RUDEBOY_ParticipantMany fans thought Dumars would use the money from Allen Iverson’s expiring Contract to make a pitch for 1 of the free agents fom the 2010 class..But instead used the money in 2009 to sign Charlie V & Ben Gordon…2 talented but Streaky Offensive players that dont play defense..Something the Pistons are known for are being a great defensive team…
The last 2 drafts have they’ve selected 2 promising players in Greg Monroe & Austin Daye…What can the Pistons do to make this season successful?

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantThe Pistons need to move players and start over. They have 3 legit pieces to me in Monroe, Daye and Jerebko. Keep them and time to move players. Here’s 3 deals I think they should do.
Richard Hamilton Trade- http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=29am3uu
Tyshaun Prince Trade- http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=29w3o5v
Are both those deals likely? Maybe. But for the Pistons to look for a way out of these deals is to be shrewd.

ChewyParticipantPistons will suck for a couple years while contracts are running out.

tjc23ParticipantThe pistons need to trade Richard Hamilton, and Tyshaun Prince for two first round draft picks. Then there starting line up could be
PG-Rodney Stuckey
SG- Austin Daye
SF- DaJuan Summers
PF- Jonas Jerebko
C- Greg Monroe
In the summer league Summers Averaged the most points with 15.8 that is why he should be a starter Daye averaged 15.7 points. Ben Gordan and Charlie Villanueva can come off the bench. The pistons would then have a deep bench and a soild starting line up.0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 7:42am #366741

RUDEBOY_Participantlol..dude u would start austin day at shooting guard? lmao!!!
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 7:46am #366743

JNixonParticipantNo way is Summers ready to start. That guy is a big-bodied shooter who can’t handle the ball well at all, is a bad/stiff defender, and looked to score nearly every time he got the ball in SL. He scored well last SL too, but he dominated the ball, and he’ll NEVER be allowed to dominate the ball in the NBA. He can be a rotation player sometime down the line, but he’s not a starter. Not even on a bad team like Detroit.
The same things go for Daye. Daye can shoot the ball and has the ability/potential to play 3 positions, but he’s not ready to start until he toughens up, plays less selfish, and GETS STRONGER. He also won’t be allowed to dominate the ball in the NBA like he did in SL.
You have to know what to take from a SL performance before you anoint young, and re3latively raw players like Daye and Summers starters. Neither is ready to play a big role.

OhCanada-ParticipantHe got them a ring by making these kind of moves so at the end of the day he still has his word cut out for him. He tried to force another Dynasty type Pistons Franchise instead of accepting the fact that the peices were no longer available and it was time to rebuild.
Dumars trading Billups for Iverson was looking like a rebuilding step in the right direction, but instead of rebuilding he got tricked by some rumours and agents to bite on Charlie V. and Ben Gordon and give amazingly dissapointing long contracts. The Pistons are stuck with jams at nearly every position. The team just seems unable to co-exist and instead of getting role players to compliment starters the Pistons stacked up on the best talent available and thought throwing them all out on the floor would result in wins.
The only way up is down for the Pistons. They need to find a way to get rid of Gordon and Villanueva just like Toronto got rid of Turkoglu and is getting rid of Calderon. If they want to suceed they will have to admit their mistakes, correct them and move forward.
POSSIBLE MOVEMENT
Right now they just need expiring contracts and cap relief then to rebuild through the draft wisely around Monroe, Stuckey, Daye and Jerebko.Ben Gordon would fit in nice on Sacramento and the Kings have Dalembert on an expiring contract. If they can somehow find a way to send B.G. for Dalembert that would give them a consistant C.
Charlie Villanueva is a tough case due to his inconsistant play but his talent is deniable and if he finds the right system he could make his 8 Mil 4yr deal worth it. I think C.V. would thrive in a fast break system like Indiana’s and a trade for Dunleavy would be good for both teams. Detroit would have to throw in some more talent thou due to the money Indiana would be taking on so add a G like Terrico White and I think it is a good deal for both teams. Villanueva could stretch the floor well for Hibbert and replace Murphy as a long range big going forward.
Im sure many teams are interested in Prince and Hamilton and moving those two players to contenders for young talent and cap relief should not be difficult at all.

joecheck88Participantu mean joe dumars isnt reading this thread right now? and i thought we were all making a difference in gms decision making. its called freedom of speech moron, if people have opinions they have a right to say/write it. besides nobody told you to read it.
anyway, detroit seems screwed for a few years because i cant see a team taking gordon or charlie v in the near future unless the can throw one in with princes expiring contract. they need to draft well and get rid of contracts.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 8:20am #366766

TRC1991Participantthe biggest mistake joe dumars made was hiring john kuester…also he drafted 3 small forwards in last years draft (jerebko, summers, and daye)
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 9:32am #366811

esperanzafleet69Participanthow was john keuster a mistake??? if they had flip saunders coaching i bet the iverson experiment would have gone a LOT better…

Malik-UniversalParticipanttradin rip will be very hard…. tradin tay will be i think a lot easier of course of his contract
the pistons have a solid foundation of young guys, but our defense is sub par and were not very tough team at all
dumars needs to show everythin he has in his bag of tricks rite now
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 10:21am #366856

TRC1991Participantesperanzafleet
did you not see the lineup Kuester used for the majority of last year?
it involved jason maxiell and ben wallace as the starters in the frontcourt-both happen to be about 6’7”
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 10:24am #366857

OhCanada-ParticipantYou guys dont get it. Rip and Prince were starters on a championship team years ago. They are perfect for a rebuilding team to provide leadership and and Prince’s contract is expiring anyways so he isnt a big problem at all. Gordons 4yr48mil contract and Villanueva’s 4yr 30Mil Contract are evern worse considering the roles they are given and emergence of young players liek Daye, Sumemrs, Monroe, Jerebko, White, Stuckey.
They need to correct their mistakes.

0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 11:08am #366868

llperezdumars is screwing up. I say this every time, but trading billups for cap space the same day he gave rip hamilton a huge extension was mind boggling.

IndianaBasketballParticipantJoe Dumars used to be smart.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 1:06pm #366924

sheltwon3ParticipantDumars got lucky because a lot of the players he picked up were not either no brainers or initiated by the other team. Rasheed Wallace from Atl for nobodies is luck. Washington Wizards trading you Hamiltom for Stackhouse and I believe Washington brought that trade to the table. Ben Wallace just happened to be a good fit and a guy a lot of teams had but never kept. Detroit was not his first team. Rich Carlise was a solid coach. They drafted some nice Euro guys. They had Mike James on the bench. The signed Billups who showed promise but was not a big time addition but all those piece fit together. After Carlile they got Larry Brown. They drafted Prince and he developed quick. Dumars has made more bad moves than good.
He has to know that starting over now is what to do and he need to move Prince and possibly Hamilton. Hamilton will be harder to move but you have some desperate team like Cleveland that could bite.
Also determine if Stuckney is key to your future and keep him or let him go. I think you can move Stuckney and try to get Eric Maynor from OKC. White is similiar to Stuckney. Daye should be the Small forward, Euro dude the power forward and Monroe at the Center. Monroe is taller and I think longer than Ben Wallace so I think he can make that work despite his average athleticism.
I am looking at a line up of
pg Eric Maynor
sg Ben Gordon
sf Austin Daye
pf Jonas Jerebko
C Monroebk
Wallace
Charlie V
Summers
White
Will Bynumand whomever they get from the trades
Without including those players this is a solid 10 guys
Moving Hamilton will be hard but moving Prince, Stuckney and acquiring Eric Maynor should not be that hard

sheltwon3ParticipantTrade to move Prince and get Eric Maynor
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=23jfqfq
Possibly trade to get rid or Hamilton and add Jamison
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2cvb3d2
Possible Stuckney trade along with Wilcox for West’s contract and maybe a pick or something
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2eduwmp
another possible trade Stuckney to Indiana for Jeff Foster
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=259yfes

Da1potParticipantYeah he messed them up…… Frickin Rodney Stuckey is their franchise player!!!! And BTW you cannot use a summer league performance as an excuse to start Daye , Summers and evem Jerebko for that matter(who is a role player and nothing more)
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 3:54pm #366986

sheltwon3ParticipantDaye has actually looked great in two summer league and pretty solid in preseason but did not get enough minutes in the regular season and Jerebko played really well as a starter. Summers has potential but you are right he has yet to show much outside of summer league but he should be able to do some damage with extended minutes.

FDAPOPistons have some good young guys but this team is so far away from contending its funny….
They need a superstar on top of the team they already have and I don’t ever see that happening. None of these young guys they have will be anything special. Pistons fans praise Rodney Stuckey as if he’s a franchise player….. Stuckey isnt even a good 3rd option at this point in his career and that would probably be his ceiling is a 3rd guy…
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/02/2010 - 5:48pm #367032

PlatypusParticipantStuckey needs to learn to shoot that would help the team more than people think. they play off him and dare him to shoot like teams do with Josh Smith. if he learns how to shoot he’ll be a good 3rd option and 2nd on a non championship team
