 What is his market value, as far as trades are concerned? I ask because I think that there is a good chance that he (or Pekovic) gets traded on draft night, in an attempt to improve the Wolves.

Personally, I love the guy and had him (and Dennis Schroder) as my sleepers in last years draft. Unfortunately for Gorgui, he was buried on the bench behind a bonafide starter and by a coach (Rick Adelman) who has usually be reluctant to play rookies/young players consistently (see Hedo Turkoglu, Gerald Wallace, etc., with the Kings). Dieng’s situation reminds me a lot of Marcin Gortat’s with the Magic, which is ironic because their games are similar except for the fact that Dieng is a much better perimeter shooter and passer at this stage of their careers.

I would say that his market value is probably pretty high, but I don’t think you trade either. Pek won’t draw a lot because of his contract and he can’t stay healthy. Why would you trade Dieng when he is better fit with Kevin Love and you need a quality backup if Pek continues to miss 20+ games per year.

You move Dieng for the same reasons I alluded to earlier. The Wolves need to improve if they want to keep Kevin Love and Gorgui is one, of only a few assets that they have on their team. Yes, Gorgui is a better fit with Love but Pekovic’s value is at a relative low because of his contract and health. More importantly, Pekovic is still the better player at this point so you want to make sure to stay as competitive as possible (which would involve keeping him). After all, the Wolves problem was not their starting lineup; it was their lack of depth on the bench.

With Adelman out though, I see that team having many more problems than they did this year. Because of that,  I think that they should just face facts and move Love to start their rebuilding process.

I guess I can’t think of a target to try to get with Dieng. My thought was start Dieng and use Pek off their bench because they desperately need offense off the bench. So feed Pek as much as they can against the other teams bench. Plus that allows the Wolves to baby Pek and hopefully keep him healthy through the full year.

I watched a lot of Wolves games and I think Adelman was problem #1. He used hockey line shifts and the bench got destroyed every time. Their defense was terrible. JJ Barea should not be playing and Adelman leaned on him like crazy. Everyone wants to overreact to this year. A couple tweaks could produce a Portland type start to next year and quiet things. As a Timberwolves fan I don’t want to jump into rebuild #10 since Garnett left.

Who would be Rubio’s backup if not Barea. I love Shved’s game but don’t think he can consistently be a primary ball handler. Quite honestly, I don’t know why the Wolves’s bench sucked so bad. You guys have actual talent there, hockey line shifts or not. In any case, it’s hard for me to believe that Rick Adelman, a hell of fame coach, that had all his previous teams overachieve, was the problem in Minnesota.

As for Love, I’m not sure if winning alone is what will drive him to leave the Wolves. Part of me thinks that he wants a higher profile like Melo did when he demanded a trade from a team that made the Western Conference Finals 2 years before and came close to winning.

JJ fancies himself a scorer. Him and Rubio both shot 38%, just brutal.   If Love truly wants to leave I get it, you try to get the Lakers pick. But everyone assumes he is angling to leave and I think a better start would make it tough to walk away from.

You can believe that Adelman is the problem or not, but anyone who watched a lot of games agrees he drove them crazy. Shabazz played really well, a lot better than I thought, but Adelman still buried him on the bench even when the playoffs were out of reach.

His Trade Value is a pick in the 20 range.

If combined with their 13th pick, I think you could move up in the draft to #7 or lower.
