Why is no one talking about his recent performance against KD?

    37 or 11 th 7 a etc….

I’ve said numerous times his trajectory is on par with Paul Georges was last season.

The fact that he scored the final 17 points for UT cannot be ignored. That is superstar stuff.

He typically surges after December per his career.

So does he have PG potential if he continues tondo this or no?

From the start of the season I felt Hayward had to get his legs under him because with him playing this much time and being the number one option it takes being in a different kind of game shape and takes a little bit of getting time to get in game shape.  He had his shooting struggles but has now seem to hit his stride.  The question is can he be conistent with his shooting?  I think if he keeps that same confidence he has been playing with recently he should have no problems being more consistent.  Do i see 37 points every night of course not but he is showing he the jazz they should have signed him.  It might cost them this offseason.  I watch a lot of Jazz games and he is easily their best player.  I think he is a stud and will only continue to get better especially now that burke is back in the lineup and helps give him more room to work.  I also think he is as good offensively as George just a little different and while Hayward is a decent defender himself does not have the tools that geoge has.  Either way i will continue to enjoy watching him play and hope he stays with the jazz for years to come.

I said it before the season started

I stated he would average 20-5-5 and he’s currently averaging 17-5-5.  If he gets his shooting %s up, he could very well average 20 points.

He’s worth the 10+ mil someone is going to give him, and would rather have him instead of Jeff Green on the Celtics, just to put how good I think he is into perspective. Hayward has an incredible basketball IQ, and when you combine that with his unselfishness, physical attributes, and shooting stroke, you are left with a very solid player.

I don’t think he is going to be on the level that Paul George is currently teatering on, but can see him leveling out as a Manu Ginobili type of talent, but maybe without the killer instinct that Manu had earlier in his career. Like Ginobili, Hayward is a good passer for his position, can handle the rock a little, pass well, and is a very good three point shooter, even if his stats this year don’t reflect that. I also think he’s an under rated defender, and plays decent man to man D, and good team defense. Overall Gordon is just a baller, plain and simple, and I love those type of players.

I don’t think Hayward is a first option type player, but he could easily be the second option on a championship team when he reaches his prime. I think he’s going to get PAID this summer, and I just hope he goes to a team that is in a position to succeed, because I would really like to see what he could do on a team that has better players than what the Jazz have now.

that comment is just stupid and ignorant. True they started the season terribly was that Hayward’s fault? absolutely not. That was because we didn’t have an NBA caliber point guard on the roster. We had a has been and chucker as our main pg’s. to further illustrate my point our first win came because of a d-league call up who didn’t know the offense played pg better than Lucas and Tinsley had up to that point and they knew the offense. Then Trey Burke came back and since he was made the starter the jazz have been playing .500 basketball. Favors has been steady all season. All the talk of Favors and Kanter cant play together don’t hold water they seemed to do ok against OKC the other night and also when Kanter was starting Burke wasn’t and when he got moved to the bench Trey Burke was starting, yet another stroke of Corbin’s brilliance (but that is a whole other topic, oh, and sarcasm was implied). Alec Burks is looking like a legit rotation guy would like to see him in a starters role. Marvin Williams has actually surprised me I hope the jazz resign him. I wish the Jazz would give Rush more of an opportunity to play. The only player I am not feeling is Richard Jefferson and dang you Chicago I was really hoping the Jazz could have got a Bynum for Jefferson trade done and got that minute stealing washed up has been out of here and in the same move got rid of Corbins favorite vet

The only ignorant and stupid person here is you, as I clearly stated that I would ratehr watch him play with BETTER players. No where in my post do I insult the Jazz or any one player on that team. I obviously follow this team, maybe not as much as you, but my opinion still holds weight. Hayward would be a great complimentary piece for a contender, and right now he’s on a rebuilding team. That’s fine, but I want to watch him play in games that actually matter.

If the Jazz had game changing players they wouldn’t be 12-25, and please don’t blame everything on Corbin, the Jazz just aren’t ready to take that next step. If you feel like that’s an insult to the Jazz, than keep those comments to yourself because at the end of the day, Hayward and Favors are the only players on that team who are ready to play at a high level. Everyone else is still learning the game (Kanter and Burks) or a rookie (Trey and Rudy), so please give me a break.

Hayward scored 37 points on only 16 shots last night. He averaged 2.31 points per shot (PPS). Thus, when he sank a 2-pointer near the end of the game it caused his PPS average for the game to go down. To put this into perspective, if Hayward had shot as many times as KD did last night (34), but with Hayward’s efficiency, he would have scored 79 points (KD scored 48).

That said, while I loved this game and Hayward’s incredible play, no one can be that good consistently. If he maintained that level of play he would easily become the NBA’s top player overnight. He is a very good player, but last night he was in a zone that only happens once in a blue moon. However, I still expect his play to go up substantially for the rest of the season (from his early averages). For some reason he’s simply played at a higher level after December each year he’s been in the NBA.

I  could not justify comparing Haywards "ascent" to Georges. Hes is the first option on an awful team which inlates his stats. Sure, he had an amazing game yesterday, but he is nowhere near how George was last year (granted we arent even halfway through the season). Take a look at Haywards PER, its not pretty…

Hayward’s PER is better this season than Paul George’s was last year.  You can critique him for having a merely slightly above average PER, but then you would have to critque George, too.  I don’t think Hayward is going to have a leap like George had this season, because that happens infrequently, but he is having a very comparable season to that George had last year.

To say Hayward is nowhere near where George was last season is silly and reeks of hindsight.  Last year, Paul George averaged 17 ppg on 41% shooting with a lot of TOs.  He was better defensively than Hayward, but Hayward is having a better offensive season than George had last season.

Statistically, Gordon Hayward has been just as good this season as Paul George was last season. I actually think that Hayward is a better ball handler and passer. The big difference really is that Paul George was on a great team.

Defensively, Hayward isn’t on George’s level. He doesn’t have the reach, length, foot speed or just lateral quickness. Hayward competes hard and is feisty defendeer, but he’s not on George’s level. George is an elite level defender. He can defend Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, James Harden or Carmelo Anthony… Just pick. I think George needs to get stronger so guys don’t try to bully ball him, but he’s definitely a top five defender in the entire league already.

Does Hayward have George’s upside? I don’t think he does, but I didn’t think George could be this good either to be honest. George’s improvement, especially his confidence/aggressiveness at the offensive end, has been unreal to me. The improvement he’s made with his ball handling, ability to create for himself off the dribble and his mid-range game has been unbelievable. There are only a few players in the entire NBA that’d I’d take over George without even thinking about it. LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul. I think George is already the second best two way player in the game. I doubt Hayward can put himself in that type of company.

Hayward is better than most people think and with his work ethic and distain for losing he will only get better I think because of how badly the Jazz started the season lots of fans think they are terrible (they aren’t great but they’re not too bad) and since Trey Burke is in the starting lineup they are over 500 , I’m torn with how good the Jazz are playing, I want a top 3 pick in this draft but if the Jazz keep playing like they have been they will end up with a pick in the 7 to 10 range. That, I’m not happy with but at the same time developing a winning attitude and atmosphere is very important to the future. Favors is playing better than I thought he could on the offensive end, he is showing more potential in that area than I thought he had and in a year or two he will be tough. Kanter has struggled but he is sooo young and inexperienced and over the last 4 or so games he has played much better and should continue to improve. Trey Burke is showing he is a very good leader and winner, he isn’t afraid of the moment and as he improves and progresses the Jazz will do likewise. Threesome of Hayward, Favors and Trey are something to be happy about and if we can get a good pick this yr who knows. Like I said, I don’t like the fact the Jazz are winning as much as they are but I can’t fault it too much, IMO Favors will be a top 5 center within 3 yrs in not sooner, center is probably Favors best position, Kanter and Favors together is still an uncertainty, I hope it can work but only time will tell. The Jazz need a long athletic 3, a stretch 4, and a backup point guard or a star point guard that pushes Trey to the back up spot.

Somebody will offer him a max contract even though he is not quite at that kind of level as of now. I think the Boston Celtics will do everything they can to try and get him . He is still adjusting to being "The Man" in the NBA, but his steady improvement each and every year he has been in the league suggests that he can take it to the next level as well. It’s difficult to put up good shooting percentages when you are a wing player/point guard who is the leading scorer on a mediocre team. I would be very surprised if he signs a contract for "only" 10 million dollars per season…..

The only way the Celtics get him is with their 2014 first at the deadline, which is improbable.

Well they can recruit all they want but he is a restricted free agent and Utah doesn’t seemingly have a max player on the horizon to worry about paying. They probably match any offer.Otherwise would just need to sign overpaid veterans to meet the minimum salary requirements.
