Pacers_Fan33ParticipantWhats the word on this guy, came out of school as a project, shortly after that it looked like just another big with all of the size and none of the talent. Now he is doing some good things for the heat who need a guy like him. I haven’t seen much of him during this recent stretch, but whats the consensus from people who have watched him lately? Is he for real or what?

GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantI remember about 4 or more years ago (whenever he came out) there was a big debate on just how good he is/would be. There were many who felt he could be a very good starter. It hasn’t looked good for those guys but he had been tearing up the NBDL and now he has let the NBA know he has arrived. Only time will tell if its just a mirage or the real thing

sheepish_moParticipantHard to say at this stage but he was really good today. Has looked pretty good the last few games actually, pretty soft touch around the rim and seems to rebound and defend at a decent level.

True_JafiParticipantI don’t remember Alonzo Mourning being a unwanted big man! Was a very good player at Charlotte. Good finisher and great rim protector so can’t compare the 2

John Henson’s MuppetsParticipantWhiteside at one point was projected by this site to go #1 in draft in one the very early mock drafts. Excited to see what he can do with what appears to be a prime opportunity.

nateoak10ParticipantHe came out of nowhere and was ranked as the top pick then fell out of the first just as fast as he arrived
He’s always had defensive talent and the physical tools, it was just the mental aspect and his offensive game that was really lacking. But if he ever got a good offensive game he was going to be dangerous. Miami may have just lucked into a up and coming young center.

barbabodomParticipantHe was playing for the D-League team affiliated to Memphis, the Grizzlies should have picked him as a 3rd big

the I in winParticipantI was a big fan of him when the hype hit when he was a marshall and projected #1, I liked the high post skill (fools gold for him) as well as the physical profile/athleticism (that is still very real). When I saw he had a 11,10 and 5 block game I got excited and watched his next game with 10,8, and another 4 blocks. I didn’t see him match up with Aldridge but he did ok on Kaman for a couple plays and was better than the young Meyers Leonard.

mcsfaced1Participantguy that really should of stayed in school and came out his junior year, especially as a big man just like Leonard,u see what the guy from Georgetown with the 76ers is doing he stayed and graduated and he looks like he will be a decent starter in the association.i wish there was a option like how you have with foriegn players 2 stash away players from the states and it wouldnt count against u

OhCanada-ParticipantIm so glad I picked him up in my fantasy league when I did 4 games ago. Finally got to watch him play against the Clippers and this dude is for real there is no fluke about it. It would be one thing if he was playing Luke Henson and cheating for blocks and steals just using athletisism to box out but he is doing this with straight fundamentals. Whiteside plays great off the ball on picks and dives to the basket. It seems like all of his buckets are either on assist from great off the ball movement or on putbacks. He destroyed the Clippers and made it look easy matched up against Jordan. Watching him play you can tell the fundamentals have seriously been pounded into his head to the point where when he blocked a shot and did not keep possession he would get very disappointed.
Ball IQ is one thing he may not naturally have but after being sent to the bench after bonehead plays his whole pro career it seems he knows the difference between right and wrong.
Sacramento, Toronto, and Memphis spent very limited time seeing if he would fit into their system l. I understand Memphis not being able to nurture him into a backup C role although Toronto and Sacramento have to be shaking their heads for letting him go. Especially since Toronto has guys like Steisma and Nogieura in that role and the Kings even gave Bhullar a contract.

DolanCareParticipantThere are a lot of Hassan Whiteside fans on this forum. I’m pretty sure 8 Deadly Sins was fond of his game at some point. Hard to disagree, he had all of the gifts for a number one overall draft pick… just couldn’t piece it together.

XYRYXParticipantReally funny to see this read after what was written here in his draft profile and early mock draft back then.
I don’t expect anything out of him but the Heat need a guy like him. Lets be honest, the Birdman isn’t the same anymore. It’s like every time his is involved in rim battles he ends up holding a finger or feeling pain somewhere else. Hassan has incredible length. That doesn’t make up for his lack of bball iq but man is this guy a huge body moving around!
I’m to follow this story in Miami for sure now!

HitsterParticipantGood to see him finally getting a run in the NBA, his hype was based a lot on him developing in college. I think Aran had him number 1 on the next but one draft at the time but he declared a year earlier than anticipated and he never really got a look in.
If he can remain in the NBA then it would be a good comeback story.
