I posted on here very much, I mentioned him last spring before the draft and got a ton of replies, mainly jokes. He pretty solid in college because of his size, but had no altheticism and is kinda goofy looking. I would describe him as a mid-major Bryant Reeves,
