basically, the grizz traded a future 2nd round pick to the nuggets for a 2010 1st round pick. it looks protected and the details i’m sure are lottery protected…but i strongly doubt denver will be in the lottery next year.
memphis now owns the rights to their own 2010 pick, the lakers 2010 first round pick, and the nuggets first round pick.

llperezDo you think they have a chance at the playoffs this year?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 12:17pm #197455

d-grizzlyParticipantno i don’t. i’d love to see them there sir. but they’re just too young. i see it in 2011-2012 for sure. by then, they will have done the right move getting a young PF and some players out of the free agency next summer.

d-grizzlyParticipantplus the grizz got hunter out of the trade with cash considerations as well. this was in effort to free up cap space for denver.

gatorheelsParticipantYeah I don’t see Memphis making the playoffs either. Having 3 first round picks in the 2010 draft is huge.

d-grizzlyParticipantshould the grizz try and trade for the best PF or johnny wall in the draft? <— that's 1 idea.
another, just keep the picks. this draft is starting to look pretty nice each day that goes by.

llperezI think Randolph will do enough to keep them competitive, but he is not gonna push them into the playoffs. The keys to this season will be the development of Mayo and Gay as leaders and finding out if Conley and Thabeet are gonna be starters, or if they made mistakes drafting them. Future is bright though as long as the fans start showing up.

MagikKnickParticipantMemphis has a nice young core with Young, Thabeet, Conley, Mayo, and Gay, plus they just added Williams who should be a pretty good role player
And now they got 3 young prospects expecting to come in for 2010…thats big

d-grizzlyParticipanti still think gasol has a bright future. a lotta people forget about this guy. personally, if they can trade some of those picks and conely for johny wall..i think they should do it.

jacksonSParticipantgatorheels for president
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 12:32pm #197467

gatorheelsParticipantdgrizzly- I agree….they need to get John Wall. There are a lot of good PFs in that draft too which is good news for the Grizzlies.
jacksonS- haha thanks man

d-grizzlyParticipantwith it loaded at the 4…i wish it had been like that for the 09 draft…..memphis could’ve have a complete starting lineup with young talent that could have had valuable time to gel. instead they bring in randolph to heal the wound temporarily.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 12:44pm #197471
QHaynes20It’s a nice move but the key is too keep Rudy Gay. If you lose Rudy Gay, then adding this pick would pretty much be a wash….
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 12:46pm #197473

d-grizzlyParticipantthey should be able to keep gay. i really do see mayo/gay and whoever this PF of the 2010 draft is to be the future.
that or unless they get wall… then it’s wall/mayo/gay for the future.

QHaynes20I think Memphis is in a good spot, you can add a PF in the early 1st round and maybe add Kalin Lucas or Sherron Collins later

jeff416ParticipantI dont think Memphis will make the playoffs but I think they will pick in the 10-14 range and next years draft is loaded so they should be able to get a good player there. If they did draft there I would like to see them draft Avery Bradly or a good pf depends on whos there.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 2:03pm #197516

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantbut it would be kinda funny and weird to have last names of wall/mayo/gay. To me this team has a lot of good starting players but a lack of good role players.

SpencerIsHawesomeWell isn’t one of the picks the Lakers? That is basically an early 2nd.. will be one of the last 2 in the first probably. The other is Nuggets, probably lottery protected, who i figure will draft around 23-25. There own pick should be around 8-10 i’d say so.. we’ll say 9th, 24th,30th picks. If they draft good then they could get 1 stud and 2 role players.. Those late picks are always tricky though..

KevinDurantRocksParticipantBut they have to be smart in which way they use those picks
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 4:47pm #197619
grizz32ParticipantI like maybe Greg Monroe or Demarcus Cousins for PF of the future. Maybe a guy like Avery Bradley and Xavier Henry with the other picks

BasketballGuru24ParticipantThis draft is deep….. 3 picks will be great, and will make them a better.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 5:04pm #197629

MagikKnickParticipantI like how everyone says this draft is so deep, nobody else thinks its to early to predict the strength of this draft?
Some of you must be forgetting that guys like Monroe, Aldrich, Aminu, Warren, and even Ed Davis were suppose to go pretty high in the 2009 NBA Draft, but they all chose to stay in school
I really do doubt they’ll stay again this year, but you never know who will decide to return to school, or even who’ll be a disappointment once the pressure turns to them
I do believe and agree that this draft will be very strong, but im just saying its a bit too early..
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 6:08pm #197667

sheltwon3ParticipantMemphis is sitting pretty right now and really only need to fill two position so getting 3 first rounders in a draft with a lot of pro prospects is nice. Also in 3 years Thabeet should be a serviceable center. Things are looking good for them. I just hope they do not screw it up. On the down side to this. LA pick will be really low and is Denver. Denver and LA picks would be better served as early first rounders than actually picks which is why it is not as great to have them if you cant move them to teams not in the draft trying to grab someone. Also they should right a nice big man and I think the Conley Williams combo at the point should be solid enough for me to say they really only need to fill one position.

the barronParticipantThe Nuggets and Lakers pick are gonna be in the twenties more than likely and well it all depends on where the Grizz end up in the lottery. If they get pick number 1 or 2 than John Wall is a must. This team needs a point guard and IMO Mike Conley is a decent backup in the league not the guy to take this team to the next level. If Memphis ends up with a pick in the 3-10 range than they can pick up Willie Warren. As for there other late two first round picks they should go PF with both or PF or backup SG/SF. Imagine if they paired Varnardo of Mississippi St. with Thabeet. They won’t get much offense from them but they will lead the league in block shots.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 6:46pm #197687
QHaynes20Willie Warren is not a PG. If I was Memphis, if i get a 3-10 pick…I have to look at Kemba Walker
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 7:19pm #197697
KevinDurantRocksParticipantGet John Wall
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 7:25pm #197700
grizz32ParticipantIm not stupid so Im not going to say I dont want Wall on the Grizzlies. I am okay with Conley though. He still has hope. We need a PF of the future
