valentineI think this guy is the real deal and doesn’t get the recognition he should have.. I think he’s absolutely a max player and I don’t think the warriors will be able to retain him next season.. so they better win a chip this year, because I feel like the league will all try to overpay their bench and role players because of the system they are playing in puts them in a position to succeed.. Anyway, do you think Barnes is the real deal or is he a product of a system? Can he be a star and a number 1 option on another team? Discuss..

ncballerI am not sure about being a number 1 option. His lack of flexibility in his hips really hinder him in regards to creating for himself and others. This makes him predictable off the dribble, although he has a good first step. However, he has a high basketball IQ, this season he has really figured out how to play to his strengths, which are posting up, hitting the mid range and slashing when the opportunity presents himself. He plays good defense, and is good for the big poster from time to time. I think he can be a high level second option.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantHe needs to get back to 35%+ from long range before I touch him with a max contract. While he’s a good player, I think right now he is a system player. He can’t create off the dribble for himself or others at a high level, he has a decent step back jumper in the midrange, but thats a skill of a bygone era and a shot a lot of teams will let you have. If he can prove that his 40% from deep last year wasn’t a fluke and that he can be a reliable marksmen I’d be more inclined to give him a large contract, but for now he is a good 3 and D player, that excels in this particular system. If you were to give him 35 minutes a night and make him your number one option, I don’t think he would excel.

Mr. HookShotParticipantAt the moment the Warriors have the deepest team in the league in terms of quality pieces from the bench. Ezeli would start for plenty of teams, Iguodala completely changes the game when he enters, and Barnes can dominate on the offensive end in stretches next to guarding the better wing players.
About Barnes, I stated this before: the Warriors might want to trade him as the chances are small that they can afford him in the long run. If they could get a solid return veteran to replace him plus a first rounder they can replace him on the long run. A team like Denver makes sense (Chandler plus swapping a first rounder?). Even though they might not want to mess with the chemistry, doing so likely means they’ll lose him at the end of the year.

circumlocution75Participant"Big Money" b/c he’s a 23 y/o lights out SG….. & they don’t have a single player on their team that can hit a 3 point shot….. I don’t think Beal will go to Phila… But Beal makes more sense than Barnes….
Barnes had a great game last night…. I watched the 2nd half & it was an Amazing game…. but GSW had 5 guys shoot 50% or Higher in that comeback – FIVE! Barnes, Iggy, Klay, Draymon & Curry…. they are really an Amazing team….
And while those 5 were blitzing the Clippers during that comeback I would say that Barnes was #5 on the list of those starters that the Clippers were worried about… He’s a good young player…. But he’s Not a "Max" player….

tuck243ParticipantI wouldn’t pay him that much money and with all the wide open shots he receives he better off staying in GS. A lot of his success is built off open shots (which he misses a lot in recent years). It’s rare he get buckets while being the focus of the defense. You take that risk, you better be sure. And I’m simply not sure about Barnes until the years end at least.

Memphis MadnessParticipantHarrison Barnes is a Core Guy.
I always compared him to Sean Elliott. Well, I think he really LOOKS like Sean Elliott.
Elliott was a 2nd or 3rd option. He could get you 17 or 18 a night. But, that is not the same as being a guy who can get you 25 a night.
If you are a young team who needs a small forward or even a contender that needs an extra piece, I would go after Harrison Barnes.
Right now he is basically the fourth guy on the Warriors, which is a PERFECT spot for him.
He is in an ideal situation right now. Hard to find a better fit for him.
The Grizzlies would be another good team for him. He would be a fourth option here with Marc and Mike as the top two options then Z Bo as the third option. Barnes could score and open things up with his 3 point shooting.
But, that would be like going from the Dream Team to a rec league team.
Barnes would be CRAZY to leave Golden State unless housing costs in the Bay Area are even MORE EXPENSIVE than I thought they were.
Dude has a shot at a 4peat.
He is still young.
Sign the deal with the Warriors. Win a few more titles. Then after that he could chase some money — going to a contender that can use a highly paid, floor spreading small forward.
Barnes is 23. He is GONNA GET PAID.
The Warriors basically have 3 max players right now in Steph, Klay, and Draymond. You can STILL pay 4 guys and Barnes is the fourth guy.
In a couple of years, Bogut’s biggie contract, Iggy’s biggie contract, and Jason Thompson’s semi-biggie contract come off the books. I think they will pay Barnes over Bogut and Iggy. Ezeli will get PAID too. So maybe they split that Bogut money. Iggy isn’t getting any younger. I think he would take a smaller deal once his current one is up.
The rest of the NBA should pray that the Warriors forget that you actually CAN pay 4 guys.
What I think they do is pay THREE MAX Contracts, pay Harrison Barnes darn good money, then wait to see what they can resign Ezeli, Bogut, and Iggy for.
Ezeli might be the bigger contract headache.
They are already paying Bogut big money as a center. So, what are they willing to pay for Ezeli?
IF they can lock up those main guys long term: Steph, Klay, Dray, Barnes, Ezeli, Iggy, and Bogut, it’s basically over.
Ezeli might be the back breaker here. Especially if another team makes a Godfather offer for Harrison Barnes.
I can see a team throwing $10 million a year at Ezeli. I think he is pretty good, and centers are getting PAID, especially young, mobile centers who can rebound and defend.
The only thing that can beat the Warriors right now is the salary cap.
But, like Barnes, Ezeli is still really young, and will get paid no matter what. SO, maybe he signs a 4 year deal on attractive terms, then looks to his NEXT deal to really get paid.

Greek-BallerEzeli is really really good, he doesn’t have the opportunity to shine in GSW.. Just look at him when Bogut was out.. Dude is a starter and a big men, people will throw alot of cash at him that’s for sure..

omphalosParticipantBarnes can make that Jimmy Butler jump to stardom with more opportunity.
He’s getting better every season, adding more to his game and they are going to him more often this season as a half-court shot creator.
I could see any number of teams offering him a max deal, especially if they win another chip.
Barnes is ambitious, he’s not content being a 4th option for his prime and will sign with another team unless GSW maxes him out immediately.
