Moon RiverParticipantLove him, hate him or somewhere in between, you absolutely have to respect Kobe Bryant.
Via twitter from Deadspin and citing SportsCenter, because of how Kobe negotiated his last Laker contract, he gets a bulk payment today in the amount of $24.4 Million.
Happy November 1st to you Mamba.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantSome People have ALL THE LUCK!! Thats 80% of his 30 Million Dollar salary…The rest will be spread throughtout the year..
Just think ,that in 1979 Jerry Buss Paid only 67 million to Buy the team!!

Moon RiverParticipantMade a very good investment. So far, I don’t like the way the kids are handling the LakeShow. But next summer will be their chance to show what the plan is, if they have one.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIt’s going to be interesting to see what type of contract will he receive next summer….If he is really commited to tying or passing Jordan’s 6 titles and making the Lakers contenders again..He’s going to have to take substantial paycut so they can bring in some top flight free agents…..

M.GarveyParticipantTo the People who think Kobe overrated don’t know business. lakers have a huge tv contract (due in part to Kobe). He’s an ambassador for the team and every time he’s mentioned it’s “Los Angeles guard” Kobe – so that’s marketing. Oh and he’s the main reason they got playoff revenues last season. Good for Kobe. Hope he comes back and attempts less 3s and kicks ass.

Moon RiverParticipantAgree 100% RUDEBOY on this offseason. Kobe has to take a pay cut but how big? And, how comfortable will he be with taking a pay cut and the Lakers fail to land LeBron/Melo or any other big name free agents? Kobe is as smart as he is shrewd. I bet he waits to see what the Lakers do and than makes his decision with the Lakers. If they don’t land the free agents it takes to get another ring or two, he bolts to where he can win. Not many runs left in the Mamba.
How good would Kobe look with the Bulls? Amnesty Boozer, bring over Mirotic, sign Kobe and re-sign Deng. I am sure Deng would stay and take a paycut to play with Kobe. Kobe to the Bulls did almost happen the last time his contract was up and how fitting would it be to have Kobe finish as a Bull with all of the MJ comparisons.
And this is why the free agent situation with the NBA is great. Speculation like this could possibly happen.

goldie92689ParticipantHe needs to do more than take a pay cut. He needs to do a better job of playing with great talent.

Moon RiverParticipantI am a glass half full guy, but don’t you think Kobe knows he is at the end and has to defer to the younger talent the Lakers, hopefully, bring in? It remains to be seen, but I really do think he is chasing titles and the time for that is running out.

M.GarveyParticipantIf he got capital gains it would be 20-24%. Guess that’s the secret to super wealth, there’s a reason a guy like Kobe could go broke. Agent lawyer 10%, taxes 50-55%. That leaves 40-35%, some of these cats spend stupidly. Well it’s Better to have had than not at all – I see you Antoine walker.

M.GarveyParticipantSorry I meant to say if he were to earn the same money on the stock market he’d be taxed differently and keep more.

Forte IVParticipantWell you also have to take into account he makes about another 40-50 mil maybe even more from sponsors so he still probably makes around 30+ mil a year after taxes regardless.

RObin PadillaParticipantJim Buss is getting a lot of heat these past couple of years because of their roster… But IMO he had a plan… Remember he pulled off that CP3 trade and at the same time made cap room for Howard. David Stern veto’d the trade and that pretty much ruined everything… The Lakers will make noise in free agency for sure…
