NbanflguyParticipantI am a big fan of sports documentaries. It is just so cool to see into a players life and the behind the scenes stuff and other things of that nature that you do not get to see just by watching the game.
Some of my favorites that I have recently:
- ESPN 30 for 30’s The Fab 5
- Reggie Miller winning time
- ALOT of MJ ones
I am in the mood to watch one right now. Does anyone recomend any nba docs?

WrecklessParticipantYou watch the Allen Iverson 30 for 30? Thats a good one.

Scottoant93ParticipantI dont know if you seen it already But Once Brothers is a cool one to check out, its about the relationship of Drazen Petrovic and Vlade Divac. I havent seen it personally but i always wanted to check it out.

I’ve seen it. It is one of the best sports related films I’ve ever seen. If you don’t tear up at the end than there is something wrong with you.

WrecklessParticipantYeah somewhat. Just the trials and tribulations he had to go through. Showed some clips from college. But its a real good story. If your an AI fan you’ll love it.

I have not seen that one, but isnt it about a court case and not basketball?
@scott
I heard that is pretty good to, but havent seen it. I might check it out

mikeyvthedonParticipantAwesome movie about Yao Ming’s first year. Had a lot of respect for him as a player before it, WAY more after watching it. Highly recommend it, though all 30 for 30’s I have watched have been pretty awesome. "Once Brothers" about the relationship between Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic (among other former Yugoslavian players) was excellent as well. Besides that, Hoop Dreams is my favorite basketball film of all-time, though it is not really NBA (unless you count dreaming about making the NBA).
@McMing: That Herron one was crazy. Super intense, man. That guy was a crazy good player, just so insane to here about all of the things he was going through as a player.

MalcolmxParticipantAnyone saw Elevate about 3 africans kids coming to the US to play ball. One is a washington right now. 7-1 big man. suppose to be a first rounder anytime he leaves school.

Sounds pretty interesting, I will look it up. Thanks man
@McDunkin
I saw that a few months ago, forgot to add it to my list. Very good doc. Just another career that drugs destroyed. Looks like he is doing fantastic now though.
@MikeyV
I have heard some good reviews about Year of the Yao. Probally will watch it tonight

mikeyvthedonParticipantTell me what you think of it, you self +1’ing bastahd who due to his friendship with Y2G possibly has a spot in my Fantasy Football league next year. I love sports docs as well, though I truthfully just love any good film. Have not seen to many amazing things lately, but Year of the Yao is a boss movie in my opinion.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 4:29pm #640634

HaleParticipantI could be wrong, but I think he has gone a few days without the +1ing himself, I believe your rap set him straight. He’s a born again nbadraft.net poster. In regards to allowing him to join FF, do so at your own risk. He ALWAYS has a winning team that is a tough win to get.

B FreeParticipantIf you haven’t seen Hoop Dreams you need too, best one I’ve ever seen.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 4:49pm #640648

mikeyvthedonParticipantThat sounds like I guy I want in my league. My brother and I have run this ting. It was nice that my homie got the win (RIP Dan), but we are going to need a replacement. Definitely want things to be competitive, that is when they are the best.
PS: Are you prepared to be blown away by LaMichael James? Quite honestly, if that guy does not go 2nd round, incredible steal. WARRIOR.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 4:56pm #640650

HaleParticipantHe’ll probably go in the late second or early third. I think he could be a poor mans Jamaal Charles.

Just watched it. It was very good! Never was a big fan of Yao, but I have alot of respect for him now. His translator Colin seems like a very nice guy to.

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantThe Street Stops Here. It’s about Bob Hurley’s St. Anthony’s team. Very good. Hoop Dreams is also one favorite movies off all time. Once Brother’s is very good too.

torontoraptors10ParticipantWhat about the Fab 5 one? I thought that was pretty good
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 6:07pm #640690

NbanflguyParticipantI loved the Fab 5 one. One of my favorite documentaries of all time.
On second thought, I dont want to limit this to just basketball. Anyone know of any good Football or baseball documentaries to?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 6:34pm #640701

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantA good baseball one was the ESPN 30 for 30 about Steve Bartman. The guy at the Cubs Marlins game during the 2003 NLCS, who interfered with a questionable fair or foul ball. It ended up costing the Cubs a trip to the World Series.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 6:53pm #640712

NbanflguyParticipantYeah I watched that when it was first on ESPN. It was really really good. I felt so bad for Steve and the Cubs fans pissed me off. After that, they dont deserve a world series.

Future_Scouti almost cried LOL on the wade one that says his mom use to be a crack head and all that, then she stop and went to go see him in a game where he balled out.
also, the thomas robinson one where it talks about a BUNCH of family members dying in like a month and him saying the only thing he has left in life is his little sister. also VERY sad

mikeyvthedonParticipantGlad you liked "Year of the Yao". That dude was just a phenom, really wish he would have stayed healthy. The league would be much cooler if Yao Ming were still in it. Not to mention, while Dwight Howard was the more consistent of the two, Yao Ming OWNED him head-to-head.
As far as Fantasy Football goes, sounds like you would fit in well. Definitely up for the challenge. We have been doing this league for three years, I won the first one, my brother won the second one and my friend, Dan won the third one. I will say, when my brother won, I was controlling his team because he decided he did not care.
This year, he decided to actually care and did really well again. But, my friend Dan unfortunately passed away in October. I controlled his team and he won what we are calling the first annual Dan Steinberg Fantasy Football Trophy. During the finals, he came back from a huge first week deficit to my brother.
It was really fitting and I am glad that he won. I even named my team "I Hope Dan Wins", but kept everything competitive because I know Dan definitely was. I beat Y2G to make the play-offs, but he was a great addition to the league and I definitely want him to be in it again. Since he vouches for you being awesome at Fantasy Football, I would be down with you joining up as well.

omphalosParticipantA few that haven’t already been mentioned;
– The Guru of Go, which tells the story of Hank Gathers and his coach Paul Westhead.
– Without Bias, which takes a look at the life and death of one of the biggest "what if" cases in sports history.
– Gunnin’ for that #1 spot; a look at the players in the first Rucker Park Elite 24 game, including Beasley, Love, Bayless, Evans, Stephenson. Great insight into their character, cool to see where they were then and knowing how they panned out.
