ronniemiller1kParticipantI dont really keep up with highschool basketball or college really but as a nets fan after losing john wall ive been hoping to see a glimmer of hope in some upcoming prospects. im pretty adamant against them trading away their future for melo and to me theres a couple of one and done guys that are looking to be pretty special…harrison barnes at the top of the list….so i guess my question is HOW good can he be and is the potential of getting melo and losing draft picks worth giving up a possibility to get this kid?

WizardofOzParticipantThe Nets didn’t lose John Wall. When was the last time the team with the best chance to get the #1 pick actually won the lottery? It was 2004, and it has only happened a total of 2 times. So every has a chance to get the #1 pick. It is totally up for grabs. Just because your team has the best chance to get him, doesn’t mean that your team will automatically win the lottery. He’s on my Wizards now. GO WIZARDS!!!!
I don’t think the Nets will have a high chance to get the #1 pick in next year’s draft. They are much more improved this year. Even though they overpaid for a lot of their free agents, they made some great acquisitions. They drafted Derrick Favors, who has high potential, acquired Travis Outlaw, Johan Petro, Jordan Farmar, and IMO the best 3-point shooter in the league, Anthony Morrow. They are in contention make the playoffs, but I don’t think they make it. If they don’t make the playoffs, the only way they get the 31 pick and draft Harrison Barnes is if they get some lottery luck.
The Nets have a bright future and I don’t think they should trade that much to get Melo. The Nuggets would want draft picks, some of their young talent, and possibly Brook Lopez. That is too high of a price to get Melo. Melo plus no big men is a recipe for mediocrity. The Nets wouldn’t get the job done in the paint and they’d be too good to ever acquire a good enough big man in the draft.
Barnes is a great prospect. IMO, he’s a rich man’s Luol Deng. He has a similar frame, is a good shooter, and average ball-handler, but has a great work ethic and high basketball I.Q.. He’s just very good at every aspect of the game. He seems like a player that is never satisfied. He’s going to keep working hard until he’s better then everyone else. I think he will be a special player in the NBA.

HitsterParticipantThe Nets should improve vastly from 12-70 last year but I still see them being a lottery team with anything above 30 wins a bonus. Where this would shake them out in the draft lottery I don’t know but I would think they would probably not look for another big man next year or a PG unless they took a BPA approach so an SG/SF type player may be their preference so if they cannot get Barnes or Perry Jones then the likes of Alec Burks, Kyle Slinger, Rodney Williams and Terence Jones may be on their radar.
I fully agree they go long term and look to rebuild via the draft and maybe one major FA signing in 2011 or 2012.
