bcdee21ParticipantCurry seems unguardable. I just wanted to see what you guys think in the best defense to stop(if thats even possible), or at least limit Curry’s production?
I was thinking of running something like a box/diamond and one defense. I know the nba almost never runs zone, but at some point you have to try something. I was thinking the thunder would be best at running this due to their length and athleticism. And they could rotate between westbrook, roberson, and foye (maybe waiters or singler) denying Curry. It would allow them to play way up on Curry’s shot and have better help on the drive. The only reason I dont like the thunder trying this is because have been horrible on defense this year and I feel they would not have the communication, effort, or discipline to rotate and help correctly(this is coming from a thunder fan. our defense is horrible to watch). I would have chose the spurs because of their discipline and coaching, but i think they lack the athleticism.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantNot so much guarding curry but guarding the other 4 guys. Box or diamond would get killed because everyone can shoot.

Hype MachineThe offense doesnt run through Curry. It runs through Green and Bogut until such time that Curry is free’d up via a series of screens.
The cliche applies that you can’t stop him, just contain him. So I’d do what any good coach would do…find tape of games where the opposition slowed him down to sub-mvp impact.
The key isn’t about having length as much as it is someone who can get around screens quickly and not give him an inch of space. You need a defender who has a high motor, plays physically and gives 100% effort chasing him around.
He’s too quick and agile off the ball for bigger players, so players like Chris Paul, Mike Conley, Marcus Smart, Patty Mills and Dellavedova have proven to be more successful. Say what you want about Delly…but Curry was only the 3rd or 4th best player in that series and was completely ineffective for a couple of games. Other games he was his usual great self.
Guys like Westbrook who gamble too much, or low IQ defenders like Irving are suicide. And I rarely see Curry get his shot blocked or altered so putting someone with greater wingspan seems ineffective if they cant keep up with him on the floor.
Realistically, if you can keep him to 25ppg, without fouling, on slightly lower fg% and slightly higher turnovers…you’ve done your job.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantAll you have to do is get up in his grill, and he won’t effective. Just ask Oscar Robertson.

HitsterParticipantI wonder how someone like Gary Payton in his prime would have handled Curry.

CasualCeltCeltics seem to play the Warriors as well as anybody, with guys like Avery Bradley and Smart making his life hell.
The first game this year went to double overtime, and the Warriors lost the next night for the first time this season. The next game will be April 1st, where the Warriors home winning streak may still be going.
