OhCanada-ParticipantHe was making progress. The Knicks probably are not listening to him and making decisions out of his control. They should give him full control of all personnel decisions get a new PG and allow Melo and Porzingis to build chemistry.

mercyman25ParticipantIs built on the back of super stars. Would Phil have rings without Jordan, Pippen, Kobe, Shaq? He’s like Eric Spoelstra, riding on the coattails of greatness.

ballislyfe25ParticipantAnother way to look at it may be getting the very most out of the all-time talents they had. Jackson has 11 rings as a coach, across three decades. Spoelstra got the Heat to 4 straight finals with two titles to show for it and coached LeBron during the best seasons of his career. Personally, I thought his work with those Miami teams was quite impressive from an X’s and O’s standpoint.
While it may be fair to say that other coaches, based on their abilities as coaches, would have succeed with those title teams, guys like Phil, Pop, Spo, Riley, etc. won with the talent. We shouldn’t minimize their impact, vision, and tangible impact on the team because they had great players. Would Pop have his rings without Robinson, Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, and now Leonard?

ballislyfe25ParticipantPhil’s obviously cut from a different cloth but I would call his current stint with the Knicks a success so far.
I have no idea the last time the Knicks drafted in the top 5, presumably when they selected Patrick Ewing, but Phil nailed the pick and got Kristaps Porzingis. The fact that this team finally has a young potential All-Star is unbelievable and will keep them relevant as long as he is there. Sam Hinkie couldn’t (or has yet to) get one through three drafts, and, what, 5 first round picks? Homerun.
He has an eye for talent and a vision for how the pieces will fit together. He made no long term deals that will eat up valuable cap space and signed players to team friendly deals to see if this group could get into the playoffs, which they could not. Robin Lopez has outplayed expectations, is on a team friendly deal (a plus in terms of his trade value going foward) with the cap boom coming, and fits very well with Porzingis and anyone else they roll out at the 4. Afflalo fits well. Derrick Williams had his moments. Jerian Grant has potential. He found a rotation guard from the D-League in Galloway. They have the ability to chase top free agents and give Melo a shot at the title or, if those efforts fall short, press the reset button and build around Porzingis.
His biggest misstep so far has obviously been the Derek Fisher situation. He threw a bunch of James Dolan’s money at Fish, only to fire him through his second season seemingly out of nowhere. Not a Fisher apologist by any stretch but he was doing a better job than the year before. The Matt Barnes situation didn’t help. Rambis has Phil’s backing based on essentially nothing tangible. Looking a bit deeper, he could have sold Shumpert when his value was at its peak, potentially for a late 1st rounder.
TL;DR: Phil got Porzingis and that is nothing short of a miracle for the Knicks franchise. Set up well for the future going forward, with real avenues toward possible contention (cap space, Melo/Porzingis to sell to FAs) and rebuilding around Porzingis if all else fails. Need a good coach, believes he has one in Rambis.

circumlocution75ParticipantPorzingus is a very nice piece…… But they need to commit to a Full "Rebuild" ……..
They already have the Hardest Part ………. A potential Star in Porzingy…….. PG Grant has some potantial as a possible starter……
but they need more picks……
As far as the Lakers I think Jeannie Buss fires her brother Jimbo……… & brings back her man Phil to run the Lakers…….
