ropeParticipantMonroe is scoring and rebounding a bit better this year, but he has ZERO blocked shots through 7 games. The guy is 6′ 11". How is that even possible?

DondiJohnParticipantHe doesn’t jump high enough. Joke, He can get blocks with great timing and anticipation. Problem is Greg will never be a good defensive player outside of rebounding. Also, he has JSmith and Drummond going Pogo Sticks on opponents shots

King CaluchaParticipantI don’t think zero blocked shots make him a bad defender. He’s really helpless defending both pick and roll and low post.

GBeeParticipantpnr he’s not great but he’s a solid post defender, mainly because he’s strong, has good length, stays down and doesn’t bite on fakes.
he’s still a better defender than drummond. he was last year too, which isn’t saying much since drummond is a bad defender, but he’s still better.

Mysterion110ParticipantDrummond a bad defender? He had a very respectable 3.5 defensive win shares last year, and leading the league in defensive rebounding percentage makes up for some mishaps he may have.

OhCanada-ParticipantWatch the games not the boxscores. Monroe is still the best player on this Pistons team which is the worst case scenerio for the Pistons financially. They tried having him come off the bench but couldnt because his presence is needed against the starters and more qaulity players. They tried to weasel him into a cheaper contract but he and his agent were patient. Now they cant even limit his minutea like they want to because he is their best chance of winning games and hes slowly playing himself into a max contract. Bad job by Pistons management.

ropeParticipantThis is one of the reasons I could never fathom the deal for Josh Smith. Monroe was and is a good match next to Drummond.

GBeeParticipantyeah, he’s bad. -1.42 dRAPM (or by any advanced defensive metric he’s bad) last year. he gets outworked, out-positioned, faked out of his shoes, he’s late on rotations, picks up cheap fouls, poor awareness, doesn’t talk on D. both in man and help situations he’s not good. for such an athletic behemoth he’s not imposing defensively at all.

Mad MaxParticipantTrue low post scorer, who can pass and run an offense through and cleans the boards. He’s a walking double double machine, strong post defender, not a help side shot blocker (which can be overrated) and doesn’t rotate well, still regardless he’s a top 10 big guy, and people are going to throw money at him next summer. Good job Detroit, you’re wasting away your best player; might as well trade him now because he ain’t coming back to this joke of a franchise.

tuck243Participanthe’s the best offensive player on the team… He can get a good shot on a consistent basis, so they have to keep him in the starting line up… Especially with a team that can’t score easy baskets… The issue with the Pistons is Josh Smith… He can’t shoot, but they need his defense which Greg (or Dre truthfully)doesn’t bring…
Greg isn’t a max player and shouldn’t be paid like one… This team isn’t built correctly and seriously need to move someone soon. Joe Dumars for all the love he got for the Billups & Co. championship, really made some dumb a$$ moves… From picking Darko to signing Ben Gordon & Charlie V to big contracts… Then he goes and sign 2 of the worst inefficient dudes at their position in Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith… The Pistons need to figure out which direction they want to go and find out who they want to build around… See if they can get rid of Josh Smith for a hamburger and fries… Hopefully the Sixers will take him with a pick…

HitsterParticipantDrummond and Smith in particular are prolific blockers but it is strange for a guy averaging 11rpg this season not to have one block yet. Is he playing further away from the basket on defence I wonder as Drummond anchors the team and Smith’s defence is well known.
The issue with Detroit is that Smith needs to play PF but that is also Monroe’s role and using Smith at SF highlights his poor 3 point game.
I doubt Philly take on Smith, I wonder if a team like the Knicks might make a move for someone like him and Houston is always mentioned for Smith given his D12 links.
Monroe isn’t a superstar but he is a skilled 24 year old big man who can give you good scoring and he is a very durable player having missed very few career games so far. With guys who aren’t all stars getting $15 million odd a season this summer, I’m sure Monroe will get sumilar type offers next summer if he keeps his consistent form up.

Lotto StudParticipantI’m still waiting on Monroe to tap into his inner Timmy Duncan. Only if he would realize he’s the left-handed version of The Fundamental.
