valentinewatching this game a couple of thoughts i already had before the season became even more clear. gani is a very very good player and is the teams best option on offense with as well as best rebounder and defender. and 2 although favors is a good player hes defense is lacking and his limited offensively. every game he gets quick fouls because he just cant slide his feet or goes for simple pump fakes. with all that said he still plays pretty well but i far from the dominate player some of ya’ll predicted before the season. people seemed to have forgotten how good of a player gani i and seemed to over look him and thought he would be a second option as soon as favors came onto campus…as far as the game it was a blow out of course with boston being 1-4 with a bunch of guards and there big men being skinny 6’7 guys. next up is all powerful mercer..lol..they may have the worst schedule out of any ranked team in the nation

hotshotschampParticipantI thought he played great.
He had 14 pts, 10 rebs, 2 blocks, in 21 minutes. You’re right he needs to cut down on the fouls a little bit, although that one foul he got was a clear block ( blown call).
What I like best about him, he never forces anything, takes smart, calculated shots, thus why his FG % is so high. He doesn’t just chuck up shots, he plays within his team, a very cerebral player.
I like how he plays defense, and his boxing out is very good, using those long arms, to help him collect the rebounds.
I honestly think his game resembles Tim Duncans more than Amare Stoudamire. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying he’s another Duncan or on his level. But when you look at his footwork, his low post moves, his boxing out, shot blocking ability. He plays more like him, than a high flying Amare.
Lawal is a decent prospect, good player, probably a late 1st rounder, but Favors if he was a junior and getting minutes like Lawal would be putting up gaudy numbers. He simply has a much higher basketball IQ, is better in virtually every facet of the game than Lawal.
I came away MUCH more impressed with Favors than Ed Davis as far as big men go. Favors is gonna be a good player in the NBA, I have no doubt.

ball4life66ParticipantAgreed how many times are you going to post about Favors? I know you’re just praying he doesn’t have a good game. I like the Tim Duncan comparison…I think Favors has been compared to every big man in the NBA..lol

SDEParticipantQ Haynes i agree
Smh at all the John Wall bandwagon dudes now that he look like he can’t be stop. Also i think ed davis is suffering from all the other players trying to make a name for thereself NC will be good if they feed Davis needs at least 18 shots per game.0 - Posted on: Sun, 11/22/2009 - 12:05pm #232177

Meditated StatesParticipantIn college never get the ball enough becasue the guards are trying to go to the league and shooting 3’s all the time. The closer three point line allows guys to help quicker so they have less room to operate. Davis will be fine, but he needs more touches.

quincey hodgesfirst of all qhaynes do i say get off a players nuts when you constantly talk about how good a player is?…seems if some one makes a bunch of post about how good a player is then its cool but when someone doesn’t ride his bandwagon then hes a hater or on his nuts….second all you have to do is don’t read and dont respond…how easy is that?..thats no different then saying how bad some song is but you keep listening to it over and over again. third i never said favors wasn’t good or doesn’t have more potential then gani just said right now gani is the number one option which is a fact. fourth i’ve said over an dover that favors will be a good player not a dominate player and so far that’s exactly what hes been. if anyone is on peoples nuts is you qhaynes because i cant count how many times you take time out to write about each freshmans ranking or life story. And yes each game im gonna make post . just like i did after each bucks game yet no one complained then because i was saying something good about jennings. if you gonna complain then you might wanna make sure you have never made a couple post about a player or players when they play well. i guess its all good when you praise a guy all the time though huh

gregoden08ParticipantFor big men to stay out of foul trouble early on…Besides that, he’s been playing great. Like some said, he doesn’t force anything and he does have good footwork. He also has an extremely long wingspan which will help him at the next level. His stock hasn’t gone down. If anything it’s gone up because Ed Davis was supposed to contend with Favors for the first PF taken in the draft, and as a UNC fan I have to say Ed Davis has just looked average…Still plenty of time to prove me wrong Davis. Can’t wait till GT plays UNC.

quincey hodgesthey both pretty much have done a lil bit of the same thing..favors scores about a point more davis rebounds more and blks more shots. davis offense is still pretty raw like favors but favors is more advance there where davis is more advanced on defense. its good that both are player next to better post players that help take alot of pressure off them..both will still get drafted high since the nba drafts alot of young guys off what they potential will do. gonna love seeing when unc plays gt .no more cupcake teams then

butidonthavemoneyCan’t you just drop the “Derrick Favors isn’t dominate. I’m right, you’re wrong.” bit?

gregoden08ParticipantDude, Favors was a top-5 recruit and is going to be a lotto pick whenever he decides to come out. We can hype him up if we want to…Have you ever heard of high expectations?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 11/22/2009 - 3:38pm #232261

gregoden08ParticipantIf Favors corrects his early foul trouble issues, he will have huge numbers. Ala Greg Oden.

sheltwon3Participantthis is a place where people can share stuff unpopular and popular. What is really up. It aint a big deal. People control your emotions please. I dont mind hearing about every game as long as stats are here regardless of opinions. I don’t get a chance to watch that many college b ball games so it is cool with me.
