what are some examples of guys who should have came out of school earlier and entered the draft. Guys who saw their stock drop the longer they stuck in college. There’s a good chance these guys would have failed in the NBA regardless, but at least they would have gotten drafted higher and made more money had they left sooner while their hype was still high.

One guy that comes into mind for me is Toby Bailey. His fresman year he started for the national champion bruins and dropped 25 points in the title game and was being considered a potential lottery pick. 3 more years of school later and his stock dropped considerably and he went 2nd round.

I think Roy Hibbert would have been a top 10 pick in the 2007 Draft… But he decided to pursue one more year in college and suddenly his draft stock came tumbling down… He did, however, managed to be chosen by the Raptors (trade to Pacers) at the 17th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft… He could have been 20-25 at best in the draft…

Chris Thomas of Notre Dame, who was undrafted, should have came out as a sophomore. He would have been a top 15 pick.

Terrance Morris of Maryland should have declared after his sophomore year. He would have been a lottery pick.

Randolph Morris should have followed DHowards lead and went straight to the pros. He was ranked just behind him as a high school senior and would have been a top 10 pick no doubt about it. Ended up going to college and never got drafted and signed on as a free agent. Missed out on a couple dollars i would say

glen davis would have been drafted a lot higher if he would have went in the draft the year they were in the madness and went on a run with him and tyrus thomas(who got drafted fairly high). He stayed in school and his team never made the tourny and he got drafted lower.

You guys remember 7’1” 290 pound Western Kentucky center who was pegged as the next Shaq? If he would have left after his sophomore year he would have been a sure fire lottery pick. He put up 17, 12, and 3 that year, but he decided to stay and now 5 years later very few people probably even know who he is. I think he struggled with alcoholism too.

marcus williams from arizona should have left after his freshman season instead of his sophomore season, and james white who end up spending 5 years in college.

I disagree that Glen Davis would have been drafted higher. The reason he went back to school was because his draft stock was extremely low.

all of these are good answers but i especially like the james white, chris marcus, and joakim noah answers.

James White- would have been considered a player with tremendous upside if he would of came out after his freshmen year. for better or worse, somebody would have taken a gamble on him in the lottery

Chris Marcus- He absolutely would have been a 1st rounder, NBA loves size and he could move for a man that size. Too bad he stuck around and injuries did him in.

Joakim Noah- Not a big Noah fan, and not that it hurt him too terribly much but he probably would have been a Top 3 pick if he would have come out after the first title. His stock was never higher. Fortunately it has worked out in the long run and he landed on a quality team with a bright future

Was on the same team as Chris Thomas at ND, who also should have left after his freshman or sophmore year. Francis was a beast down low and mobile for a big. Instead he stayed and let injuries and weight slow him down. Him and CT are tearing it up overseas now. Used to blaze with both of them.

Everyone has some good picks. I would also like to add Miles Simon, Thorton for Arkansas. Jamel Thomas maybe should have left early. Also sorry DHamp, Glen Davis would have gotten drafted higher if he would have come the same year as Tyrus Thomas. The good thing is that a second round pick that everyone knows is that good has a better contract situation.

Little known fact, Jamel Thomas of Providence led the Big-East in scoring his last year. He’s Sebastin Telfer’s older brother. So some reason, however, everyone calls him Marbury’s younger cousin.

He was best served for coming out this year I believe…he broke out his junior year out of nowhere (even though he’s always been a decently well-known great dunker) and if he wouldve declared he would’ve faced the possibly of his season being considered a “fluke”. His senior season was a good indicator of how good he is.

ya the fluke factor would’ve been around his name. but because he stayed that extra year, he’s now 24. being picked 36 seems like a big steal…but age was the reason he fell that far.

Connor Atchley of Texas, dude was going to be drafted and now he went undrafted after a Horrible Senior Season. James of Texas as well because he went from Low Lotto-Mid First Round to having to stay one more year. Budinger is another like you all said already. I can’t really think of any others besides the ones mentioned…maybe Reddick? I don’t know if he any higher stock, but still people might’ve thought he had more potential.

Naw, I doubt it very seriously. But he possibly could’ve, given that the SG/SF positions were top heavy.

Conner Atchley definitely shouldve declared for the 08 draft. I thought he did, no one even mentioned him last year! He disappeared, maybe the emergence of Pittman and Johnson had something to do with it. Both are physical and strong and probably leapfrogged him by banging him up in practice.

Nope, then people questioned the way he played and said maybe he was successful due to playing with Players like Augustin, Durant, and I believe Aldridge…definetely Pittman did take him out as well as Gary Johnson, but I think he figured he’d improve with more responsibility,, but others stepped up

arkansas won it all in 1994, williamson’s sophomore year. they beat duke. he also won most outstanding player in the tournament that year. he came back his junior year and they lost in the championship game to ucla. he saw a decrease in most major statistical categories (despite a slight increase in playing time), including a drop in FG % of more than 7%. like i said: he should have left after his sophomore year.
