I have BOTH Giannis as well as Jabari Parker (as well as Andrew Wiggins) on my fantasy team.  Hopefully this works out.  The Bucks are playing with house money this year.  Play the young guys, then draft another top player next June.

I love it. You dont have to be a natural, pass first point to run the position. You just have to be able to bring the ball up, initiate the offense, and make the right decision. He has shown flashes of being a very smart, gifted play maker. Will this last? Probably not. Just like Orlando experimenting with Dipo at the point as well. But it will give him more experience with running the offense and making plays, while giving guys like Knight the freedom to get open for shots, which is what he is better at anyway.

Yeah, it makes sense for them to give him reps as the PG in games that don’t matter, summer league and preseason. That way he will have more experience bringing the ball up when the regular season starts. I don’t see him playing the PG much then. He will bring it up some, but he will most likely play with another PG while bringing it up, I think he fits best playing alongside Knight, that way knight can focus on scoring while the greek freak runs the offense. He isn’t the scorer or shooter yet, but he can run the offense.

For those that missed the pre-season game against Chicago, Giannis actually looked pretty good running the point.  The offense seemed a lot more fluid with him running the show than it was with Knight.

Regardless of the outcome, it will be exciting to see how he handles this.  He and Jabari are the key to the Bucks future.

dont know why everyone seems surprised..he’s their best passer,he has 2 hall of fame pgs as his mentors( coach kidd and gary payton have been working with him in training camp).

and wasnt point guard the position he was playing overseas when scouts first fell in love with him?

its going to be very entertaining watching the match up nightmares they might cause when they play parker and a 4 guard lineup…..

Why not give it a go and see if he has it in him? Knight’s not a bad player, but he’s more of a combo without the size to really play the two. Having Giannis, who can guard 2-3, maybe 4, just gives the Bucks that much more freedom with their lineups.

Might be good for ball movement, and Knight can handle the opposing PG on defense while playing the SG on offense. The freak is so damn long, no opposing coach would match their PG on him, so Knight won’t have to worry about them leaving a 6’6” shooting guard on him.

What I wonder is how would he handle full court pressure from another point guard?  Playing him with Knight would help this.  But I imagine every opposing team would pick him up full court every time if he were playing PG in the traditional sense.  Also will he be able to exploit the mismatch on the other end?  Can he routinely score from the post to make teams pay for playing someone smaller on him?

While I think he’s capable, at this point in his development I don’t see it being a huge success.  He doesn’t really have the offensive game to punish people for the mismatch.  Thus I don’t really see the benefit in it.

Defensively I believe he can guard 1 – 4, so there is nothing lost there.  If it’s a move to get their best players on the floor it makes sense.  Meaning Giannia and Jabari are both best suited for the 3.  To get them on the floor a lot will take someone playing out of position.  Giannis at the 1 or Jabari at a small 4 seem like the most likely scenarios.

I agree: it’s the best way to get their best players on the floor. Ideally, he and Parker are 3’s and I really think Parker cannot handle the 4. At all. I guess that puts Gianni’s at the 2 or 4. His jumper needs to be a lot better to be a 2 and he needs a couple years of muscle to be a 4.

It’s nice  that they have so many great young players and just having to deal with how the puzzle pieces fit. They’ll get another lottery pick this year, maybe a PG. Mudiay? Rozier? In the mean time, they’re not going to playoffs, so giving Giannis the keys can only help his development. I applaud them for not being boring.

How he handles pressure will definitely be something to keep an eye on, but he hasn’t really had an issue with getting ripped by anyone yet. He’s a good ball-handler. Where he makes his mistakes is that he sometimes gets sloppy with his footwork and will travel when he’s in his triple threat and stuff like that.

Well… first off he used to play PG in Greece.

He’s so tall and long, that it would be a waste to make him defend the opposing PG. Offensively, he can pass the rock effectively and he has good vision. If he can be a primary ball handler, then positions don’t really matter. Other teams would have to find a solution for such a tall playmaker.

With his potential to be extremely versatile, might as well try him around different spots when it doesn’t count for anything. This is why I love the preseason.

and his shotty PG play in summer league, I’ll say it’s time to stop trying to play him as a guard…  Especially a PG…  He might blossom into a Point Forward, but players like Lamar Odom were further along with his skill set at this age…   Is Giannis talented? Yes, but I think everyone’s hopes and dreams for him is simply too much.  On this site, Giannis is the most overrated player in years.  It’s not even close.
