kaceyParticipantOrlando has matched the Maverick’s offer.
While I don’t think Gortat was going to be anything special for the Mavericks, he would definitely had been an upgrade over Dampier and Hollins. I’m sure Cuban has a back up plan and we will be hearing some names within the next couple of days. There are still plenty of quality big men available, some that may take less money than what was offered to Gortat.

Knicksboy34ParticipantLike the signing hate the money
This man average 3 ppg and you give him 33 mil? Stupid

ckowalskiParticipanthe’s a great backup but I would have liked to see him go to a team where he could get more minutes. He plays well when he gets PT though.

ckowalskiParticipantBut more importantly didn’t the magic sign Bass to an offer sheet? Does Cuban match that offer now or let Bass go and chase another FA center with the money?

kaceyParticipantHe was an unrestricted free agent, so Bass is gone.

ckowalskiParticipantOh, I thought he was restricted, my bad.

Knicksboy34ParticipantYes, he is a great Backup but not for 33 mil

ckowalskiParticipantThe midlevel is reasonable for him. He will be overpaid but not ridiculously. Otis Smith made a great point by saying he does play behind their best player. It’s not as bad as Varejao’s deal but it could be worse. At least they aren’t giving $9 million per season to a backup like Portland seems determined to do with Millsap.

sheltwon3ParticipantUtah will match that deal. Everyone knows that. Portland is probably doing this to force a trade to happen when Utah tries to get rid of Boozer.

doubledribblerParticipantSo I am kind of confused. I think Gortat was a good gamble for the Mavericks, especially for the money. I am surprised Orlando would pay this much for a guy that is barely going to get on the floor. There are plenty of backups that can come in for much cheaper and play spot duty behind Dwight. What they really needed was a guy that could play behind Dwight as well as provide minutes at power forward. Someone who could consistently hit a 15 foot shot.
Since Orlando decided to actually spend wouldn’t they have been better off just giving Hedo a couple extra million? At the very least Orlando would still have 4 excellent shooters surrounding Howard. Nelson, Carter, Hedo, Rashard…that’s a nice group around him, plus I think they could have still signed Bass as they have already done.

gatorheelsParticipantThis is actually great new for Dallas…they can get somebody better now like Glen Davis
This does make the Magic better but they did overpay.

gatorheelsParticipantThe Magic are loaded I have to admit. They are clearly better than Cleveland now. I think they are even better than Boston now too. They look like the best team in the East.
I agree they should pickup a free agent PG for a bargain even if Anthony Johnson stays. I’m not sure what his future is. He isn’t a bad backup but not good either.
