cheetosjalapeno17ParticipantHassan Whiteside just put up a monster triple double with a 19 17 and 11 blocks. He’s a free agent after this season and the heat don’t hold his bird rights. I also listed to one of Zach Lowe’s podcasts with a guest from ESPN and the guest said that Whiteside wasn’t a “Miami heat kinda guy”. So if the heat don’t resign him what team snatches him up. He can choose any team and I’m sure a lot of teams will offer him the max since the cap will rise. What team gets him? I’m thinking either the Lakers cause they have the most money and they have no chance at KD so I’m guessing Whiteside is the next best option. I’m thinking maybe the rockets too, they may look to replace dwight with a younger Abd better option. What do you guys think?

SubZeroParticipantI think the Lakers have a great chance, and even better if they get Simmons

Mr. HookShotParticipantDo the Rockets even have cap space? I can see the Lakers throwing money at him, or the Celtics considering their current pieces would fit Whiteside nicely.

XYRYXParticipantAfter the Mavs missed out on Dwight first and on DeAndre later I can see them at least trying to add him even if Zaza plays well and might be an All Star this year lol

Hype MachineTheres a lot that can go wrong for a team that offers big $$ for Whiteside.
Advanced stats, including defensive rating, are actually quite damning. The heat are worse with him on the floor offensively & defensively.
He could easily go off the rails.
Hes regularly injured.
I wouldnt want my team offering him a max. Hes Ok on a cheap contract…but Id look elsewhere for lower risk options.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantI wouldn’t offer him a max contract either, but I’m still trying to figure out where you found the advanced stats not in favor of him (unless I misinterpreted your post). According to Basketball Reference, Whiteside is currently 3rd in the league in defensive rating behind only Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard. He’s also 3rd in the NBA in defensive win shares and 2nd in defensive box plus/minus as well. Put that together with his staggering block numbers and efficient field goal percentage and very good PER. Again, I wouldn’t offer him anything close to a max contract either and just like you could easily see the rails falling off once he gets paid, but his stats this season are pretty darn good all around.

I’m not 100% sure but it might be connected to this article I read a little while ago. I think I can link to FOX from this forum right?http://www.foxsports.com/nba/story/miami-heat-hassan-whiteside-d
well my link doesn’t seem to work…just try googling "There’s really a big fluke with Heat’s defense and Hassan Whiteside"

Hype MachineBut the article I read stated:
Opposition points per 100
– Whiteside on the floor = 102.5
– Off the Floor = 92.3
So a huge difference.
Great article called: ‘Why heat are better defensively without the NBAs best shotblocker on the court".

What does it mean that he’s not a "Miami heat kinda guy"
He’s blossomed with the Heat, he obviously has an integral role within the team, Miami is a beautiful city, with gorgeous weather, lots of culture, and no income tax. Who was this guest from ESPN and where did his info come from?

cheetosjalapeno17Participant"He is absolutely not a heat player, his style of play, his personality, the way he goes about his business is not congruent with the way the heat do things" he also mentioned that the heat will have a hard time maxing Whiteside and Wade if Wade asks for the max.

ReturnofthelemonParticipantWindhorst must know very little about his situation with the Heat then. Down here in South Florida, Whiteside shows nothing but love for the organization and absolutely zero signs of not being a Heat guy. Maybe his style of play I guess?

Greekballinwade would be dumb to ask for the max at this point in his career and the Heat would also be dumb to offer him the max.. The Mavs could offer him the max, hell, they went after Deandre hard, and I’d take Whiteside over Deandre

ExumInfernoParticipantDallas was my first guess.
Is he from North Carolina, assuming Big Al is gone then the center spot is there for Whiteside and they can put shooters at power forward like Kaminsky and Williams.
Lakers have so much money to spend, and will want to sign a big name or two.

DrivingDownTheStreetinmy64I think Riley wants Wade to remain in a heat uniform until he retires!!!! And With the cap going up this summer!!!!!!Wade signing a 4 year 80 million dollar deal at the same 20 million dollar rate he got last summer sounds reasonably cheap!!!!!!!!!!

HitsterParticipantWhiteside is 27 years old this summer and this will be his first big NBA deal so I’d guess he’ll look very favourably on the best offer he can get. Miami also have a load of players out of contract this summer including D-Wade and Deng, so who knows what Pat Riley might try to do.
If Miami offers Whiteside 5 years which are guaranteed or at least a player option in his favour then I guess he stays there. Lakers may well go in for him and they may be better really making a play for him if they think they can get him rather than trying to lure KD.
Boston have a need for a defensive anchor big and have cap space and as an improving teamk might appeal to Hassan.
Portland will have a load of cap space too and would have Lillard to feed Whiteside so they could be in the mix.
Charlotte will have cap space if Al Jefferson moves on and the Pacers could use most of their cap space on a bid for Whiteside too. At Charlotte he’d have Pat Ewing to work with and the Pacers could offer a competitive young roster for him to jump on.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantI like your list Hitster. I think Boston or surprisingly Portland will be among the best fits for Whiteside in the event he decides to go. He needs penetrating scoring guards in a quick paced offense to be at his most effective. This reason ironically is why I don’t think he deserves a max contract despite his stellar play for the Heat. He’s just not a guy that can get you buckets eight or more times a game. He is a role player that feeds off the first two or three options on the team doing their thing, so he gets to roam around and create havok on defense and every so often on offense. I really don’t think Miami wants to pay him the max, but unfortunately for them they are not in a power position in this case. Heck, I think Whiteside may have slightly more leverage than Wade if he continues or improves his current level of play. That fact makes me a little sad frankly.

HitsterParticipantMiami have Bosh and Dragic on mega money deals and I think D-Wade will likely be Miami for life (happy 34th birthday today D-Wade) but they aren’t a young team anymore and other sides might offer Whiteside a better long term chance to be on a legit contender.
But as Hassan has never had a big contract before, I still think a lot could come down to money. Any team pursuing him may look to give him a player option for year 3 of any deal so could get another salary hike before he was 30 or more likely his agent may push for that on any deal.
I haven’t looked to see what a max deal for Hassan would be worth as he has been in and out of the NBA but I think he could reasonably expect something at about $14 million plus a year based on what Robin Lopez, Kanter, Tristan Thompson etc got last summer.
