starpyParticipantI was reading the Hang Time Blog post on Oden and it got me thinking, what team should pick up Oden if Portland lets him go?
Personally, I think Boston should pick him up. He is a dominant shot blocker, pretty good rebounder, and capable low post scorer. This is all without playing alot and developing alot of polish. If someone can coach him on some post offense he could really help Boston alot. Also once the big three retire, a new nucleus of Rondo, Green, and Oden would be a pretty solid group to build around. Oden should be able to be gotten on the cheap as he hasnt done anything lately and doesnt seem like the kinda guy who is all about money.
Other teams I would love to see him on cuz im a fan of the teams, but there just is now way would be Detroit or Toronto. Oden and Monroe would be a a pretty sweet combo I think. With Toronto he would just make them an awesome up tempo squad. With Derozan, Davis, Oden, and whomever they draft this year. Id love to see it, but lets be real thats just never gonna happen.
Any thoughts on who you would like to, or believe he would go to?

sheltwon3ParticipantHow could Boston get him and other teams that are in the same position not have a shot.

Anton123ParticipantMaybe a team like Charlotte will be willing to give him money. Kwame really is no answer at C anyway

sammybuckeye13ParticipantI think he’d be perfect for the 6ers. That team is playing amazing and their only weak spot is at center where Hawes is def not the long term answer. He’d be a great anchor for that defense.

ChrischiParticipantI don’t see him going to a contender. I think a bad/average team will overpay him.

The lake show2Maybe he should get healthy first. He hasn’t proven he can last even half a season yet

bobbybParticipantHere is the better question what money will he get. Obviously almost any team will take a chance on him if there is a team that will take a chance on Kwame and Darko. How much will he fetch?

The lake show2Now thats gonna be interesting. You best believe teams are gonna do a top to bottom indepth physical

HotSnotParticipantThere is ZERO chance Oden ever gets waived. If Portland was ever stupid enough to let him go, I think every team in the NBA would want to take a stab at him. If Portland wanted to trade him teams might talk long and hard about the injury history (often fluke injuries) but inevitably… I think every team would put forth a trade proposal. He is too rare not to take a chance.
Oden is finally getting off the "bigger is better" bandwagon. He is already naturally big and there’s no reason for him to be the 300-325 pound goliath he was trying to turn himself into post injury. He’s going to go back to his svelt days and will pickup his speed and agility again. He should be able to make it up and down the court more effortlessly and pickup far fewer fouls. I can’t wait to see it. He’s still just a pup at 23. Wes Johnson just got drafted at 23.

HitsterParticipantPortland have to offer him a deal of $8.8 million next year, I wonder if Oden would accept this and then look to play a solid season and become an unrestricted FA in 2012. He does not have to accept the Portland offer but that offer would make him a restricted FA and it could depend what Portland decides to offer him afterwards or what offers he gets from other teams
Portland would probably put team options in the deal or guarantees that he plays so many games to earn the full amount maybe for the next year but I think next year has to be fully guaranteed otherwise Portland could say X amount down then X per game to take it up to $8.8 million.
I agrww that Detroit,Toronto and Philly as mentioned by previous posters would be good locations for Greg to consider if he went outside Portland. I’d throw in Atlanta as I could see Marvin Williams being attractive to Portland as Coach MacMillan likes those type of solid players and with Greg at 5 then Horford goes to 4 perhaps. A total wildcard could be the Spurs, with McDyess turning 37 this autumn and Tim Duncan reaching 35 soon, their frontcourt will need extra depth soon and Oden might be a nice complimentary option alongside Splitter, Blair and Bonner but that would only be if he went for MLE perhaps.

CardiacKidParticipantI seen him in Rip City for next year probably return to full health by December/January then by the trade deadline he either gets moved for valuable assets or plays out the year and becomes an UFA then looks for a long term deal

mj23mj23besteverParticipantif big if portland doesnt keep him its on oden if he wants to take more money from a bad team or go play for a contender he would be such a tremendous fit in philly couldnt see him going to toronto but hed be a great fit allowing bargs to slide to the 4 if hed play for less money boston miama and the spurs should be all over him

kobyzParticipantHouston and Portland should replace theirs centers with each other, maybe somehow it will change the lack of them!
